  1. On reddit .. specifically because there is the entirety of reddit to discuss literally everything under the sun (even deeply questionable or illegal content), we keep things tightly on topic. Due to the pacing, we have to moderate negativity otherwise a minority who hate things people do in SL dominate all discussions and in turn, cause others to avoid posting new content at all. The same for drive by "taking a dump". It took us years to turn the sub around, at least the death threats have (more or less) stopped !
  2. If that's how you think what I said was intended, then I guess you know what to do.
  3. Only now, it's coded in the rules. Tolerance is the foundation of social justice, which is now explicitly banned.
  4. The intolerant are now calling for the thread discussing tolerance to be closed.
  5. For those most upset, these forums are a key element in the social aspect of their Second Life. Anything analogous to the community here is something Second Life itself does remarkably poorly in world and always has. The powers that be don't use SL socially and as such, we are never going to see an expansion of what exists in world now, group chats, meetings, the odd dance .. it's not even nearly comparable. There is also the point that old school forums are a dying internet breed.
  6. I help mod the SecondLife subreddit. We do keep the place more strictly about SL simply because the rest of reddit is right there, we will even remove posts about ex lindens or competing worlds. Metaverse and blockchain stuff is just blacklisted. That doesn't really work so well here as a self contained community, clamping down here just encourages people to move on to other places, and it will be the most committed and minorities that go first, it always is. It wont have the desired effect of making this into an "SL is awesome echo chamber", if anything .. the tone will get significantly more salty. Killing time and giving LL space is most of the discussion here, take that away and we're not social anymore, we're here with a purpose .. and that purpose might as well be "why is this all junk and why do you hate your customers?". This isn't some new death spiral, we've all been here before, probably many times with many companies who start struggling and trying to micro manage the community as though that's the problem. The one thing we do also mod very strictly (as in, shoot first and ask questions later) is trolls who explicitly use personal insults, attack minorities and LGBTQ folk, homophobia, transphobia, racism, PMing posters to attack them, shouting about freeze peach, JAQing off, sealioning, aggressive and constant negging of female posters, and so on and so on. This is very much not the case here because of some fox news notion of "both sides". Reddit posts are threaded and do not get bumped (unlike this forum) , so there is pressure to be relevant and be quick about it. Things can get nasty and overheat quickly, angry haters silence meaningful participation. Much in the same way discussion of LGBTQ issues in SL is silenced here, no one wants to start those threads only to have 2 people and an alt come in and nicely imply they shouldn't exist at all. Funny, the new rules explicitly prohibit arguing against those positions, and because the posters here don't explicitly say what they actually mean (and we all know) veiled hate speech is now permitted. We've been extremely pro LL to this point and routinely remove rants, not wanting the sub to descend into the enormous lake of festering anti LL bile that exists. LL are one of the only companies I know that manages to not only make their customers hate them, but hate them for life - people will seriously show up having not used SL for a decade just to unload about how much they hate SL and LL for not being dead yet - This includes most of the industry media. I'm not saying we or I am going to change that stance, but if thinly veiled hate speech starts to show up and be allowed to stand, I'm not going to be too willing to defend LL and will be seriously reconsidering my participation on these forums, which will undoubtedly have a knock on effect to my participation and contributions to the platform.
  7. Oh I understand that entirely .. It's a shame LL didn't keep some of the presence-less avatar login regions from their own alpha mobile client, negating the need for bots etc.
  8. You know full well it is. How many people would use Discord or Telegram if it kicked everyone off every few hours.
  9. This thread is now ILLEGAL and as such can't have rules of it's own. POST MOAR BUNNIES
  10. Social justice issues aren't contentious. They're easily trolled. Don't be a dick to other people leading different lives. But Mooooom that's my right !! (then the forum erupts to shut down the dickery and we're the bad guys for causing a ruckus)
  11. If we do see further clamping down on SL content it will likely only be broad strokes aimed at the adult community. The inner happenings of SL tend to be beyond the purview of LL and outside parties, no one can say with any degree of certainty what we actually do aside from all the big bullet points that miss the actual point. The only point that does remain however, is if they're cleaning up, they're probably expecting visitors.
