Join us on Thursday, November 15th for a Second Life Town Hall event featuring Grumpity, Oz, and Patch Linden.

We put out a call last month for questions, and they will be answering as many of those questions as we can get to, starting at 10 am SLT tomorrow.  See you there!

Drop by and enjoy the show live at one of three following Regions.

Animesh is Here!

The long wait is over: Project Animesh has been released Grid Wide! As of today the default viewer download and all regions on the grid support Animesh.

Animesh, first announced a year ago (!), allows independent objects to use rigged mesh and animations, just as you see today with mesh avatars. This means that you can now have wild animals, pets, vehicles, hair, zombies …. The possibilities are in your hands! We’ve created a Wiki which outlines how you can begin playing with Animesh. If you are a Premium Account, you will be able to attach two Animesh attachments instead of one.  Note: You will need to be on an Animesh Enabled Viewer to see Animesh objects work correctly; if you are using a third party viewer they can let you know when support will be available.

A huge “Thank you!” goes out to those Second Life Residents who participated in our year-long Beta, both in the forums and at our inworld User Group Meetings .

We’re can’t wait to see what you will create and share with the rest of the community using these new capabilities.  To help everyone find new animesh content, we’ve added a category on the Marketplace for it: Animated Objects

We look forward to your comments and bug reports in Jira.

We realize many of us are still recovering from the Halloween holiday, but the truth is - the rest of the year will creep upon us like the creepiest of Halloween creatures. Winter is coming...and that means it’s time for cheerful greetings, the spirit of giving, and lots of festive music!

Like last year, we’re winding up for a winter inworld shopping event - and we’re now looking for Merchants who would like to participate!

Our last big inworld shopping event for SL15B was a great way for us to see how big these events can be - and we’re adding in some extra space for shoppers, to make sure access to all the steals and deals is much better.

This event, which opens on December 17th, 2018 and runs through January 4th, 2019, is an opportunity to bring a ton of new customers to your brand, offer some of you best items, and celebrate the holiday season in a huge shopping event across several Regions.

We are looking for merchants willing to offer a discount on some of their items (think after Thanksgiving and Cyber Monday deals!) and provide a small non-exclusive gift to holiday shoppers.

If this sounds like something you would be interested in, please fill out this form as soon as possible and no later than Tuesday, November 27th, 2018. The cut off will be at 12:01 am (SLT) on Wednesday  the 28th of November.

We are excited to host this event and look forward to putting it together!

Linden Lab

Happy Thursday everyone!  We hope everyone had a great Halloween and had their fill of tricks and treats.

We’re excited to have more marketplace updates to share with everyone - like a pumpkin full of the best candy, it brings you a good mix of fixes and features.

We’ve added three new Categories to Marketplace:

  • Gachas
  • Anthropomorphic
  • Animated Objects

We’ve also added “Anime” to the list of Marketplace communities.

  • Marketplace order confirmation mail should include a product link and seller data. So it will from now on.
  • "Items per page" kept resetting to 12 in wishlists.  Annoying!
  • Any search field will now display an x on the right side once the user has started typing.  This will allow you to quickly remove/delete all text in the field instead of having to backspace out the information.
  • Merchants can no longer review their own listings.  Obviously, yours are the best.
  • Store favorites used to say "Sold by [current user]" instead of the store owner.  That’s silly!
  • Merchant dashboard Report pages were missing the store banner
  • Updates to search for more precise results
  • Fixed searching within "manage listings"
  • Marketplace review helpfulness rating buttons were broken, but we unbroke them.
  • We will now notify a marketplace shop owner if items have their rating changed
  • Marketplace profile - some incorrect truncation of Policies box content was going on, so we put a stop to it
  • You could not preview listing with no price, but now - you can.
  • Buying item for users not in the marketplace would throw an error, but that’s fixed.
  • New Marketplace wishlist didn’t work in other languages than English.  Wishlist Joy to the world!
  • Added a helpful popup for the keywords field, which describes Boolean search functionality, so more people can discover it.

Additionally, we’ve started cleaning up some older listings. Only merchants who have not logged in in five years were affected, and only those items which have not sold within two years. If you find that your listings have unlisted, please file a Jira and we’ll look into it presently.

