  5. Hi, I'm looking to get 2048sqm of double prim mainland or 2x1024sqm parcels beside eachother. I've money sitting waiting to buy this at the right place for the right price! I'm not after anything fancy, I don't need water, I don't need 2/3/4x protected or anything like that. The only request is that it isn't (general) rated. Expect an instant sale if you make a good offer! I've been scouring the grid so I know what the prices are generally like, and that they are usually set by landbarons who sit on the parcels for months without shifting them!

  8. Looking to sell a half-sim mainland parcel. [nothing wrong with the area, we're just downsizing!] Linden: L$35000 [1.1L/per meter] 32,768 m2 [1/2 Sim Parcel] 11250 prims Moderate TP: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Zumanus/182/105/61
  9. The new trend in advertising of parcel rental prices is pricing by the meter. I am one who stops to do the math before I make any kind of financial decision- and I thought I'd pass on my research. I came across some advertising of Company A that said "0.26 L$ a meter a week for normal land and water parcels 0.29 L$ a meter a week for protected roadside parcels 0.33 L$ a meter a week for protected waterside and waterway parcel." At first glance it's a price to make you go WOW when Company B sells a parcel for L3094 a week. Ooooo That MUST be a better deal, right? Let's look at the numbers. Take a random parcel I found: (roadside) 2368m for $L447 for 812 prims a week by Company B standards. BTW this pricing is per prim according to the company itself. Let's compare it to Company A's pricing policy per meter: using my calculator, I did .29 x 2368 = 686.72. WOW that is 239.72 L more expensive! That is nearly 54% higher! Just by pricing it by meter. Be aware, when you parcel off land, LL AUTOMATICALLY assigns prims to the parcel so there can be no prim difference without "playing with the prim sharing" in the region. Such as... Apartments- everyone getting 50 prims (when the space actually gives 150 prims); companies using the sky for skydomes thus lowering the amount of prims available per parcel, companies "borrowing prims" from other parcels in the same region, etc etc. These are all tactics that they use to attract renters. Oh we have more prims per parcel! we have a larger space! Oh and heaven forbid if you rent out a larger space, less prim parcel - say.... 16384 meters with only 1/2 the amount of prims LL assigns because they used them for other parcels... Company A's price would be (roadside) L$4752 for 2600 prims vs Company B's L$3074 for 5625 prims... Which company would you choose? Be smart when comparing companies. Many are just trying to rip off the consumer. Why am I telling you this secret? Because I used to be one who was ripped off, and I have found a company who is SMART about their pricing. Just food for thought.

  12. Alright, lets talk about Bellisseria roads and road vehicles for a second. We all have seen nicely done boat rez zones conveniently placed around the continent. They all have reazonable space and are clearly marked to let everyone know you can rez your water vehicle there. We have also seen couple air strips appearing in the area, each one with their own dedicated rez zone for aircrafts (not clearly maked but atleast they are there), but lets talk about Road vehicles and road rez zones... Bellisseria has a problem with road vehicles rez zones. Current road rez zones seems to be placeholder or temporary solutions. They are all currenly found on undeveloped regions arround the developed areas, nothing in between. They are also lacking any kind of marking to let people know of their existance. Newly developed areas seems to also not take vehicle rez zones in consideration as there is none to be found to the date of this post. I am personally hoping that these rez zones has their own space on the developers list of things to have as road vehicles are certainly important when the continent has so much space dedicated to roads alone, and a large community with big interest for road vehicles. Let's make sure they are not forgotten shall we? Is not lag, or your bad driving... the roads are actually broken. Maybe you have noticed that driving around Bellisseria is not exactly a smooth experience. You are not crazy... roads has some issues you can't really see. Bellisseria roads seems to be the first road by the LDPW made out of mesh pieces and they aren't exactly perfect. After some driving, I noticed my vehicles were pretty bouncy, specially on curves. I also had many issues with my vehicles simply refusing to move, randomly, in some areas.. just revving the engine without moving. Upon closer inspection I realized that the road custom colission shapes had various problems that caused various types of issues with the vehicles. These problems has been properly reported and we hope to see them fixed soon. More on that: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/BUG-227210 Bellisseria is a great place to take a drive! The continent is without doubt one of the top mainland areas to take a scenic drive. Let's support improvements like these to help polish that experience!

