More obviously, though, what about a violent or sexist rap song appearing on the What Are You Listening to Now thread? Or any protest song? "This Is America"?

Descision on that comes down to :Does the song come with comment to rub more salt into it, or is it in sneaky reply to a comment elsewhere, or is it just unrelated  music.

One always would hope people can be rational adults. Not going to happen, but we can hope they learn to damned well turn their other cheek sometimes.

Please do something about those turning every thread into a contentious political discussion. Yes we can block them, but then threads get confusing. I am tired of reading about the damned Confedeate Flag.

I' m sick of seeing your personalized tag that says R*E*S*I*S*T. It's blatantly political. I think whichever Linden you complained to should make you change it to something non-political

I think that Pam means those who politicise everything in attempts to preach the gospel of their political beliefs.

Banning political discussion would work as long as breaking the rule really did attract suspensions.

So, let the mods make a new rule, "absolutely NO political posts"

And that includes making snide comments about America AND attacking President Trump.

Because rest assured, if that becomes the rule, I'll report every leftist post  I see

There are plenty from both sides that do, I suspect most will call only however for the ban on the "spam" of those they disagree with politically while praising the "spam" of those they agree with as rightful comment. I said it in another thread. If you want to talk politics or religion here you should create a thread clearly marked for the purpose so those that do not want to read either can avoid the thread and only those interested need participate

If you look at my "political" posts, almost every one of them is in response to something someone else posted first.

I con't recall they requested 'religion' not be discussed, but they did say 'politics'. I could be mistaken..

Some of us might be offended about you pushing your religious views in our faces.

If a Christian was doing what you do, You and others in here would be up in arms about a Christian shoving their faith down your throats.

I think that Kanry's comment here points to a danger.

I have made a real effort to keep the Dulce et Decorum Est thread relatively "unpolitical": read the OP.  My choice of poem is hardly very contentious in RL: it's a very well known poem that appears a lot in memorial and remembrance ceremonies.

BUT . . . there is no question that my choice of this poem rather than, say, McCrae's "In Flanders Fields" is political, as Phorumites correctly notes. So too would be the choice of McCrae's poem: on some, indeed many, issues it is pretty much impossible not to be at least implicitly political.

Do we really want to ban anything that can be read as political?

Be careful what you wish for: we may find ourselves unable to talk about anything here other than how to debug dance HUDs.

As has been stated many many times this IS strictly a forum for second life issues.

Even the general section is supposed to be about SECOND LIFE topics that don't fit under any other heading.

How about if it's not about something inside Second Life DON'T start a thread about it.

I think you'd probably have a much more difficult time living with an injunction about not posting anything solely to do with RL than would I, Phorumities. Again, be careful what you wish for.

As for my thread . . . well, the mods will do with it what they choose to do.

We are all SL residents, certainly. But what is most important, and what actually brings us back again and again to connect with others here is our shared humanity.

I don't think it's out of place to acknowledge here on important occasions the most fundamental values that we share as humans: that life is better than death, happiness better than pain, and peace better than war. I am pretty sure that you share those values too.

Tommy's guideline is

Quote

You may also not post regarding subjects that do not relate to Second Life except in the General forum discussion board.

Clunky wording, but the General forum is allowed to contain non-SL topics.

Heck,I'm just gonna post it so nobody has to leave..hehehehe

When those threads turn political and start to get a bit on the angry argumentative side..I'd be looking at the other rules more than I would the Off Topic one..

Because if they ban someone in  here ,they ban them in world also..

So please everyone be careful..They are only locking threads today..I hope to never see them get fed up to where they take it to the next level because of things getting too volatile for them.

We're all in this together..Can't we all just get a scone? hehehehe

Ya know,I've never really had a scone before to be honest..O.o

Introduction

These guidelines cover Resident participation on our Second Life community pages, which include the Second Life Blogs, Forums, Answers, Bug Tracker, User Groups, and the Knowledge Base. They are intended to help all Residents have a constructive and enjoyable conversation.

The Second Life Blogs, Forums, Bug Tracker, User Groups, Answers, and the Knowledge Base are places for you, the Residents of Second Life, to discuss ideas, experiences, and questions, and to share what you’ve learned about Second Life with each other and with us. We want to foster an honest and open exchange of ideas on our community pages; to do that, we want to encourage all participants to maintain an atmosphere of courtesy and respect for others at all times. Creating a constructive place for conversation will help us build a strong, better informed community in Second Life, and make both our communication channels and our world a more supportive and engaging place for all.

