Clicking "wear items" on a giant folder...
Bree Giffen replied to duLuna Bosatsu's topic in General Discussion Forum
We need a new feature in the viewer that has a popup warning “you are about to attach over 1,000 items… continue?” and it will have only one button that says “Hell no!” -
Wait. Wait. Wait. If people who join SL are mostly introverts, the best idea was to create Mentors who require talking and interaction? The resulting social anxiety is going to be an 'I Quit' moment for a lot of them.

I think it's up to each of us to start a conversation with others in general chat. Look at other avatars and try to guess what they are about or read their profiles. If you have something in common you can talk about that or if not you could ask them to inform you about their interests. I've tried several times to simply start conversations where there is none. I start out with some quips like, 'This place is really quiet. If it gets any livelier a funeral might break out!' which is from Rodney Dangerfield. A really general question to nobody in particular like, 'Hey all. How's everyone doing tonight? Or today, wherever you are in the world'. If somebody start chatting with you in general, you could keep it open for others to join by asking things like, 'I wonder what anyone else thinks about this?

I've gone through 1/4 of the regions there. It is quite varied and there are many stores that I haven't seen. I like the new layout of a big square instead of a the cross style.

What are you watching today?

I watch these hoof cleaning videos all the time. I do nothing related to farming or animals but it's interesting. -

Simulated intimacy in SL vs the world ..
Bree Giffen replied to Coffee Pancake's topic in General Discussion Forum
Making standardized heights to be used by animators would do a lot to create better interaction between residents. Maybe Zindra should have signs like those in amusement parks that say, "You must be this tall to enjoy this ride". -

Anyone new to SL want help updating their avi??
Bree Giffen replied to EmmalyneWalker's topic in Your Avatar
You should apply to be a mentor. Then you'd be helping people all the time. But you'd need to use the Linden viewer. -
You can try to look for furniture that has animation for multiple sizes available. IK (inverse kinematics) would help if it allowed people to adjust and save animations. The few times I've encountered size differences usually ended up in one person resizing their avatar for the moment. If everyone were the same size, all animations could be totally set up perfectly by animators.

How about writing that you have committed a lot of crimes but the district attorney just lets you go every time. I guess that wouldn't make you look that interesting.

Apple Vision Plus and Second Life
Bree Giffen replied to diamond Marchant's topic in General Discussion Forum
Have you seen the new Meta Quest Pro (MQP) goggles? It's quite small and thin now. More like ski goggles hovering over your face. They even added a headband and counterweight that takes all the strain off your eye sockets. I think Apple is going the augmentation route with the Apple Vision Pro (AVP) rather than the full immersion route of other VR headsets. With Apple setting the bar at $3,500 the $1,000 price tag for the MQP sounds like a bargain. T -
I just had an idea. How about if rainbow stripes were replaced with metallic stripes? A flag made up of silver, gold, bronze, copper, brass, gunmetal, etc? I think that would make pride look more futuristic and powerful. Would you rather have gleaming cold metal or happy bright lights in the sky?

Is this new round of mentors a good idea?
Bree Giffen replied to Sid Nagy's topic in General Discussion Forum
I think the new mentors need to dress in something special to show their position and to stand out from the crowd. Maybe gold colored robes would be appropriate. Newbie: Can you help me? Me: Sorry I can't but do you see that person over there in the gold robes? Yeah, they can help you! Newbie: Ok thanks so much! -
Is this new round of mentors a good idea?
Bree Giffen replied to Sid Nagy's topic in General Discussion Forum
Tormentor! Where do I sign up? Mentor? Ohhh. Nevermind. My only experience was having a mentor tell me that older players are not allowed in the new player area because I initially picked the brand new punk girl avatar offered at startup. I had to instruct the mentor about it. But, I think a new round of mentors is a good idea. LL will have learned from it's past mistakes and will no doubt create a winning formula for mentorship. We all know how complicated SL is and LL finally creating something to address that is what we need... or they need... the newbies. -

It would be like Second Life's 'Show Look At'. Where is that crosshair pointed at? -

One other thing I found funny was that they specifically mention eye tracking data is not sent to Apple or third parties. This Vision Pro has really good eye tracking and if you are looking at people through this it would know what part of that person you are constantly looking at. From the Apple website: Where a user looks stays private while navigating Apple Vision Pro, and eye tracking information is not shared with Apple, third-party apps, or websites. -

That's a steep price for a brand new untested product but Apple customers usually skew to affluent and buy whatever Apple makes. If any company can pull off AR correctly it would be Apple. Hopefully this Vision Pro is like every other line of product where a non-pro version will be released and then further iterations get released regularly. -
Purely from a color design point of view I don't really like the whole rainbow and colors in products for Pride Month. It's too much of a happy and carnival style of coloring. What about sophistication and coolness? Muted colors? Maybe after a few more years we'll see the palette mature into a darker and wearable style.
