  1. You could use the EBody and its shape (perhaps adjusted to your taste) only for your mermaid outfit. For normal clothing, keep wearing your TMP body and usual shape. The TMP full-price body would be the same as the free one except that among other things it has alpha cuts which you can use to blank parts of the body. However lots of people here reckon it might not be a good idea to invest money in a TMP body as it seems to be no longer supported.
  2. If you have the full-price TMP body you should be able to remove your feet and set alpha cuts to blank your lower body using your body's HUD. However it appears the free TMP body does not allow that. You could instead get the free EBody, either slim or curvy or both, at their shop here, and use its HUD to blank your lower body. Then you could probably adjust your shape to get a better match with the tail.
  3. Sorry to derail the (now resolved) thread but ... When I saw the title "Reclaiming abandoned Sub" I immediately thought of Elon Musk's disastrous publicity stunt that the experts rubbished, as they were too busy actually saving the kids, but which he refused to take away "in case it might be needed again". I imagine it has been snapped up by some junk-collector and we will soon see it on EBay for a huge price!
  4. I do nearly all my shopping here

    Mrs, Sir

It sounds like all your problems are with SL websites, is that it? In that case, don't use Firestorm's built-in web browser, use an external browser (Firefox, Chrome, Safari, etc.). Lots of people have reported problems with the built-in browser and it's generally not recommended.
  6. I don't wear that body, but general principles of skin appliers would apply here. To get a good skin match between body and feet (and hands), there are two things you can do. You can try to manually match the skin colour on the feet using whatever facilities are supplied with the feet - I see Slink feet have quite a sophisticated system for doing that. Or use Omega skins, which would give you a much bigger choice of skins and perfect matching, though with the "unique " shape of a Sking body you might find the skin quite stretched in places; be sure to demo them first. To use Omega skins, you must make both body and feet Omega-compatible. For Slink feet, you make them compatible using the Omega installer for Slink, and for the Sking body, you attach the Omega relay for Sking each time you want to change skin.
  7. Yes it can be very confusing! The names you mentioned are makers of mesh bodies (except Catya which is a model of mesh head). Most makers of mesh bodies have only one or two models (usually covering only up to the neck), but most makers of heads have several models. Most people start with getting a mesh body, leaving thoughts about a head until later. The best place to start is the website Theresa mentioned, and http://strawberrysingh.com is good too. They list most popular mesh body models, with links to the shops where you can get demos. All the makers have in-world shops but only a few sell via the marketplace, and they all offer free demos that you can take home and try. So, get a demo of each body that seems interesting, wear the shape supplied with it, adjust the shape to your taste (some bodies are designed to look best with a slim shape, others with a curvy shape), play with the HUD, and you should be able to narrow the list down a lot. Another factor in deciding on a particular body is the availability of clothing designed to fit it with no adjustment, so when you are demoing bodies be sure to also demo clothes that you would like to wear with it. Happy hunting!
  8. Real typing needs to be done on a real typewriter: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/products/search?search[category_id]=289&search[keywords]=typewriter
  9. Each head model reacts in its own way to shape settings, so when demoing a head you should start with the shape supplied with the demo, and adjust it to your taste. Then if/when you buy a head, go back to your previous system-head shape, write down the shape settings for the non-head parts of the body, then switch to the head shape and apply the settings you wrote down. It seems the default skins with the Lelutka heads (I tried the Simone demo) include eyebrows, and you can also add an eyebrow layer using the HUD or an applier, so to get lighter eyebrows you would need to either get a skin with light eyebrows, or one with no eyebrows and use the HUD or a separate eyebrows applier.
  10. Don't overlook the benefit of a good animation override. It can make a big difference to the lifelike look of a head. Our faces are not static in real life; we blink and move our mouths all the time, and a good AO should be the same. Talking animations should also be realistic.