In addition to adhering to the Second Life Terms of Service, Residents must also refrain from the activities listed below. These Activities are Not Permitted on the Second Life Community Sites:

  • Vulgarity, Profanity, and Sexually Explicit Content: No name calling, expletives, or any language that is offensive, pornographic, or sexually explicit. Profanity, hate speech, or threats of violence are not permissible.
  • Harassment: Harassment of any kind will not be tolerated. Harassment can include text or images that contain racist, threatening, abusive or hateful material.
  • Personal Information: Sharing someone else’s personal information—of any kind—is not allowed. Disclosing another Resident’s real-world identity, contact information, or the text of interpersonal communications (chat, email, IM) is not allowed.
  • Nudity or Adult Content: Keep the content of your postings “General” as provided in the Maturity Guidelines. Postings that do not comply with the “General” rating may be removed.
  • Spamming, Solicitation and Advertising: Spamming is not allowed. This includes aggressive self-promotion. No advertising or promotion of specific Second Life merchants, Marketplace listings, products, or services, unless the forum area is specifically for the buying or selling of Second Life products or services, for example, a “for sale” or “wanted” forum. Do not reference other websites offering any product or service.
Note: It is OK to have a signature line with a link to your Second Life profile or information about your Second Life business.
  • Interpersonal Disputes or Personal Negative Commentary: If you have a personal disagreement, do not post about it on the Second Life community pages. Residents who have personal differences have other channels of communication available to them — private messaging in the forums, IM within Second Life, or chatting within Second Life.
  • No Flaming: "Flames" are hostile or disruptive posts, or messages intended to incite an angry response. Spirited discussion and constructive disagreement are welcome, but name-calling and airing of grievances are not appropriate in our discussion areas. We will also not tolerate any post that encourages others to violate any policy of Linden Lab
  • Off Topic Content: Please keep your commentary relevant to the discussion and within the format that the forum, board or question and answer area require. (For example, in the Answers section, please follow the Q&A format of the discussion.) Content that is blatantly off topic is not permitted. You may also not post regarding subjects that do not relate to Second Life except in the General forum discussion board.
  • Abuse of Moderation or Moderators: Please honor our moderation process and the decisions that come out of it; they are being made in order to provide you with a productive environment for conversations about Second Life. We prohibit abuse of our moderation process, including the following:
    • Posts that discuss or re-post material that has been removed or locked by a moderator
    • Posts questioning a moderator’s decision
    • Posts that discuss the status of any Resident account (e.g., on hold, suspended, etc.)
    • Frivolous or malicious use of the abuse report feature

Report inappropriate content for moderator review

Moderating a discussion site is a daunting task; our forums alone see in excess of 10,000 posts per week. You can help by reporting abuse when you spot it. If you see a post you feel violates the Community Participation Guidelines, or our Terms of Service, then please click the Report Inappropriate Content link that appears in each post, and let us know why you feel the post is inappropriate.

We moderate at our discretion

We evaluate posts on a case-by-case basis and take into account the severity of the conduct and any history of past violations. Although we will make reasonable efforts to take into consideration the context and general sentiment of the blog or forum discussions, the actions taken (or not taken) by Linden Lab and our moderators are at our sole discretion, and we may act without warning or explanation. We provide the discussion areas of our sites as a service to Residents, and we will take the actions we deem appropriate to keep our sites a productive and enjoyable environment for all Residents.

I think people from the USA call them biscuits. Although scones are eaten with jam (jelly) and cream, rather then gravy (eww)

For the rest of the world a biscuit is what people from the USA call a cookie.

The problem with this is that innocent people get caught in the cross fire, and/or whole threads get nuked.

I miss the days when people were mature enough to just ignore stuff.

Sadly to some its not good enough that they don't hear it they want to stop others hearing things they disagree with too

While we don't eat cookies with jams (unless they come with but then they aren't really cookies then), jellies and preserves we do eat biscuits with them. And butter too. Real butter, not margarine.

And it isn't just any gravy. It must be country gravy which is rather peppery. A bit too warm for my taste buds. ;)

It is plain simple: If mods would remove political propaganda comments on sight no one would feel the urge to correct the ramblers. But right now they let it escalate and then LOCK it!!! Problem here: the nonsense would stand unopposed after the lock...

Basically the current way of handling it encourages flamewars 9_9
