The Second Life event will feature a four-region stage where 200 people can come together to dance, surrounded by an area of art installations, an arena for poetry, a stage for dance performances, informational exhibits and free gifts. On Wednesday, February 14th starting from 12:30pm SLT join Linden Lab employees and Second Life Residents on the Bellisseria Valentine's Love Train! The Moles will be running trolleys down through the Log and Victorian regions of the Bellisseria Railway. The primary departure point is stationed in the Welcome Hub Linden Homes Demo and ends in Clayton Ravine, but Residents can hop on at any point on the rail line as the trolleys go by. The 30-minute ride ends with a teleporter that will take Residents directly to Dunk & Hug a Linden or Mole Event! Learn more at second.life/lovetrain2024

For this week's Music Made in Second Life video, we featured Spiralo.

Spiralo

“Spiralo” is a virtual cultural complex produced by the noise-classical music project 'Tia Rungray'. The space will include a sound installation hall, a gallery, a café, and a shopping floor. The name "Spiralo" means "spiral" in Esperanto, and the name comes from the fact that the floors are arranged in a spiral pattern, inspired by the image of everyday life and art blending together in virtual life. The idea is to make it easier to enjoy high-quality art activities in Second Life and to make visitors more aware of their close relationship to life. It functions to make everyday activities such as watching, listening, dressing, talking and photography more artistic. It offers you a way to enjoy the time and space in which you can relax in everyday life. As a cultural hub for contemporary art in Second Life, “Spiralo” hopes to continue to create a cultural scene.

The Citadel - The Legion Chronicles

The Citadel is a staging point for the Legion. An alliance of worlds that have come together to set up a new system of government to unify the worlds in the galaxy. With no system in place bandits and pirates have taken over space but as the Legion grows in strength, the outlaw factions are being pushed back to the outer reaches of the galaxy. The Citadel was a supermassive station built by the republic but left abandoned during the fall. The Bellisserian Bureau of Bureaucracy is a volunteer group of Bellisserians issuing driving licenses, vehicle registrations, and passports to Bellisseria residents, along with other services. They are celebrating their 2nd anniversary at the Bellisseria Fairgrounds from January 23-31, 2022. There will be many builds and events for visitors to enjoy. The event stamp for the Bellisseria Passport will be the 300th issued. There are also stamps to collect from buoys at sea on the Boat Rally at their opening party and from Belli's bureaucrats and diplomats.

The Peale

Happy new year and welcome to the first Second Life Destination Guide highlights post for 2022! I thought for the new year since people are just wrapping up the winter attractions, I'd focus on some of the Linden Lab maintained destinations on the guide. We even have a new category for them called Linden Destinations. We've slowly been adding all the different areas that the moles have been working on, including the community areas around the Linden Home regions in Bellisseria. They are all open to the public, even if you are not a Bellisseria Resident. You can also head over to Portal Park and complete some of the quests and find new games and adventures!

Fantasy Community Center

This public community center is for the Bellisseria Fantasy Homes regions. Surrounded by lush landscaping, this masterpiece of design is a feast for the eyes.

Campwich Lodge

Campwich Lodge is a public community center for the Camper Linden Homes regions. Located in a secluded rural area, this lodge has many places to hang out, relax and socialize with others. It is right across from Campwich Station, another public community area where you can rez your locomotives on the rails in designated rezz zones and drive them through the park. Sit back and enjoy the beautiful landscaping and the calming waterfalls.

Die Betrunken Maus (The Drunken Mouse)

Die Betrunken Maus is the crown jewel of the Bellisseria Chalet regions. Virtual beer is on tap 24/7 and last call is at never o'clock. Set in the peaks along a winding river, this alpine-style inn serves the public for meetups and socializing.

Randelsham Treehouse

Randelsham Treehouse is the community center for the Bellisseria Log Homes regions. Surrounded by stunning natural scenery this treehouse has lots of seating including hanging chairs on the balcony and a large separate deck with even more seating. There is also a ridable bubble rezzer to float around the area, a rez zone on the water, several zip lines, and a train depot next to the SLRR. Hang out, explore, and make new friends!

Java Sprockets

Grab a cup of fresh coffee or a bite to eat at Java Sprockets, a beachside coffee shop. Out front is a Rez Zone where you can pick up a free bicycle and enjoy a ride around Bellisseria. Everyone is welcome and everything is free! Java Sprockets is a community area in Bellisseria that offers all a place to hang out and chat.

Last week I said I would offer an update about the uplift process of the Destination Guide every Friday. As of about 5 minutes ago, the process is complete and we finally have access! We are slowly updating the entries now. Since we haven’t had access to it for almost a month, we have quite the backlog and it will take some time to catch up. Hopefully, by next Friday I will have a long list of new destinations for you to explore.

Second Life Endowment For The Arts

The Second Life Endowment For The Arts (SLEA) is opening with a bang at midnight SLT 1/1/2021. Use the SLEA experience to visit 9 regions of diverse creativity representing the many levels of virtual art in SL, including 2 & 3D, Theater, Literature, Visual, Machinima, Art Education, and Media Art. The Second Life Endowment for the Arts is having its 1st Annual Celebration of the Arts Grand Opening this weekend. The festivities start at 1pm PT on Saturday and will continue past 7pm PT on Sunday. Check the full schedule on their blog.

C.L.E.A.R. at Janus Gallery III

You are cordially invited to Janus Gallery III on Saturday, January 23rd from 12pm-2pm slt for the opening of Asperix Asp’s new exhibit “Crystal Light Engine Advanced Research.” You can just call it CLEAR for short. Although, reality itself may not seem as clear as it once did when you stop to consider his works. Maximillion Kleene and Jack Slade will sing live, making for an exhilarating afternoon of art and music. The exhibit will be open until February 24th.

The Science Circle

The Science Circle is an NGO since July 3rd, 2017, and an alliance of scientists, educators, and students. They gather a few times a month with their student groups in Second Life for field trips and presentations. For more information, be sure to visit sciencecircle.org

Have you noticed? The web version of the Destination Guide now has a new look - and we want your feedback on how we can continue to improve Second Life’s leading directory of cool and interesting places to explore! 

The latest version of the Destination Guide offers a modern design refresh (the first since 2010!), while also adding some useful new features that enable easier discovery of Second Life events and experiences. Web visitors may welcome the addition of a much-requested Search bar so that you can better seek and find the places that interest you, while category and search result pages now also have a “Sort by” option in the upper-right corner that allows users to filter the directory by “Newest” entries and alphabetically (A-Z or Z-A). Mobile users will notice that the Destination Guide is now much easier to browse and explore while on the go – which may come in handy to accompany our forthcoming Mobile Viewer.

Want to share a Destination on your blog and/or view it on the overall Second Life Map? Logged-in users on Secondlife.com can click the three dots on the detail page to find these additional options.

Work is continuing as we seek to add even more improvements to the web-based Destination Guide including the ability to see and sort by real-time population counts, while also enhancing access to the full Destination Guide within the Second Life Viewer.

The latest changes are a far cry from the early origins of the Destination Guide, which go all the way back to late 2005 when a small Developer Showcase section on Secondlife.com editorially highlighted a handful of noteworthy community builds and initiatives. That section soon morphed into Showcase, a small directory highlighting the best in Arts & Culture, Fashion and Music. In 2010, Showcase formally transitioned into the full-fledged Destination Guide directory with about 16 top-level categories before expanding over the next decade to include closer to 50 categories and many more sub-categories across a wide variety of genres spanning everything from A to Z (or Anime to Zombies, if you will).
