  1. There are several mesh bodies available, of which Maitreya is one (though the most popular). They don't sell on the Marketplace. You need to go to their in-world shop (search for it) to get the demo. You could also try other mesh-body demos - most of the popular ones are listed on the Mesh Body Addicts website. There are also several quality mesh-head makers, Catwa being one, and most have several models. Since each head model has its own style, it is important to try lots of demos to find which one best suits your style. Again, Mesh Body Addicts is good, as well as Strawberry Singh's blog. Just make sure whatever head you choose supports Bento and Omega. You might even decide that your current system head looks better.
  2. You can also use Omega skins. Find a skin package that includes both a system skin and either an Omega or Maitreya skin, or separate packages in the same skin tone from the same creator. Get the Omega Relay for Maitreya, and attach its HUD to your screen before clicking the Omega skin applier.

    How To Use This Body

The Marketplace listing says the Sking body is "rigged mesh", but I tried the demo and it does respond a little bit, but not much, to shape settings. There's no getting away from those curves! Also, the alphas supplied with the demo both blank out the hands and feet, so DOC1NHU, if you need an alpha that does not hide the hands and feet, let us know here and I can send you one.

    How To Use This Body

You need to wear the "alpha" that comes with the body. That will hide the patchy skin. We always have to wear a shape, so you have to keep that (or replace with a better shape if you prefer). You will also have to match the colour of the body skin with the skin of the head/hands/feet. There might be a choice of skins supplied with your Sking body to bring the colour close to your system skin. Otherwise you can buy a skin package which contains both a system skin and a matching Omega skin, for a perfect match.
  5. I mix 'n' match the best animations I find in free/cheap HUDs and load them into the Firestorm AO.
  6. I just deleted what I was writing because Skell said it better. I will add that if you ever want to wear beachwear or other skimpy clothes, you really do need a mesh body. Get a free EBody (either Slim or Curvy depending on your style) from their inworld shop, find a bikini/dress/whatever with an EBody-fit version, and Slink-fit shoes, and you could keep it just for the beach.
  7. You are doing integer division there. 34968 / 65536 equals 0. If you cast one or both of them as floats it should work: (float) 34968 / (float) 65536 would give 0.533... I'm not online to test it, but that applies in lots of programming languages.
  8. I built my house from prims, but would like to be able to convert things like stairs and windows to mesh, to reduce prim count, and also convert my grass area to make it look more "organic". I have started various online courses in Blender, and bought a still-unopened book, but maybe some day I will get the patience to actually stick with it ...
  9. If you use a lighter texture then you can add colour to it to try and get a better match.
  10. If you open the world map in your viewer (Ctrl-M), or go to https://maps.secondlife.com, and zoom out, you will see something like this: ... ... which is most of the SL world. If you zoom in you can pick out small features like houses. The big landmasses are most of the "mainland" continents, which are operated by LL but mostly divided into privately-owned parcels which can only be owned by premium members, who can then rent them out to anybody. The big haze of dots are privately-operated sims 256 metres square, which are owned by premium members but also often also divided into parcels and rented out to anybody. Most of the "sea" that you see there does not actually exist and can't be entered. One of the Linden Home continents is shown here at the south-east corner, and there are a few others down to the south. Both mainland and private sims are open to everybody, subject to maturity ratings: every sim has a rating of General/Moderate/Adult, and is only open to avatars matching the rating. The mainland continent of Zindra is not shown here, but is far to the east, and that is open to adults only. Owners/tenants can also put any restrictions they like on access to their parcels. If you open the map in your viewer, it will show you where you are currently, and you can double-click anywhere on it and be teleported there immediately.
  11. Looks interesting. It looks like it will be developed into a full-size continent, assuming they don't abandon it like Gaeta I. I can't imagine it being used for Linden homes, with those mountains and sailable water. Meanwhile, a few weeks ago, the big Eden and Fruit Islands estate was moved, 10 sims to here, and the rest from about here up to the remote north-west, after Eden was taken over by the Fruit Islands owner. I wonder why they felt it necessary to move the whole estate? It must have been an expensive exercise.
  12. But, you need a hole in your head, to kiss with. ?
  13. /me counts inventory ... eh... yes! ? It's maybe a bit soon to be looking for skins for a head that is still being developed. If there is already an Omega relay/installer for it, you could use Omega skins. If you show us what you're looking for, maybe somebody will recognise an existing design. Otherwise, we often see mesh builders advertising in this forum for custom orders. But of course they charge a lot more than you would normally pay for a pair of shoes. Or - a long shot - maybe you could persuade an established shoemaker to add your design to their range.
