  1. I suggested 24 hours because if someone IS just testing something and -poof- it’s gone within a day, if it’s reported, then there will be follow up...someone has to read the report, log in, go there, rez in, hunt about, etc...and these reports could slow them from more quickly getting to a still-existing nuisance down the road. But then there’s something to be said for quick, repeated reporting that will build the case for preventing that one annoying neighbor from continuing to rez any number of against-the-covenant things and just leaving them out ‘for the day’ pretty often too. So I guess it’s up to the individual what to report and when. I’m not really sure what actually happens to offending items besides them getting sent back? If you have a neighbor who repeatedly breaks the covenant (and we all know there will be a few), what’s the end result? Also ‘presentable and in-theme’ are both highly subjective terms. Especially the first. Else why do I see people putting things like horse barns in a residential neighborhood, very strange vegetation combos of things that never grow together in proximity, and some people looking like they will leave things like strings of ‘holiday lights’ up all year? And yep, the latter is also RL example that gets reported and is something people really fight over. I think it’s OK on the campers but wouldn’t be for the Victorians. Some of it is ‘because pretend pixel world’, of course...there’s no smell or noise or need of corral and exercise for SL horses so ofc you can keep them ‘in your back yard’ in SLuburbia...but is it ‘in theme’?
  2. This just looks like they rezzed out their skybox at ground level long enough to check the size and center it on their parcel before sending it up. Since later reports say it was gone, maybe a ‘24 hour wait and see’ policy might be better unless a neighbor just gets into the bad habit of repeatedly rezzing and leaving out items that are in violation of the covenant. Just a thought.
  3. Fauve, Art, strange + beautiful things, photography, unusual fashion, travel. Part time ballerina, curious person. My photos say more than I can really say with a blurb.
  4. Heads, Genus...lots of makeups etc. for them recently...then the 2 newest Lelutka models, which are currently on discount so ofc that plus ‘new’ will make them ‘popular’. Lots of people still wear the first gen bento heads, but I don’t see many of the static heads mesh around much anymore.
  5. Bare Rose makes some of their regular clothing in a ‘flat chest’ option for maitreya.
  6. Last of the western New Year’s photos, soon time to start posting Lunar New Year ones!
  7. Partly anathema, this here story...AWFUL.
  8. Cool, Wulfie, thank you, I’ll go ahead and start experimenting in BOM then. The 👏 made me giggle. Theresa thank you, the specular was what I was most wanting to still be able to apply. Alyona your posts don’t address materials except for the comment regarding the neck seam, materials capabilities for BOM was my question but thank you just the same for your replies. I’m great with the diffuse texture baking and I think I understand well enough how baking combines the textures, now that the question of partially transparent textures has also been answered...but I was not so clear about what people were saying (happily by mistake) about using/losing materials.
  9. I ‘live’ in a couple of different communities and one also has this kind of scale issue. I made a larger avatar shape that fits correctly there and I just pop it on for that place, it was a better solution for me than trying to size all the things down when the community at large (pun intended) was just set to a bigger scale. If the home is the correct scale, won’t scaling down the things in it seem a bit odd?
  10. Did I miss a drama? I feel like I did. Damn. Also, please give some blue-circle heart love and warm veneration to my son. Every like is a prayer in 2k20 right? I’m going to treat him like a Zooby Baby. See, he already has the coordinating clothing. Please forgive my embarrassingly basic nails, I haven’t had them done yet this week.
  11. I am really glad the holidays are over and I’ve already knocked one of my 2020 SL goals off my list. My progress overall is the old ‘two steps forward, one back, three sideways’, but I’m doing OK with it. At first it seemed a bit silly to make ‘SL goals’ lists but since quite a few of the things on them do tie in with doing RL things, (Art, crafting, selling, learning, writing, taking images, etc)...counting them up in a list-y type way actually feels very satisfying. I always love the winter part of a new year! I’m feeling good! 🦋
  12. Excellent! My post was a success! But seriously, it’s over-complicating the situation to worry about all of this from either direction...in SL, do what you like at the level that fits YOU best, spending nothing or spending within your own budget (as with any hobby or endeavor), and try not to be so concerned about what’s good or right for someone else? Premium membership tiers are optional, free accounts will always have some but not as much of what the paid tiers offer, and some specific advantages will always be ‘premium only’ as long as it’s financially successful to have the premium levels. There are so many different things to pursue in so many other ways in SL if a premium membership isn’t a good fit. I’m sure there are always plenty of people who are power users who spend way more than the average premium account holder does, and would never subscribe to a premium tier. Which is why I’ve never seen premium as a status thing, just as an opt-in thing IF you like the offered perks.
  13. Those annoy me too. I’ve made a note of the names of the ones that annoy. Use NOT search modifiers separated by commas to filter them. Part of my job is to search for things to use for ballet costumes so I make copy/paste filter strings to make this quicker and easier. I’m still not super at it but I have the NOT going well! To get rid of most of the crate textures and farming game stuff: Cabbage, NOT DFS, NOT Beyou, NOT G&S probably the most logical way. I know one designer who has only the demo and the fat packs on MP, individual colors in-store, that seems good too.
