New FS Viewer...6.4.13...Looks Like BLEEEEEEEP!
Solar Legion replied to FairreLilette's topic in General Discussion Forum
@FairreLilette: The above is a section taken directly out of Lyssa's response to you. You might want to try that first debug setting. -
Two new limited edition last names
Solar Legion replied to LittleMe Jewell's topic in General Discussion Forum
People have indeed bought a Name Change - to see this you just have to, you know, pay attention. -
Traffic manipulation, does LL care?
Solar Legion replied to bobsknief Orsini's topic in General Discussion Forum
Oh they do actually go through Abuse Reports. The trouble there is that not all of them are properly/accurately filled out/filed nor is the action taken visible to the one who filed the Report in most circumstances. -
Traffic manipulation, does LL care?
Solar Legion replied to bobsknief Orsini's topic in General Discussion Forum
Why should they care? Traffic has not been a truly relevant Search metric in quite some time, despite what some may want you to believe. An individual user may (foolishly) pay attention to the traffic metric but the actual Search algorithm? Not so much. Being brutally honest? No one should be caring about the Traffic metric. -
Oh for .... Enough with the narrative that this forum is at all helping to spread mis/disinformation. No one outside of Second Life users will be reading these posts. Period. Sit down. That out of the way ... Those pretending to present more information/an alternate view? You can sit down as well. You're doing no such thing.

Low Frame Rates/Graphic Settings?
Solar Legion replied to charlottethegiantess's topic in General Second Life Tech Discussion
Can't believe I missed the post Jenna quoted above .... There is no valid reason to have your Draw Distance set that high. None. Ever. No, not even when using a vehicle. No, not even taking snapshots. There is also no reason to keep your LOD set that high and in fact Firestorm (at the least) is coded to drop the value to that on next log in if you use the Debug menu to set it higher. The only reason that is still an option is to prevent some users griping about it. As far as getting above 60 to 80 FPS? That's nice. It is also not needed/irrelevant for Second Life. FPS above a point does nothing whatsoever and any "improvement" you claim to see simply does not exist. -

Uninspired for those two ... Should have been UwU OwO and OwO UwU respectively. -
Future of the metaverse, and all that
Solar Legion replied to animats's topic in General Discussion Forum
The Chair of a Board of Directors is not the same as the CEO of a given company. You can have both slots filled by the same person but the two are not the same position. Further, even the most cursory of searches on the matter will include a link to a Linden Lab press release, at which point all you need do is go to their main About Page. -

You are correct. -
You could also use Lutris, which allows you to use system level Proton (Valve's fork of WINE, much less setup) libraries (if you've installed them, there's also a fork of those made by Glorious Eggroll that often has upstream patches).

Mmm, yes .... because oh so many people will be looking to the Second Life Forum for their information needs on the Pandemic and treatments .... They're not providing a single thing. At all. No one external to Second Life is going to come here for their information nor is this forum any sort of news source. You may believe otherwise - that does not make it true. You can choose to refute the misinformation as it comes along (among other 'responses') but do kindly try not to pretend this tiny little space has any real importance to the world at large. It doesn't.

Firestorm - animation degradation
Solar Legion replied to Felix Adamski's topic in Second Life Viewer
Avatar Imposters will affect the Animations as well. An Imposter does not animate fluidly. -
How about a Daily Log In Reward?
Solar Legion replied to Bree Giffen's topic in General Discussion Forum
How about .... No. Can't be arsed to log in on a daily basis? Well, that's your own issue now isn't it? If one needs a reward as incentive to coax a log in, one should not be here. Cripes .... -
virtual goods Selling virtual goods on CREDIT (interest free)
Solar Legion replied to Wili Clip's topic in Merchants
That's nice. Meanwhile, they have not changed much of anything whatsoever regarding how the DMCA procedure is handled. Which means that either your DMCA was improperly filed in some way or the person you filed against, counter-filed. Beginning and end of. You've shown your hand and colors. Good day. -
virtual goods Selling virtual goods on CREDIT (interest free)
Solar Legion replied to Wili Clip's topic in Merchants
No, Linden Lab did not ignore your DMCA - period. The process has - since they began allowing it - remained fairly consistent (all one has to do to verify this is go looking through this forum - perhaps a few others): You file, Linden Lab removes the offending item (or items if more than one are named), the accused then has the option to counter your claim at which point Linden Lab reinstates the items and you must take the issue to court to settle it. There are and have never been any exceptions to this. No, this is not up for debate/discussion. The above is how it has been. -
Full Estate Avatar Support 100 ??? AWS Servers
Solar Legion replied to Wallace Wirefly's topic in Second Life Server
Oh for .... A region can support up to 100 avatars. That does not mean that they can do so consistently or reliably. How many you can have on a given region will be determined by a number of factors, some already mentioned in this very thread. There is no reason whatsoever to claim it is not possible or a falsehood. -
Market crash (update: LL unchrashed it)
Solar Legion replied to Arduenn Schwartzman's topic in General Discussion Forum
About the only thing(s) this "fiasco" really shows is how hungry people are for Free or Nearly Free stuff as well as the absolute need for proper Demos for Mesh Bodies and Heads. There should not have been any reason whatsoever for such a rush. No, not even if it were a Limited Edition or some other marketing gimmick. -
Advanced Lighting Model - that's the function that allows you to see Shadows, Materials, Point Lights, Projectors and pretty much all of the newer visual shiny things. Second Life is not coded to make use of RTX functions.
-
To add to my two recent posts: VR support on Linux is still a bit tricky as well, though Valve has been making some good strides in that direction. Until that is a fair bit further along and I - personally - have a better GPU, I'll be 'limited' to what I can put on the Quest 2 internal memory.
-
I do not like what VR for Second Life will require: An absolute end to the current level of creative freedom. We already have too many user that seem to think it would be a good idea for strict limits on a variety of factors. That needs to stop - last Millennium. As far as the Facebook requirement ... Meh. Not a deal breaker for me.
-
Tried it. Getting an Oculus Quest 2 today. My views on Second Life and VR remain unchanged.
-
VR needs to stay as far away from Second Life as possible. Yes, that is my personal opinion but as far as that goes, I am adamant on it. The only way to make Second Life properly usable in VR includes severely restricting the current creative freedom the user base has - there is no getting around that at all. You want VR? Go use VR Chat or something similar.
-
Heh, there were a few other menu items that triggered it as well - simply because they were coded to open the internal Browser and go to a specific web page. Most of those were - and still are - account and support/help related.
-
It was in one of the original menu categories at the top. I do not remember if you could set how the Viewer handled Web Links in the older Viewers or not but I think you could tell it to open them either in the internal Browser or in an External Browser - same as you can today.

Through the many evolutions of cellular phone technology, never once have I had to change my number. Not even when updating to a phone that took a smaller SIM Card type than the previous. My number has always carried forward. Then again I have not ever had to go to a physical store to get an emergency replacement device on such short notice either.