  14. Mesh heads and bodies are nearly all compatible with each other, so you can combine head and body from different makers no problem. You do have to apply matching skins to both parts. Most heads and bodies come with a bundled selection of skins, and sometimes it just happens that the skins in both parts were made by the same makers and all you have to do is choose matching tones from the head and body HUDs, but that is the exception. Usually you would buy a skin package which includes a skin compatible with both your particular body and head, or separate body and head skins in the same tone from the same maker. "Compatible" means either designed specifically for your body/head brand, or an Omega skin which is compatible with almost all mesh heads (I'm not sure about Genesis) and bodies. To use an Omega skin you usually need to have an Omega relay/installer for your body/head brand - a separate purchase. Mesh heads are available in Bento and non-Bento forms, while quality mesh bodies are nearly all Bento. "Bento" is the name of a Linden Lab project to add extra bones to the avatar skeleton about 2 years ago. A Bento head allows you to adjust the shape of the head's features and use generic face animations. A non-Bento head is usually cheaper but its features are fixed, apart from a few built-in animations in some heads. In a body, Bento enables fingers to be moved separately, and allows you to add animated wings, tails, and other attachments. Quality mesh bodies tend to cost around 3,000 L$, including hands and feet, and sometimes including a head. The standard advice is to get demos of all the bodies that interest you, play with their HUDs and shapes, and see which one suits you best. You can find details and reviews of most popular mesh bodies, and links to where you can get demos, on the Mesh Body Addicts website and the Strawberry Singh blog. The availability of clothes designed to fit your body is also an important factor, so you could also get demos of clothes you would like to wear with it and check that they fit well.
  15. Those are over-the-knee strappy boots that the OP is wearing, so just having the right mesh feet won't be enough. To get a good fit, she needs to wear one of the compatible mesh bodies mentioned in the product listing. Other bodies with compatible feet might work, but there's no guarantee. Edit: Just noticed - 1 L$ ? ! /me clicks Buy Now.
  16. I have no idea what all that wireframe stuff is for, but it sounds like maybe he is wearing mesh eyes without alphaing-out the system eyes. Mesh heads often offer a choice of alphas to either show or hide the system eyes.
  17. A mesh body is an attachment or set of attachments that you wear over your system body to make it look better, in the same way that you might wear a tight-fitting full-cover mesh bodysuit. You also wear a full-body alpha layer to make your system body invisible which stops it poking through the mesh body in places. It is normally constructed as fitted mesh, which means that it will adapt to most changes you make to your avatar's shape. System layer clothes/skin/tattoos which are "painted" onto the system body will no longer work (since the system body is now hidden) but "appliers" achieve the same effect on a mesh body. Most mesh bodies cover the body up to the neck, with mesh heads being available separately to cover the system head. The Mesh Body Addicts website lists details and reviews of most popular mesh bodies, with links to the shops where you can get demos. Strawberry Singh's blog also has lots of useful information. So, get a few demos that interest you and play with them. You could also get the two free EBody mesh bodies at their shop and the free Altamura body+head on the Women Only Hunt which ends soon (all with limited features). Each model of mesh body has its own way of responding to shape settings, so clothes are usually made to fit specific bodies (though they could fit well on other bodies too). So if you are thinking of buying a particular mesh body, make sure there is good availability of clothes that fit it.
  18. Without a mesh body it would now be like: Oh pretty, doesn't work on system bodies They're cute, need mesh feet The standard of clothing is really much better now than it was years ago, even if we have to improve our bodies to match.
  19. You can search for "long hair NOT demo" (the capital letters are needed) and that will filter out most of the demos, though not them all as some makers have sneaky ways of getting around that. Then you can filter by category (the list on the left of the page), like Avatar Accessories -> Hair -> Women's Long Hair. However, not all long hair has "long hair" in its title, so you might be better to search for simply "NOT demo" then use the category filter.
  20. You could just terraform the land. Right-click on the land and "edit terrain".
  21. Of course there is! But it seems my driver is still at the pub.
  22. If your avatar got a haircut that would be fine here, but would you mind either (1) explaining how your RL haircut has any relevance to SL or (2) removing (most of) the pictures, to avoid cluttering up the forum with irrelevant stuff? Thanks.
  23. What I do is, before leaving home rez a cube prim and attach it to myself. Then go to the house or other item I want to measure and activate a still pose. Align the cube with the floor and resize it to the same dimensions. Finally, read the dimensions of the (ex-) cube from the edit window, which should be what you want. Alternatively, just stand at each corner of the house in turn, and read your location in metres from the top of the screen, and calculate the approximate house dimensions from that.
  24. Welcome back! You don't need to spend money to enjoy SL. There are lots of quality freebies available, though it takes time to build up a quality wardrobe, and be prepared to throw out most of what you collect. You could start with a visit to the Free Dove (search for it in-world) which is a whole warehouse full of freebies, and follow freebie blogs like FabFree, which features quality new freebies every day and shop groups worth joining. You will find that a lot of clothes (especially shoes) now are designed to fit particular brands of mesh bodies, but they often work well on system bodies too. You could get yourself a free mesh body by going to the EBody shop inworld (search for it) and getting their two free bodies, and you might find it works better than the system body for many clothes.