  14. I’m taking this as sarcasm I hope I’m right because you just never know in the forums...but hey post count and hearing myself talk, right? Right. RL things you have to consider aside because unless you flaunt or abuse your privilege(s), it’s usually not questioned that much...though people without royalty would have a bit of difficulty with the ‘commoner’ thing because even important peeps in the US are all commoners. I think some high level frequent flyers get to board first too but mostly its just for people with various special needs. If you are flying 1st class you already have time, room and consideration so you don’t need any airplane boarding perk programs. Also these days, people who ‘fly too much’ for leisure get a big side-eye anyway ‘because carbon footprint’. But back to SL where we belong because ’on topic’...with some of these you aren’t far off the mark from what exists already based on membership or spending to show that you are 1337. For instance, if you want to be a Duke where everyone on the estate acknowledges your title (and yes, calls you ‘Your Grace’ in perpetuity)...in Caledon, that’s the correct title for those who sublet a homestead sim region there. AFAIK, there’s still a waiting list, as there always has been. I’m sure it’s not the only estate where you can buy yourself some insta-status and a title. Premium members can already wear 2 animesh instead of 1 so you can already wear at least a pair of attendants constantly, it’s one of your premium perks. Don't forget to adjust them so they can fit through the doorways of your Linden Home and if people around you complain of the lag, be sure to mention that you are merely exercising your membership benefits! As far as the rest, it could be scripted but the loud effects ‘On TP’ and wearing bright bling or glow are very 2009, unless RP (which all this posturing is anyway, because who mistakes ”SL premium member status” for anything actually important?!?) And remember, the new membership tier is coming, and so you’ll need to splash more cash if you really want to be 1337 in 2k20. And of course because I’m so important (and 1337) because I’m premium and all that, I must end with a quote, it’s just something we do. Not my own quote sadly, but one from the public profile of someone who has spent countless volunteer hours babysitting administering for one set of creators via an SL grant program. ”Being popular in SL is like sitting at the cool kids table in the cafeteria of a mental hospital.”
  15. I’m seeing a lot of demos that aren’t linked to the regular product, but in the cases of something that comes in multiple colors, a variety of mini-packs and a fat pack, etc...I understand them not wanting to tie a demo to only one of those. So what’s the correct protocol for this? Say it’s a hair-maker...they have one demo for each style, but if they link that demo to just one color or the fatpack, it still makes me hunt for the color I want, so I see why they don’t link it at all. Every single hair from one creator, for example has 12 MP entries, one demo, one for each of 7 tones, 3 variety multi-packs and one fatpack of everything.
  16. Name changes are coming Update: The new last names submission contest did close already so maybe the actual winner announcement will go out on the 15th? I think my ‘cousin’ (Resident alt) did get quite a few entries in, 3 at a time. Close to her goal of 100. Even though the existing list is huge, it was fun to think of new ones, once on a roll.
  17. In most modern casual-wear or classic clothing, I wear ‘sets’ rarely enough that I wouldn’t see the savings much and buying a la carte gives me just the things I want with no ‘annoying extra cost’ (and inventory bloat) for things I don’t. Plus I’m picky. I will often like only one part of something and I wouldn’t appreciate needing to buy an entire set in order to get that one part. It’s double work to package everything singly then make sets, then the demos and photos for it all too. I really can see why designers usually do one or the other but not both. I tend to spend more often with designers who give me the most versatile separates options. The rare times I do like, say a complete lingerie set, I don’t mind buying the pieces separately.
  18. I’m still confused, I know the purpose of bom is to get rid of much of the onion skinning for texture layers for the bodies, reducing geometry and multiple layers of many large textures but if normal and specular mapping is not used, then are we back to flat and matte textures without materials? In an advanced-lighting environment? Only texture-baked light effects and drawn-in highlights? I hope not, but I’m still not sure. What about all the options for makeup blending? How does that work with bom, or is it gone too? Are there plans to add back materials as an option? I feel like that’s a step backwards if not, eliminating a very good feature.
  19. And yet barred by my company's content filter. I wouldn’t consider it a safe-for-work click. I knew what the rule is though.
  20. So many...and I’ve tried to tell them, let them know how much their kindness, their help, their patience, teaching and friendship has meant...several have passed, one without me really ever telling them and I so regret that. ...but I’ll tell one that I think is interesting...I met a fêted and award-winning creator soon after I joined. They had a sim, huge main store, several satellites, did collabs, fashion shows, had branched out beyond clothing etc. etc.. Cool - I was so eager to hear their SL creative story! Turned out, SL success is relative, highly subjective and they were not actually consistently bringing home minimum wage at the height of their popularity. It taught me probably the first very valuable lesson of SL. Intentional or not, many things are ‘not as they seem’, and both the good and the bad are hugely magnified in a not-quite-accurate way much of the time. Combine this with the faster speed that time flows inworld and it’s like a distorted magnification of what I think I see sometimes. It’s not a bad thing per se, it’s just something to know and remember. And sure some things are also like that RL too...but it seems to be much more concentrated and also exaggerated in SL.
  21. Tonight, grocery store hot bar/deli food. Not often but sometimes... General Tso, loaded potato salad, basically inducing a carb coma. ‘oh, and a Cherry Coke!