  16. This is going to be a long one, so bear with me, heavy doses of "rights conflict " balancing, but the goal I'd like to keep in mind is the best experience for *everyone* I really do think SL is perhaps on the brink of a mini Renaissance brought about by a spate for forward thinking policy changes from mainland bonuses to LI to the new Linden Homes, and I'm very happy to see this, but one thing about the interview Patch gave the Bellisserian caught my attention as worthy of talking about here and that's the idea of Linden Homes as starter homes that some people will graduate from when they desire more "freedom", at which point they will go to mainland rental or purchase. And I'm not sure that's how things will play out, on the whole (although maybe it is, in which case: rock on, LL) The rub here is that "freedom from" is as important as "freedom to". Now before this already gets needlessly contentious, let me begin by saying that I do support the idea of mainland being the place of maximum freedom in builds. There absolutely will always be a market for that and it allows those who place "personal expression" above all else a place to be themselves within the broad parameters of the TOS. THIS IS UN DISPUTEDLY A GOOD THING. The problem is going to be that I foresee a day, and not far off when, those who can live happily on a diet of 350 LI and within a strict covenant stay largely on the Linden Homes continents. Those who need more LI but like themed living will own or rent on estates. And mainland will be for the anarchists.... except even anarchists don't necessarily want to be surrounded by full bright whatchits, yellow tape, and spinning red *for sale signs*. Those things won't attract a lot of new buyers, especially among people who were wooed into SL by generous premium benefits and gorgeous home plots. "But, Kaos", you may say: "that's what de render options and sky palaces are for". Yes, that works for some. But it leads to a lack of a sense of community... and the newfound sense of community in Bellisseria, for example, is exactly what is driving the nascent Renaissance. So I see this as a problem that may only escalate on mainland in future. What if we could find some way that wasn't client side, to address this? I know parcel owner "derender things outside my parcel for visitors- and make that opt in" on the server side is just not doable. I know that Windlight settings can only obscure so much of what the neighbor's cats drag in. Even w/ EEP (which is still quite a topic) I know that throwing up parcel walls is just ugly, and again: isolating AF. But, what can we do to make mainland a place people will want to visit/ own? I'm no scripter, but is there a way to project a parcel Windlight sky on a tall screen that is phantom and invisible from the outward facing side, so people can effectively have just sky & water as a view for their visitors, but the neighbors aren't inconvenienced? Help me find a win/win here for all in Second Life.

  24. EDIT: Aw shucks, I'm a forum n00b and posted this in the section dedicated to people, not places! I spend a majority of my time in Second Life wandering around the mainland continents, so I'd think it'd be interesting to have a general discussion about experiences with other people who enjoy wandering around as well! Favourite vehicle to travel with: If I'm not walking around on my legs, my favourite vehicle for wandering around is some sort of freebie hoverboard I found (also by wandering). It's not too fast or too slow, it can go over water, and holding the jump button makes it able to jump over obstacles as well. It can pretty much go over every terrain! Weirdest place I've found: I once found a church dedicated to Barack Obama. The building was structured like a church, only except it had pictures of Obama everywhere. It was so weird that I landmarked the place. I checked if it was still there yesterday, but it has changed into somebody's private home with a security orb... I also found this hotel building long ago. It was empty and there was no one in it. I looked around the place and eventually I found a door that looked the same as all the other doors. I opened it, and instead of being a nice-looking yet empty room like all the others, it had an ugly grey floor with a lone mattress. I clicked on the mattress, and found out it was labelled "Dirty Rape Mattress". Even though the building was empty, I promptly exited that place. Favourite place I found: Someone had made some sort of North Pole village. It has all these Santa elves, Santa's workshop, a bakery, and lots of Christmas themed buildings actually. I think it was really pretty. I think it was at some sort of region called Porvoo. Other random remarks: Once I found a really long wall with a really long tunnel inside of it. It was great. For me, I've rarely ever met many other people wandering around. If I do see other people, they're normally just sitting in their house, or they're shopping. Strangely enough, I find minor griefers really interesting. (By minor, I mean you walk past, they shoot all these stuff at you for no reason, but nothing more drastic and not enough to break the game or make you crash.) They're really open to interacting with strangers. Some were fans of vehicles, and if you rez one at a rez-zone with more than two seats and start driving the vehicle, there's a chance that they will hop along for a ride to wherever you're going for a while. I've even had odd race with one of them (though it was short lived, because eventually the sim-crossings and fast vehicles don't mix.) Once I fell in the lake and saw a giant catfish, big enough to eat you. The only sea monsters I've spotted in Blake Sea are those hammerhead sharks (which are average sized), and in Blake Sea - Kraken, there's a family of squids there. Two biggish squids, and two little squids. Well, except for the time someone remarked that they did see a sea monster in Blake Sea, only to describe my avatar! Sometimes I wish the mainland was more interesting. Don't get me wrong, you can find a lot of places of interest while wandering (e.g. temples, churches, castles, amusement parks, other interesting architecture), but the amount of houses, shops, and empty abandoned land really do outnumber the places of interest for me. Sometimes I can walk over 30 minutes, and all I've come across are houses and more houses and shops. And many aren't in neat villages or towns, they're just oddly scattered over the hills, with banlines and stuff blocking you. Maybe I'm just wandering around the wrong places... Sometimes you come across people not actively wandering, they're just standing around outside in the middle of nowhere (the place isn't any good for photography). If you talk to them, they do respond, meaning the person is behind the keyboard. So sometimes I wonder what they're doing, standing in boring places where you can't build anything. Attempting to drive a boat on land is... interesting. One of the boats I have work on land, but it can't go up slopes, and ends up sliding down. The other boat doesn't work at all. I've found a place with a speed camera. Since I don't have any money, I enjoy trying to speed past it and trying to get the highest fine I can. (Unfortunately I can't remember how many lindens the fine costed, but the highest speed the camera recorded from me was 120 km per hour). ~~~ So, share your wandering experiences and any odd stuff you've seen or people you've met!
