  1. In my old SL life, I had VIP groups, owner groups, and officer groups. That worked fine but three separate groups was a bit unmanageable. So for my new group, I got smart (I thought). I just created VIP, owner, and officer roles within my one new group. Perfect. Each role has differing abilities. But now I've run into a problem. I am setting up a group joiner for my customers. I want customers to be able to join my group and placed in the VIP role. The group joiner script I have wants a UUID, of course, but the only one I can find is for the entire group, not a role in that group. Is there a way to place my requesting customers directly into the VIP role?
  2. Dear Scibblers and scripters, I just to clarify something I was told in a scripting group in world in regard to UUID. I was told I could no longer rely on UUID being valid as they get re-assigned from inventories . I had to use names instead this means i have to put my animations in my build not in my inventory and use UUID. Is this correct or have you heard this being said?
  3. My question: Is there an URL to a web page or service that I can use to submit the SL username in order to return the Resident UUID? This URL seems to work for most Residents, but about 10% return "Sorry, we did not find anything that matches." https://search.secondlife.com/client_search.php?q=Sean.Heavy&s=People I would submit an example of the error, but I'm not sure TOS allows me to share a link to a random Resident. (If this is not a TOS violation, please let me know and I'll post an example of one that fails.) Background: I am creating a database and web app for my own use to keep track of my customers. So far, I am just using my SL-Orders and SL-Transactions spreadsheets that I can download to see who purchased my items on the MP and in my shops. I am uploading these spreadsheets into my database. My web app setup is LAMP, (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP). I want to include the UUID of all my customers in my database. I have been able to determine most avatar UUIDs with this URL: https://search.secondlife.com/client_search.php?q=<USERNAME>&s=People For me: https://search.secondlife.com/client_search.php?q=Sean.Heavy&s=People The UUID is in the first URL to: http://world.secondlife.com/resident/<UUID> In my case: http://world.secondlife.com/resident/9ab87ce6-3048-402f-a8f6-f680925a12c3 In testing my automated script using this URL to find a random group of 24 of my customers, I get 3 that are not found which seems like a lot for such a small test. (I also manually entered these URL/Residents to make sure it wasn't just my PHP script.) (FYI, I do a sleep 2 seconds before every search to avoid overloading the SL site.) After logging into SL, I can use the in-world search to find those specific Residents, at which point I can get the UUID and copy/paste it to my database, but that would be a lot of manual, error prone work, which I am trying to avoid. ~Sean Heavy

Hello everyone, Just a curious question, if someone uploads some resource (texture, sounds, etc) and makes it full perm, and suppose somehow I get to know its UUID, then can I simply use that resource by calling its UUID in my script, even if I have not bought it? And what if the resource has restrictions on it (no trans, no copy, etc) and I still call its UUID in my script? Not trying to free ride just wondering if that is possible. Thank you very much.
  5. Hello! please help with scripts! i need to turn the texture changer scripts(sender/receiver) into material texture changer. it uses uuids. There are two scripts. for primmy hud with 3 buttons. I have already posted this request in the job section, but just in case, here too. I understand scripts quite a bit. maybe just tell me what needs to be done, if not difficult.
  6. Hello! I want to create a particle UUID slideshow script based on this script from the library and this UUID slideshow script. Can anyone advise how to do this?   7. Hello Whenever I try to export my appearance (developer -> avatar -> character test -> appearance to xml file), the UUID shows consisting of null, 0's only. I was able to get them before, about a year ago. I am not sure what changed ever since, or how to solve this. I updated my Firestorm, but I don't think that's the reason. I tried using original SL viewer as well, no chance I use the same sim I used last year, no change on script rights etc. I don't wear alpha layer I don't wear multiple clothing layers or anything overlapping Thank you!

I need to create a script that allows to loop a 10 seconds sound clip from the UUIDs list in the script (or one notecard). and to switch to the next loop when clicked, (please, note - not full song player - only one 10 seconds loop) with the ability to turn on / off. any suggestions? Scheme, how i see it: start list: bananas - uuid1, vol 1.0; madonna - uuid2, vol 1.0; ... jackson - uuid3, vol 1.0; on/off ?; if touched loop next uuid; end. Yes, I already asked and really hate to do this, but now I decided to try to create my own script, because I did not find a suitable one from the existing ones.

