  2. I *know* that this is how film noir looks, but I cannot say that I've seen a movie matching this kind of scene precisely. Strange!

  4. Right. I keep making that point to the Lindens I know. The first hour of the SL mobile experience has to be really good. Users must not be bored, not be confused, and not encounter any immersion-breaking bugs. Suggested reading for Lindens: "The Gamer's Brain", by Dr. Celia Hodent. She has a doctorate in psychology, and she designed the user experience for Fortnite. So she knows what she's talking about. The video version, from GDC:

  5. I don't want to repeat what everyone else has said. But Zalificent, I personally don't mind that you raise lots of problems. You have a lot of knowledge and experience of Second Life up there and I respect that. My main gripe is you never seem to think of other peoples spirits. Sometimes you seem to function a bit like a dementor that exists for the soul purpose of striking down the human spirit sometimes. I'm not claiming to be an angel myself. I do value your insight. I just wish you'd think of the mood you tend to put people in and how it might not bring out the best in those around you. That's all.

  15. We usually show off pictures for how we've styled the free mesh heads. Here's one from BeSpoke - a hybrid Faun or Gazelle. It's free at The Warehouse. I've modified the shape slightly, but this is one of the skins it comes with. How would you style it? Note it doesn't have to be an animal-hybrid. It could easily be an alien and probably a N'avi. I put her in a neutral color, so she can camouflage herself & running shoes, so she can run faster.

  18. 😉 First, I will say that I wish-to-***** that the Forum had a better selection of response emojis like Discord does. And, while recognizing the pejorative connotation (or maybe there are more than one? too lazy to look lol), yes, I do see Scylla as a mixed bag, but in a positive way.

  19. What they've said suggests the main focus is on getting existing stuff finished and improved. Plus the mainland is supposed to be getting some work done. It'd make sense to take a break from new themes to focus on the other things.

  22. I came across this the other day too, AI giving garbage medical advice. https://www.pcgamer.com/software/ai/googles-new-ai-search-feature-has-been-recommending-people-drink-urine-light-in-color-so-heres-how-to-turn-its-ai-overviews-off-to-avoid-such-dodgy-advice/ When one takes the human elements out of something, it's dehumanizing. Literally. It should be treated as such. (imo or whatever) People are hugely invested in it though, not just in terms of $$. I could point out that Second Life doesn't need more of this sort of stuff either but it's a lost cause, and it didn't come out of a vacuum.

  24. Many of these posts are shortsighted. Mobile, from the perspective of the business, is nothing but upside. There is zero risk of driving away existing high value customers while increasing service availability to currently untapped markets. First off, Linden Lab is not stupid and understands the shortcomings with mobile. One should expect the Mobile app to be more focused on avatar customization and shopping. I expect the Marketplace to be more tightly integrated with the SL client, and there is a possibility that the incumbent vendor platform, Casper, becomes integrated as well. That alone should drive growth, as avatar apps are very popular, and the extant content in SL (if carefully curated) looks fantastic compared to that of other platforms. Once users fall in love with their avatars, they will be strongly incented to try out the Desktop experience. A benefit of the Mobile experience, even if limited, is that it forces Linden Lab to think hard about solving issues with the current platform architecture that would otherwise be seen as nitpicking. Therefore it is a good project for Linden Lab engineering, which has some highly talented engineers that may be underutilized or underappreciated. Currently, the platform is slow to load and requires large amounts of data to be transferred in order to render the full experience. The platform is also old in terms of graphics technology, although they have recently added PBR, a much welcome improvement. By giving their engineers a clever incentive, Linden Lab should be able to produce a more optimized Second Life experience on the Desktop. An effort to ship a Mobile experience is thus a driver for growth. I expect SL's netcode and architecture, even on the Desktop experience, to significantly improve. These benefits do not stop at retrofitted improvements to the current platform. Once the platform is rearchitected for mobile, it should bring more ambitious development efforts, such as VR, closer or within reach, especially as VR experiences are sensitive to degradations in network latency and graphics performance. Financially speaking, investing in a Mobile experience is mostly CapEx and little OpEx. This increases the valuation of Linden Lab even if the app generates minimal traction, and one would be shortsighted to believe anyone at the helm would say no to developing a Mobile experience. From a marketing perspective, shipping a Mobile experience is a strong signal that the company backing Second Life is invested in the experience and should generate growth in MAU from simple organic search and WOM referrals. The fact that there is no current Mobile experience signals that Second Life is ancient tech. This may lead to decreased conversion as many choose to have their avatar experience on IMVU, which boasts a far larger userbase, but is actually the worse platform. Furthermore, do not underestimate the importance of staying connected. Many people on Second Life live very rich virtual lives, and therefore want to stay connected with their friends. The connections that users make on this platform feel very real, and this seems to be a constant across all user segments, as even trolls end up forming lasting friendships on SL. That Linden Lab should ship a Mobile app should provide peace of mind to users who already use third-parties to connect to the grid, in terms of account security and user experience. Long story short, Mobile will drive innovation, growth, and keep friends together. All for zero risk, because current customers can continue to use SL on the Desktop. It's either Win-Win or Win-Neutral. We should all be for this.