Thank you all for making Second Life great!  We look forward to hearing from you.

Linden Lab

There are a lot of people working behind the scenes on Second Life, creating new features, improving performance, keeping things running smoothly, and performing incredible feats of troubleshooting and resolving issues when it doesn’t.

That is why we have invited Grumpity Linden (Director of Product), Oz Linden ( Senior Director or Engineering) and Patch Linden ( Senior Director or Product Operations) to participate in our next Town Hall - taking place November 15th from 10 to 11 am SLT.

Collectively, these three have over 28 (!) years of experience working on Second Life and work closely with all the Second Life teams to continue to improve this platform that we’ve all come to love.

They are some of the biggest stakeholders in the direction of the product development roadmap each year, and know the product inside and out!

If you have a question that you would like to ask these Lindens, please take a moment to post it in the Community Forum thread “Town Hall Meeting with Grumpity, Oz, and Patch Linden - November 15” in advance of the Town Hall. Questions will be selected from all submissions made prior to November 9th, so be sure to get your question in before then!

Don’t forget to mark your calendars for November 15 to see if your question is selected. On that day, you can join us live for the Town Hall meeting. Location will be publicized closer to the event - stay tuned!

We’ll see you inworld soon!

If you’ve been in Second Life for awhile, you are probably familiar with the MadPea Productions brand. In fact, back in 2013, the Drax Files covered and chronicled what they were up to and here - five years later - they are creating even bigger and more interactive games within Second Life!

In the latest episode of Drax Files: World Makers, Draxtor Despres revisits Madpea and Madpea Production’s Queen Pea - Kiana Writer.

Just in time for Halloween - this episode dives into the dark themes of many of the MadPea products, including Mad World - an amusement park with interactive games, rides, an escape room, and plenty of photogenic spots to get your creep on.

Dive into the newest edition of the Drax Files and watch the video here, or watch below.

Are the rumors of legendary grid explorer Magellan's demise wildly exaggerated? Is his disappearance part of an elaborate conspiracy straight from the pages of a novel? Just how far will Ruth’s wrath go?

Tyrah has discovered that many years ago, Magellan accidentally broke Ruth's magic amulet and instead of coming clean about his mistake, he hid the pieces all over Linden Realms, and then promptly left for an extended ‘vacation’. There has to be some link between this event, Ruth’s rage, and Magellan’s untimely disappearance!

As new life springs from the once charred remains of Linden Realms, an all-new action-packed adventure awaits. Can you help find the pieces and put the amulet back together? It won’t be easy - you'll need to complete several quests and collect crystals but the rewards are worth it!

Find out everything you need to know to HUD up and get one step closer to solving the mystery of Magellan and Ruth's bitter feud by visiting the Linden Realms Wiki, and get your quest started now!

Lastly, we are looking forward to sharing the details of how we built this with you.  Stay tuned.

Linden Lab has blocked the third party Android client “IM to Secondlife”; it may no longer be used to access Second Life. We did so due to serious violations of the Policy on Third Party Viewers relating to user account security and user privacy.

If you have ever used that viewer, Linden Lab strongly suggests that you secure your Second Life account, beginning with updating your password on the Second Life account page:

https://accounts.secondlife.com/change_password/

We may need to temporarily hold some accounts in connection with this incident. Please ensure that your contact information is up to date and verify your email address: https://accounts.secondlife.com/change_email/

As a reminder, although you may connect to Second Life using software released by a third-party developer,  as explained in our Privacy Policy and Terms and Conditions, you do so at your own risk. Linden Lab provides a Policy on Third-Party Viewers to promote a positive and predictable experience for all Second Life Residents. Extra caution must be taken with third-party viewers that are not in the Viewer Directory: they have either declined to self-certify their compliance with Linden Lab policies or have been refused for noncompliance with the policies.

Gather ‘round the campfire, Residents, it’s storytime.

Campsites and horror movies have a long-standing relationship. Young adults find themselves getting into all kinds of trouble when they venture out into the woods, spirits linger on amongst the ominous trees and misty moonlit forest floors. Ancient curses are unleashed from nearby burial grounds, and mysterious beasts stalk the woods at night.

