The redirect command removes your ability to speak in local chat at all. Not the most subtle "spy feature."

Just because you have a collar that has RLV features and is able to listen to your chat (which I'm not trying to deny at all), that doesn't mean that RLV is the one doing the listening. I don't understand why this simple clarification is so difficult to understand that you must try to claim otherwise.

Yes, you can absolutely spy on local chat, no matter where you are on the grid. All you need for this is llListen and llInstantMessage. These are purely LSL features, not RLV.

I'm not claiming anything aside from the fact that the only time I've seen this function was when I, personally, wore an rlv collar so that is ALL I'm speaking about.  Whatever the collar uses to listen is irrelevant to me.  How is that so hard to comprehend?

Of course.  RLV is just an add-on to LSL, which is the only scripting language that you can use in SL.  The point Wulfie is making here is that you don't need RLV to do this simple trick of listening to and redirecting local chat.  You can do it very easily without RLV. It's just that RLV compresses some common operations into a customized shorthand form that saves you having to write out all the LSL code each time.

I understand what was said.  But that is what the majority of people use to listen in on someone else's local chat.  Wouldn't I need to accept and wear something like the item listed on MP in order for you to listen?  The whole point was...you could get a free collar and get the same functionality and not spend 2500L to catch your partner cheating.

It probably doesn't matter is someone gets a freebie collar, is dumb enough to pay L$2500 for a script, or gets some freebie scripts and drops them in an object to give to the cheating person. 

Even is said cheating person wears the object/collar, they are likely cheating with an alt account that is unknown to the person trying to catch them.

Oh, I have no idea what "the majority" of people use, but no, you wouldn't need to accept and wear an RLV collar in order to listen.  For example, DJs in lots of clubs in SL use a simple "microphone" repeater system to broadcast whatever they say over a larger area than normal chat allows. The few lines of LSL code that go into a device like that can simply broadcast on a private channel that you can listen to with a HUD.  A beginning scripter can write that sort of code. Anyone who spends $L2500 on a gadget like that is being fleeced.

I understood him. I know it can be done without RLV. Only point I was making is that they're both right and they're not quite on the same page. Almost but not quite and almost only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades, as the old saying goes.

I understood also.  My use of rlv collars was my only reference as to the listen function.  How it is implemented wasn't what I was talking about just that it's in there.

Yea, we had someone do this to us years back.. We found out they had planted one of these objects and had been listening to what had been going on for quite some time..

So we decided to fake some things like relationships and all kinds of stuff.. one time was all of us standing around this thing acting like everyone in the place was having a big orgy..

Not technically.  The TOS forbids sharing conversations in chat, but not listening to them.  If you were using the information to stalk the person or were posting the conversation in the forums or your group, you'd be in trouble, but not just for listening to it.

Yes, the best sex for me was when I loved the person.  Nothing else can compare to that so casual sex I can take it or leave...it's not so great, so I leave it.  I reserve sex for rl love and relationship this is the main reason I'm not interested in cybersex and it feels intrusive in my own home and space.  I don't want someone I don't know on the internet getting too friendly with me that they want to be in my personal real life space.