  27. I've been working as a host at different venues for going on 10 years (ish) or so and make an ok income with that. I've also exotic danced in the past(never escorted) and made pretty decent money doing that part time, so I could do that again if push came to shove. And I also have my own in world store (not sure if I'd be able to shuffle things up to the MP or not) that makes me a modest income. That and the stipend is enough to pay tier and membership I were frugal enough. I don't think I'd really want for much in lindens, though I might probably sell off part of my parcel to cut tier down some and to make a chunk of money. I've got a pretty nice spot that would fetch a nice amount.

  30. There is no indication of any new theme being developed, 1024 or 2048, up in the SSP zone. If that continues into July, I would think it unlikely that we'd see any new theme in 2024. The only activity I see there is an occasional dot in SSP Conspiracy III - this MIGHT indicate work on a new home style for an existing theme, or it may just be someone working on a bug. There've been no hints from Patch, as his Flickr, X (Twitter), and Discord accounts remain inactive/deleted, and the planned Q&A during the Belli Anniversary quietly did not happen. I'm hoping for some news during SL's birthday in June. Inworld, Patch & other Lindens are attending official Linden events, but are not very visible in any informal channels, including Belli chat. Work on the Ranch & Med coastlines continues in fits and starts. Not sure if the mole staffing is what it once was ... perhaps they are off working on the birthday or other events.

  32. Yeah... Google's AI... That's the one that when asked for pictures of Vikings, only showed black kings with dreadlocks. That's the one they had to withdraw and rework, because it lectured people for asking for pictures of happy white people, telling users t was morally wrong for white people to be shown as happy. For some reason that caused some less than positive feedback. Good to know it's just as fubared as ever, just n a new and utterly random direction. And people wonder why I don't like Artificial Idiocy Spambots in SL.

  36. People hate Fake Money Crypto-Crap Not Effing True Financial Fraud Scam tokens backed by Blag-Chain, because there are only 3 kinds of people involved with it. !. The scammy pirates who start crypto crap fake money schemes, usually with the intention of puffing up the value with Not-Effing-True, to sucker in fools, then they stage a "rug-pull", and walk off with hundreds of thousands of dollars, other peoples dollars. 2. People deliberately trying to hide money, often illicit money from the Tax man and law enforcement. 3. Idiots who actually believe all that BS from type 1 people, about how investing in Crypto-Crap means you can have a nice income without ever having to work again. People who believe that RIGHT UPTO the "rug-pull" when their "investment vanishes in a puff of BS scented smoke. 21 years. Certainly not because of a lack of Fake Money Crypto-Crap Not Effing True Financial Fraud Scam Tokens backed by Blag-Chain. Fitted mesh, Bento, Bom, Animesh, EEP, PBR, pathfinding, all kinds of things have changed, just not the lack of Fake Money Crypto Crap Not Effing True Financial Fraud Scam Tokens backed by Blag-Chain. Well since you asked so nicely. You're WRONG. Oh and for the record, most crypto-crap Blag-Chain has transaction charges, such as "gas" many of which run from $150 to $3000 per transaction depending on when you put it through. Does that answer your question as to why sane people hate that crypto-crap, and also why more and more governments are cracking down on it.