  11. If they did, then they were a bit late. Ireland's St. Brendan probably discovered it nearly a thousand years earlier. [1]
  12. "Derender/blacklist phantom objects so you don't see them next time." - We usually want to see phantom stuff, for example our boats would look really strange without masts and sails, which are usually phantom. "Check before by 'edit object' if its really phantom." - Sure, after laboriously bringing our boat to a stop, and then checking that each individual item there is phantom - we don't want our way blocked by a solid deckchair on the phantom beach. "Alternative is to sail in a private estate like Fruit Islands with over 200 regions. One owner, one rule...no crap." - So we should just give in and let mainland water be taken over by land-grabbers? No. It's public water, where many of us live, and it's still where the best sailing is. Or how about: Expect people to respect public water, and expect LL to take encroachment reports seriously and deal with them promptly?
  13. Here's one I reported a couple of months ago, and it's still there: It's blocking the entire Linden channel on the east coast of Heterocera. It's a beach, furnished with a campfire etc., inside a rock arch. But the funny thing is that the whole thing is phantom, so it's no use to anybody! Yes we can just sail through it but how are we to know that in advance?
  14. Even worse is those narrow Linden channels with sharp turns, like this one: In theory it's sailable, but anything more than a small motorboat is asking for trouble. Then there are the ads that claim that the land is good for "sailing to the Blake Sea" when it is in fact on the other side of the Nautilus continent and involves a hair-raising trip up to Corsica and back down again, and good luck finding your way home again. The only way to be sure is to actually sail the route in your biggest boat before committing.
  15. There does seem to be a wedge of water there reserved for passing traffic. It's owned by Governor Linden. Of course boats would need to slow down when passing through as it gets very close to the sim corner. If objects from neighbouring parcels encroach on that channel, it should be abuse-reported.
  16. There are lots of makers of mesh heads, and each one typically has a few models, to make sure we don't all end up looking the same! The best resource is probably Strawberry Singh's blog, as well as Mesh Body Addicts. The main dividing line is Bento and non-Bento; Bento heads can be customised far more though are more expensive. Regarding price, you can pay anywhere between 500 and 5,000 L$; the expensive ones tend to have more "extras" included in their HUDs while with the cheaper ones you buy generic extras like animations and Omega appliers for skins and makeup. The important thing is to take your time and demo all the heads that interest you to make sure you can customise them to your requirements. All makers that I know of have in-world shops, with demos available. Most of them also sell on the Marketplace, where they have links to their in-world shops. You will need to get a skin applier that matches your mesh body, if you don't already have a suitable full-body skin, but some heads have bundled skins that match the default skins of popular mesh bodies (e.g. I think Lelutka skins match Maitreya default skins). Nearly all mesh heads support Omega appliers, but you will most likely need to get an Omega relay for the head in order to use Omega skins/makeup. Don't worry, it's simpler than it sounds.
  17. All Omega-friendly mesh eyes should suit furry bodies, as long as they can be resized and repositioned. After that, what matters is the appliers used on them. You could try Omega's eyes, which can be resized and moved, available on the MP.
  18. Have you tried installing Firestorm instead of your current viewer? It works basically the same but has a lot more technical options.
  19. That would be because your lashes are "painted" on your skin. When you blink, the skin on the eyelids stretches, causing that effect. If you switch to plain skin and use the mesh eyelashes supplied with the head, they should move properly when you blink.
  20. In Firestorm, you can go to the preferences and choose your screen font size. I would not be surprised if there was something the same in your viewer.
  21. I switched to Giselle as my main mesh head a couple of months ago (profile picture now updated) and I love it. It was a very generous Christmas present from Altamura which is now being sold for full price, and seems a lot better than some other full-price heads that I have demoed.
  22. You could try a trip to the Free Dove, a whole warehouse full of freebies. Another freebie warehouse is Ajuda SL Brasil, where you can get the free EBodies that Claireschen mentioned - click on the Freebies button on the "Clique para Teletransporte" board. Apparently there was a free Altamura body there for a while, but I don't see it there now. You can get the Altamura free mesh head at the Altamura shop, but its features are limited.
  23. I assume it's just decoration, a flight of fancy by whichever Lindens created those sims. I only know of one, at Omidyar in Sansara. I can't imagine what use a list of them would be. There is also a group of islands arranged in the shape of a 2, which is probably another SL reference, at Zolezzi in Sansara.
  24. Yes, it can only be used there. When you see an item you want to buy, right-click it and select "menu", and buy using your credit.
