  1. Oh, and cheer up! It's next year already.
  2. My partner and I go exploring Mainland in PODs. Find a POD station, sit on the POD and it takes you for a tour. Fantastic fun, free too. We have a POD station on our parcel now. But the best one for choice is here: YavaScript Pod Station, Sansara, Durango (158, 190, 117)
  3. Now that IS a good idea. I had to ban one avatar that complained she bumped her head going up my stairs...
  4. You have to do that anyway, because so many places have terrible physics. That's why I always set my as-worn height on Linden bottom-land, you just can't trust a mesh plane.
  5. As I guess it's obvious by now, I'm one of those who needs to know 'WHY'. And now I do. Thanks. And ya, I do have that appearance pose thing set. Edit: I thought I had, but on checking I don't - so that is still a mystery. Glad I asked.
  6. Thanks for that. Now it starts to make sense. Almost all those settings, apart from the heights, are changing the shape of something I already alpha-ed out!
  7. This post and the question it asks makes the fundamental mistake of thinking that SecondLife is ALL about commerce and clothes. While I might agree that many of us enjoy the ability to create an avatar and dress it as we would like to a very hight standard, and there may be some people for whom this is the most important aspect of the system, for me at least it is only a minor part of my 2nd life. Even if Linden Labs shut down the commerce, removed the shops, made us all look like one of their clone-avatars, I would still log on, just to meet amazing people in a place where (race/disability/sex/age....) prejudice is pretty minimal. SL, like RL, will reach it's goal about the same time as hell freezes over. It's the people that matter. (even Maddy and Snugs)
  8. 2 post troll... probably an arsetome recruiter.
  9. Since SL gave us the easy-to-change hover height adjustment, shoe designers have slowly stopped including shoebase objects in with their creations. But I like them for ease in which they can added as part of an outfit. So usually end up making my own. The way I do it is to add a new shoe, and then edit it's parameters, the important ones seem to be Heel Height and Platform Height. But I don't truly understand them. Can some kind soul point me at a proper explanation? Edit: I should add that, to avoid the effects of floors being made wrong with the physics below or above the plane, I do my shoe fitting on the sea-floor at Z=0, and on Linden ground. On top of that, when I change the setting and then close the edit, SL changes the hover height again, so the carefully set hover is now wrong. This results in a process of going round and round until I get something that works. Why is this happening and is there a workflow that prevents it?
  10. No, they are talking about me. Because I have a title. Suck it up, commoners.
  11. It's easy, first get a full perm all round photo of a naked Rihanna.... I suspect you will need to pay the lady, as her look is her Trade Mark, and I'm pretty sure the courts would support her if she wanted, say, $10M for the shots.
  12. If you find out how to delete posts, please come back and tell us!

    Name change

Being royalty, I don't have a last name, so 'Resident' suits me fine.
  14. I warn everyone that I am developing a submarine, with the express purpose for seeking out Avatars standing on the sea bottom and asking them rude questions.
  15. One of the best things about Firestorm is the built-in AO. You can load it with a pose you got. On the one occasion when I bought an AO (Voir, Almost Still), I stripped all the poses out of it and put the ones I liked into the Firestorm. Just in case peeps don't know, you can often get the poses out of an AO by rezzing it in the ground and opening it. There are some that use a different method, but I won't buy those.
  16. The Maitreya owner has to buy a 99L Omega relay. Then they work quite well.
  17. One of my BIG bugbears is not being able to put a Maitreya Autohide script into things. Almost everything ends up in a folder with the autohide in a little prim. I mean why do people sell Maitreya things that need Autohide anyway, just lazy rigging I guess, and it isn't hard for the creator to put the autohide in too.
  18. Thanks for that. The jaw does exist as far as my CTS Wardrobe is concerned (and it uses RLV), and it's where Lelutka parks it's head. I got the script going now. Several stupid typos. I'm usually wandering blind...
  19. I do that ALL the time. And that one doesn't even make sense! Too many computer languages...... Thank you.
  20. I'm using RLV successfully to add some base items from a folder using a notecard to drive the attachment. I want now to eliminate the notecard and use the folder in which the script is stored in Inv to contain the items. This seems possible with RLV using the uuid of the prim containing the script to identify the folder it comes from. However I made a small test script to develop my understanding of the folder side of RLV and it's not doing what I expect: integer listen_handle; default { state_entry() { listen_handle == llListen(2222,"",llGetOwner(), ""); } attach (key owner_id) { llOwnerSay("Attached"); llOwnerSay("@getpathnew:jaw=2222"); } listen (integer chan, string name, key id, string message ) { llOwnerSay("Message on channel:"+(string)chan); llOwnerSay(message); llListenRemove(listen_handle); } } Before using the uuid, I decided to use an attachment point (jaw) that I know has an item from the #RLV folders attached, but after the initial "Attached" diagnostic, I get no outputs. I tried various other attachment points that I know are occupied, but no luck. The script-prim is in RLV, as is the item attached on the jaw. What am I doing wrong?
  21. Chic Aeon's series on wooded packing crates is excellent too. Once you get the building-bug, there is no escape, you gotta make more.... https://www.slartist.com/browse-the-tutorial-chic-videos-1-date.html
  22. One other thought, if the rezbox originally had a no-copy object in it, then only the first re-rez would contain that object. Check the copy perms on the objects.
  23. The lines show you where Sketchup has divided the wall into triangles. In SL everything is made of triangles (tris), the simplest flat 2D object. Most 3D modellers use Quads to model, basically a quad is a plane with 4 corners, so you see people talking about Quads and Tris. Each Quad gets split into 2 Tris for SL. The back wall you can see is a rectangular object, each face made of 2 tris. But the curves are made of a number of quads, each face now 2 tris. In all your mesh contains 320 triangles, and that is actually quite good. However, some of them, the ones on the top of the wall, for instance, are very small (see the 3 Black Dots - error markers - that's the reason it will not let you upload it), and SL hates small triangles, because they take a lot of computing power to work out. From where you got to, press the 'Calculate weights and fee' button, and show us what it says. The 3 numbers next to the fee are the interesting ones. Simplifying a lot: Download is the cost of copying your mesh to a viewer - number of triangles is important here; Physics is an estimate of how hard it is to work out if some other object has hit yours, this is where the shape and size of the triangles matters; and Server is how much resources the Sim Server has to expend to rezz the object. Land Impact is just the highest one. As this is low poly already (320 tris) your problem is going to be physics. So you need to find a way to make much simpler physics model, one without those tiny tris on the top of the wall. One way would be to take this collada (.dae) into Blender (it's free, but a massive learning curve for you) and strip the mesh down to just the outside faces of the wall, possibly halving the number of faces too, and then using that as physics. But this is definitely going to be hard for you without some Blender experience - there are great video turtoials though, I can recommend Chic Aeon's (search that name). AND I should add, we all started where you are. It is possible to learn this stuff, even if we are not all as talented as Chin, Chic and Klytyna.