  12. They really are leaving us nothing to do but hold their feet to the fire. Not as residents. But as paying customers.
  13. You wanna risk it .. or should all be getting blind alts and a VPN .. like the trolls have been doing for years
  14. This isn't a good sign, just further discriminating against relationships outside of heteronormativity that are perfectly valid in and out of SL. Where do LGBTQ people post ?
  15. [Hook] Funky dollar bill U.S. dollar bill [Verse 1] You go to school to learn the rules On how to love and live your life But think about it twice The pushers push, the fixers fix The judge acquits The junkie leads his life For the dollar bill [Hook] [Verse 2] You don't buy a life, you live a life A father learns much too late He was a-never home He worked two jobs, never stayed at home He had to, 'cause His love life was gone For the dollar bill For the dollar bill For the dollar bill U.S. dollar bill [Verse 3] It'll buy a war It will save a land It pollutes this air In the name of wealth It'll buy you life But not true life The kind of life Where the soul is harsh For the dollar bill [Hook]
  16. "Cleaning up the forums" and chilling discussion has NEVER been a good sign for any community focused service. We've all been online long enough to know how this goes. I am officially declaring that Linden Lab chicken little watch has begun. 🥚🐣🐥🐤 (also .. it is peek SL that we don't have the little chicken emoji on the forums, but we do have a 🐔)
  17. You can't really apply the anthropic principal. When SL started, there were many alternative worlds and they all got traction to some degree. As one example, There.com was very popular and provided a more responsive experience including vehicles and pets that we still can't match today. They had their own currency that could be exchanged (T$), voice chat, huge parties, limited UGC and so on. Most of the other worlds, old and new, have far more common heritage with There.com than they do with SL. SL was the poor mans alternative that had building and virtual land but looked and ran like crap, it was never expected to be the one that survived and won .. and in a way .. it didn't. SL was the last man standing, as the other worlds imploded and the money ran out, they got shut down and people looking for something similar found SL was the only place left. The early SL adopters, builders and visionaries and land speculators, were not sufficient to make this platform a success. It took the social exiles from other worlds to come here and view the offering though the lens of the past experience, see past the horrific jank (that we still frikin have) and come to the conclusion we had one extra magic ingredient. Hope.
  18. There's more than one way to send an avatar home, and many ways to make them miserable and impeded their movement, half of which don't even need scripted evil .. just "oops .. I left a prim out". Better information about which parcels an agent has access to when an agent enters a region would be very useful though, rather than just informing the viewer about the nearest as they approach.
  19. I don't think existing / upcoming virtual worlds are going to be much of a competitor .. as much as we like to think of SL as being the same class of product, it's not and the similarities are only superficial. SL isn't a successful virtual world, it's a virtual world that got accidentally infested with people. The magic that sets SL apart from the fallen competition and current crop of hopefuls isn't some special combination of technical nuggets, it's that people are able to look at what's on offer and not only see themselves in that picture, but see a potential. The huge early growth spurt was built entirely by users evangelizing and bringing people here, taking the vision that LL & Philip provided and then running with it and getting excited. The hang over from those days still bites us in form of depressing press coverage wondering why we're not all dead yet. The modern competition are not really the same at all, they offer a similar base proposition, build stuff, make money, have an avatar, do stuff .. and .. no one cares. Second Life is a social phenomenon and that can and does happen elsewhere, and if we can't keep the platform moving forward and presenting something reasonably modern we lose ground we can't ever hope to make back.
  20. Because this is not a new discussion and it has been clarified repeatedly, and no amount of rules lawyering, fighting over must vs should, and bullying people will change anything. Zero second orbs are fine. You may have one on mainland. You can have more than one if you like. Build your whole house from them if you want.
