  1. Shouldn’t you ask those who look at you like a villain? I’m indifferent to your RL/SL races.
  2. Sometimes, some mesh items fail to rez on top of other mesh surfaces like houses ’n stuff, due to their actual, invisible mesh bounding areas. What I do is to create a simple prim platform (Ctrl + 3, click the magic wand icon on top that says “Create”, then click on the floor or any other surface until a simple prim box appears, then edit it to flatten it and make it big enough to be your “mini-rezzing-platform”), then rez your furniture items onto it, then move them to wherever you wanted them. When you’re done, delete your “mini-rezzing-platform”.
  3. “Does”? Yes and no. It creates opportunities for bonding, by drawing attention that might otherwise go elsewhere. But I can count on one hand how many good, lasting bonds resulted in all my 10 SL years from what might’ve initially been just the avatar’s “wow” factor. “Should”? No. Only yesterday, a guy spent the better part of an hour trying to convince me that his opening, impulse praise of my avatar was not just the first step, but in fact all the steps necessary for me to declare an effective friendship with him. He would’ve gotten exactly nowhere even if he hadn’t been tripping over himself with so much faulty logic, I actually ended up laughing hard and considered continuing the absurd conversation just for the giggles.
  4. Try dropping this requisite. It’s debatable whether it’d be critically important if you were looking for a serious, long-term romantic relationship with RL possibilities, but for friends? If you find you have common interests with the other, then you have common interests with the other. Couldn't possibly matter less if the age is exactly the same, or vastly different 😉
  5. “Tip the DJs, you penny-pinching f****ers!!”. I actually know a host (of sorts) who does that. Of course it’s part of a running joke, and he’s equally subtle with most other things 😂
  6. I hang out at London City as well. It’s Moderate-rated, often quite crowded, and thought this itself attracts the odd troll desperate for an audience, they rarely last long. Usuallythere’s a mix of strangers and acquaintances (if you become a regular), new & veteran players, very normal people and oddballs.
  7. It still is, and Kali’s answer is right: it just doesn’t mean what you think. “... every reasonable effort...” implies that the Adult content mustn’t be easily seen from an exterior observer’s casual point of view. Tenants in those other skyboxes couldn’t claim they see it from their houses even if they didn’t want to, because to do so they would have to send their cam to a considerable distance and make it go inside closed doors. That’s exactly what it means. Actually, the Peeping Tom would, for the reasons explained above. Also, in practice it’s very unlikely a Governance agent would come check the AR’s validity while you were still performing the Adult activity (unless you & your partner(s) have a lot of stamina), so this policy more usually applies to static Adult content such as erotic pictures in the interior walls. Either way, as long as it is within closed doors, the AR would still be dismissed. It’s another thing that a determined Peeping Tom could see the Adult activity or contents: yes, he could, and perhaps the rental’s description was misleading about that. But that’s not about LL-actionable policy, which is what you were asking 😉
  8. That’d be cute for about 15 minutes; then you better believe I’d just copy the notecard’s contents, dump ’em into a .txt file, transfer it to my tablet, and close SL for an actual, comfortable & distraction-free reading. Maybe I’m not much of an immersionist, but if your work really interested me, I’d want to immerse in that, rather than in looking like I’m reading. You could offer free in-world samples indeed, but whole novels? Dunno about that. The one thing I think there’s a niche for, is in being an editor of sorts. A lot of written contents in SL are rather poorly done, and while not a lot of people will consciously look for spelling, grammar & structure mistakes (and quite a few wouldn’t find them even if they tried), it still gives a feeling of lack of polish that, for example for Marketplace products, makes you suspect the actual product may be just as unpolished. A professional-looking writing goes a long way in selling the stuff—using your own words, it gives the feeling of neat organization behind the scenes. I’d advise looking for high-volume merchants whose Marketplace/in-world writing ads make you think you could vastly improve on, and give them a few samples of how you’d do it.
  9. If I had the same wardrobe in RL as I do here, I’d catch a cold every 3 weeks or so. “Nicer” doesn’t quite describe it.
  10. Depends hugely on whether the conversation happens naturally—i.e, if there really is something to talk about.
  11. For short inactive periods it just isn’t practical to keep logging off & on. At any rate, and much as it might seem surprising to some, interaction isn’t a requirement to play SL; it’s part of the culture of SL that as long as it’s not something offensive and/or harmful to you (and it’s hard to argue that not getting an answer could be), it should’t be construed as objectionable either.
  12. 99% on my initiative, 1% on the other’s, and 0% of those who ask more than once (or think it’s a way to cultivate friendship, let alone start it).
  13. Maybe that we can’t conceive Sagan having done his fair share of sex & mindless shopping. I can. I have a vivid imagination.
  14. Occasionally. I’ve sometimes pointed out that it would be a major AI feat for any bot to actually hold a conversation at that level—and, ironically, many didn’t understand what I meant.
  15. Unreadable ones (inverted or otherwise fancy lettering): if you want to make it hard to read, how about I don’t read it at all. “Put this in your profile if you care about puppies” (below a mess of ASCII codes so vaguely resembling a dog, you wonder if they really care enough not to have put a damn picture of one).
  16. None whatsoever. Even if it’s gonna be an Adult proposition, I’d love nothing better than "Sex?” - “No.”, for minimum time & effort waste. More generally, people have been surprised to see how much better I respond to directness.
  17. Good idea. It should have special mods that’ll only lock the threads the moment people stop digressing from whatever the OP was talking about, and/or start mentioning anything Second Life