Hello, is there an open source music player script for looped playback of ten-second sounds from the UUIDs in config notecard or script itself? like a boombox script, but not with a bunch of sounds in the content, I need not whole songs but short loops, "best" selected looped moments. so that users can add their own "song loops". And with any way to switch to the next track. If menu - just perfect!
  12. If we upload a sound clip, use its uuid in a script and delete the sound from inventory. It will still work in script, right ?
  13. Hi all, I'm sure this has been asked before, but I can't locate an exact answer, and I'm relatively new to SL. I have developed my male avatar with a mesh body and Bento attributes that were supplied by the vendor (Signature Gianni). Since his body was not complete in it's default state (missing a *****) - I purchased an Aeros Darius and completed the fittings. However, the avatar skin - which took quite a bit of adjustments to make look realistic - does not match his *****' skin. The vendor (Aeros) offers many skin textures to choose from, but they are not an exact match to the avatar's body skin tone. However, Aeros allows the end user to customize the base color by inserting a UUID (Universally Unique Identifier) numeric value into the ***** controller HUD. Question: How do I find the UUID of the body's skin to the copy it to the customization feature of the Aeros? Any other tips - greatly appreciated! Thanks!
  14. When I am at work, employer restrictions preclude installation or use of a Second Life viewer. However, I can check IMs when I am offline of SL by having them shunted to an external email address. This I do. I can also log in to the SL website and affiliates like the GTFO website while I'm at work. For use with the GTFO website, I need to look up my avatar's UUID. How can I do this without using any Second Life viewer? Is this even possible?

  17. When I say authenticate in this, I mean to take some information to confirm that A equals B(EG: Is Chaser.Zaks equal to Chaser.Zaks). It is important to note that this isn't fully finalized and Linden Lab may change specific stuff, this is written based off what I know. This isn't a Linden Lab notice, it is a resident to resident notice. Some things MAY BE INCORRECT. This is intended for primarily scripters to raise awareness they need to update their scripts to properly authenticate people via UUID. Please do not spread F.U.D.(Fear, Uncertaincy, Doubt) by skimming through this and spreading incorrect/inaccurate words in group chats. If you already authenticate users by the UUID, then you don't have anything to worry about. The change: If you haven't seen it already, take a quick skim through During a User Group meeting, it has been slightly confirmed(As in, it is the current plan, this may not be 100% the choice yet) to allow users to change their last name, and even first name. For scripters(Both LSL and external), this is a very big and concerning change. We can normally authenticate residents by their username(EG: Chaser.Zaks, Saltyalt.Resident, Ebbe.Linden, etc), but because of this change, this is no longer a viable solution. I have always been authenticating residents via their UUID. The UUID will never change. It is important to authenticate residents using their UUID. What this means for existing content: If you are a scripter, if you haven't already been doing so, authenticate users by their UUID. If you are not a scripter, check that you can authenticate residents via their UUID. If you cannot do this, you will need to contact the creator. If you are a web developer, APIs are planned to allow us web developers to authenticate and update information as needed. Why this change is may be of impact: If you authorize people to be in your parcel by their username, and they change their name, they may no longer be authorized to enter your parcel and get ejected. Why this isn't a security risk / Why you shouldn't worry someone will take over your sim: Once a username has been used(EG: Chaser.Zaks), it can no longer be used again, for example: Say I have a security system which lets me use stuff like /1 eject <name>, or /1 ban <name>, and said security system only checks to see if the user who used it has the name "Chaser.Zaks" I change my name from Chaser.Zaks to Chaser.Soupcanister Someone sees this and thinks "I can use this to my advantage", So they try to change their name to "Chaser.Zaks" They are told they cannot use this name as it has been previously used. Estimated time frame of this change: Not any time soon, but within this year likely. Think somewhere like October or December 2018. This is a big change and a lot of stuff needs to be changed internally to make sure it doesn't break stuff. I assume some things internally may be using name based identification. Updating scripts: Sometimes people may use llDetectedName or the Name parameter from listen. You should instead use llDetectedKey or the UUID parameters when possible. You do not need to change this for stuff that just says "Hello, <insert name here>".   18. I have lost many textures over the years, some stupidly and some by SL glitches. I do have clothing pieces I created from before the textures themselves were lost. Is there any way I can use the clothing article (UUID) to recover the original texture? For example, if I no longer had the texture below, but I DID have the jacket I made from it in inventory, can I somehow resurrect the texture below? Thank you, Skye Qi

I am looking in to how when using the inbuilt browser on second life pre logs the user in when they visit secondlife.com, I would like to be able to pull the UUID or username from this data to know who is visiting/viewing. I have tried printing out all the headers using php/apache but nothing I know if I use the LSL llHTTPRequest I can use X-SecondLife-Owner-Key is there any way of doing this with the inbuilt browser?
