  1. -Always wear an AO. Animation Override. -Toilets are only for roleplaying. -A good windlight setting makes you look good.
  2. I don't mind Christmas for all of December but not starting in October. Also, I don't want Halloween for one month.
  3. I totally agree that creators should stop making timed demos. I don't think I've ever bought anything that had a timed demo. When going through a store or event I always end up with many demos. As I try demos I save the items that I might want to buy into a folder and after going through all the demos I go back to that folder to re-look at everything and see what fits my budget. Unfortunately, I can't look at timed demos again and I end up looking at non-timed demos for making my final purchases. It is quite a hassle to buy demos again especially if its in a busy event. There are also times when I want to buy something from a few days to years ago. I have most of my favorited demos sitting in folders and I go back to find the item in order to purchase it at the store. Timed demos lose out again.
  4. I think I had one of those for work before I had to turn it in for a newer model. Maybe you have my laptop! I really like the black Lenovo Thinkpads. It harkens back to the time when IBM and Apple had these competing laptop designs with IBM all black and Apple all white. As far as SL performance goes, it sounds like it's running on the Intel graphics which has some 3d ability. Not the best performance but if it runs SL then you have that going for you AND a nice laptop for everyday use.
  5. Halloween shop n hop. The items sold and free gifts are more on point than other shop n hops, IMO.
  6. The only real thing of value would have to be land. So the only thing the bots would monitor is the status of land in every region and if they are not for sale or for sale. Maybe the frequency of land sales being done within a region. I don't buy and sell land but I think if someone were to make a database and tie that into some kind of automated buying and selling they could constantly raise prices on a particular set of parcels. If the bots monitor places like water adjacent land that all sell for around the same price and find that it is a hot market, they could buy all or most that land and raise the prices because the customer is manually going around and finding all these parcels are now all selling for higher prices. I know that people use data analytics these days to comb through huge amounts of data given out freely and then use that information to make money because no one else can see the patterns they discover.
  7. I have to agree with everyone on this. Maybe in another virtual world but not SL.
  8. This sounds like when a city forbids large advertising signs or billboards and a business parks a big truck on the street with advertising all over the sides. People find a way to get around every rule.
  9. I know Cyberpunk 2077 had raytracing added recently. I tried to enable it on my computer which doesn't support it and the whole game crashed. I had to reinstall. I'd love to see it in SL but it's not necessary.
  10. This thread was so difficult to read. I have always used the Linden viewer but I now occasionally use the Firestorm VR viewer. The LL viewer may be a pain to use but if it doesn't kill you it will make you stronger. I want to try a chip butty. Which I am told is thick cut fries between two slices of buttered sandwich bread. I don't have the exact ingredients but will try to air-fry some crinkle cut fries and put them into a bolillo roll.
  11. I hope it works well because there are times when I’m away from the computer and only have a mobile device. Getting SL to run on limited hardware could also make it run on VR.
  12. "may occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds" What are they looking for? Bodybuilders?
  13. I love getting event gifts aka free earrings. I've never seen a gift where you have to teleport away. Is it possible that the gift giver box is tied to a delivery system and the gift will be sent to you instead of actually being in the box?
  14. In the US, restaurants were exempt from minimum wage laws because the industry has a low profit margin. Restaurants paid their front-end staff below minimum wage but tipping was encouraged to let them earn additional pay by providing good service to the customers. This worked out well for the waiters and waitresses who could make a lot higher wages for their total wages + tips. Since most tips are in cash they could also forget to include some their tip income when reporting to the tax man. Other people who were normally tipped were bartenders, hair dressers, taxis, doormen, bag handlers and valets. Tipping seems to have grown these days due to the gig economy and the addition of tipping at electronic payment points. Tipping in SL seems to be more about actual payment to everyone involved in the entertainment from the venue owners, to hosts and DJs. There isn't any other source of income such as cover charges to enter the venue or selling drinks. I think the best idea would be a single tip jar set to pay out agreed percentages to everyone working.
  15. It gives me a place to talk about Second Life. I don't think I have ever uttered "Second Life" to anyone in the real world and I also don't talk about SL in any other place on the internet. The discussions I have here are also a lot different from what is normally discussed in Second Life.
  16. I haven't really had any bad griefer attacks. The public sandboxes I used to build in would sometimes crash from what I assume were attacks but I never saw anything and just logged into a different sandbox. I always used a sky platform which put me out of view for 99% of the griefers wandering around.
  17. At 1:42 of this video it tells you how to set your personal lighting. You need to set your ambient color and sun color to black. This should turn off all environmental lights and you will only be able to see any object lights or objects set to glow or full bright.
  18. I have ALM turned off when shopping because I don’t need beautiful shadows to see a full bright vendor image on a wall. I turn ALM on when I go home to try on the demos. I also turn ALM on when exploring regions that are well designed. Parks and beaches get ALM. Welcome areas no ALM. My computer can run ALM all the time but turning down graphics for better FPS, frames per second, is a typical gaming thing.
  19. If you do what @Istelathis has done by turning off all environmental lighting and using only a flashlight this actually makes any empty place in SL look scary.