Did you hear that noise? What was it? A few years ago, at a campsite very much like this, a storm rolled in on some unsuspecting Residents, and they were never heard from again! At night, they say you can sometimes hear their voices and see things moving among the trees … but whatever you do … Don’t. Go. Into. The. Woods.

Premium members should drop by one of the Premium kiosks to grab the newest Premium gift - the Haunted Campsite. This is a fully interactive scene straight out of an 80s horror movie. You can control so many different elements, including weather, bats, music, and much more. Customize your tombstones, seek some relief from the unrelenting elements in your very own tent (though it won’t protect you from machete-wielding maniacs or hungry monsters!), and enjoy candy apples and scary stories around the roaring campfire.

There are so many options, it’s almost terrifying!

Haunted Mansion - Reanimated!

Who says horror series can’t get better and better? The bone-chilling Haunted Tour is back again - and this fifth installment offers some new twists! Hop in a coffin and enjoy the wild ride through the twisted mind of madness. There is a rule in horror that you’re more likely to survive if you travel with a friend - so face your fears, grab your favorite squad of fiend-fighting friends and follow the Halloween path at Portal Park to the abyss of oblivion at the Haunted Halloween Tour.

Glytches Get Spooky

Snapshot_004s.jpg

If you keep your jeepers creepers peepers peeled during Haunted tour, you may spot some new Halloween-themed Glytches. While the Glytches at the mansion are trapped like eternally damned spirits, you can collect them at the Tyrah and the Curse of the Magical Glytches game and add them to your ever-growing Glytch collection.

Happy Halloween, Residents!

UPDATE: We’re looking forward to the Creepy Crawl this year, however due to unforeseen circumstances, there will be no costume contest. We encourage everyone to still come out in their best costumes to honor the spirit of Halloween!

In light of this adjustment, mention of the costume contest in the body of the blog post below will be removed.

********************************************************************

Are you ready to have a screaming good time with fellow Residents - all in the name of the spirit of Halloween? While this holiday may not be shared the world over, it is a tradition in Second Life to dress up in your Halloween best and come out haunting for the annual Second Life Creepy Crawl!

It’s going to be a monster mash-up at our Creepy Crawl - where we hop from venue to venue and enjoy some thrilling conversation and fun.

We are in search of venues to host our stops on the crawl. This year’s Creepy Crawl will happen on Halloween (Wednesday, October 31st) from 10 am - 2 pm (SLT/PT).

If you’d like to host a stop along the Creepy Crawl, own a spot that will be decked out for the holiday, and don’t mind if a parade of Residents and Lindens come through, then you might be just what the witch doctor ordered. We’re looking for spots that have entertainment (we like to dance around in our costumes!), are appropriate for general and moderate audiences, and can handle a crowd.

Here’s how to submit your venue for consideration:

  1. Make sure your place is listed in the Destination Guide - here’s how to submit.

  2. Hop over to this form and fill it out before October 15th - we’ll start selecting the venues after that!

  3. Keep an eye out for an email and/or notecard after the 18th to let you know if your venue was selected.

We’re excited to visit as many Halloween spots a possible - and can’t wait to have some spook-tacular fun!

With SL15B behind us (and SL16B to look forward to!) we thought it was time to have another Town Hall, and give Residents a chance to ask about Second Life and hear the latest news on what is being worked on and planned in Second Life. We’ll also share specific updates on our product development roadmap, as discussed earlier this year.

Linden Lab CEO Ebbe Altberg will be appearing at a  “Town Hall” chat session on Thursday, September 13th 2018 at 9:30 a.m. (SLT/Pacific). This is your chance to interact directly with Ebbe as he discusses 2018 and beyond.

Got a question you want to ask? Post it in the Community Forum thread “September 2018 - A Conversation with Linden Lab CEO Ebbe Altberg” in advance of the Town Hall. Questions will be selected from all submissions made prior to Sept. 10, so make sure to weigh in now!

Don’t forget to mark your calendars for Sept. 13 to see if your question is selected. On that day, you can join us live for the Town Hall meeting. Location will be publicized closer to the event - stay tuned!
