I would suggest there is an easy solution merely block the most egregious offenders. The trouble with the "lets ask the mods" to do something approach is you ask them to deal with those you feel are offending, then the next person sees your success and provide their own list of offenders, and the next and before you know it only newbies can post on the forum and then only one before someone calls the mods. Do you mean banning them from the forum permanently because they contribute nothing of value and plenty of conflict? Or maybe threatening to ban them for that reason? If you mean either of those, I completely agree with you. There are a very small number of people here (one hand would be too many fingers) who really ought to be kept out of the forum. There are plenty from both sides that do, I suspect most will call only however for the ban on the "spam" of those they disagree with politically while praising the "spam" of those they agree with as rightful comment. I said it in another thread. I'll use SL continents in these examples, There are SOME places where it may be considered acceptable such as events(I.E. stating the event is about Heterocera politics), but if someone pops into a thread and starts saying stuff like "Zindra is best and Sansara is evil censoring land!", the BEST solution is: Report them, state that it is derailing and trying to bring up politics where it isn't welcome. Ignore them, don't fan the flames. Continue on with the current discussion as if the person never posted that. IF and ONLY IF someone tries to engage, politely ask "Can we please stay on topic, I don't want the thread to be locked." As a moderator on another site, I would personally interpret bringing up politics like that as "Flaming" or "Off topic" content, as seen in the below thingy that appears when I paste forum posts. I have no doubt that Linden Lab's forum moderators would recognize these actions as flaming/off topic as well. However, I would like to mention, people DO get banned or at least suspended, we just cannot see it. Forum suspensions and bans are handled the same way as if they were done in-world. They won't say if someone is banned or suspended, or why someone was banned. This is for the same reasons as they are in-world, privacy. While I understand it could be frustrating not to know if actions are being taken or not, or why someone was banned, but it prevents a lot of drama down the line. While transparency reports are great, I truly believe this is the best solution for such a platform like Second Life. I have made a real effort to keep the Dulce et Decorum Est thread relatively "unpolitical": read the OP. My choice of poem is hardly very contentious in RL: it's a very well known poem that appears a lot in memorial and remembrance ceremonies. BUT . . . there is no question that my choice of this poem rather than, say, McCrae's "In Flanders Fields" is political, as Phorumites correctly notes. So too would be the choice of McCrae's poem: on some, indeed many, issues it is pretty much impossible not to be at least implicitly political. Do we really want to ban anything that can be read as political?
