  1. A vital part of this is actually having the ability to flag items in the wrong category. I just found 3 tables in the apparel category, yet none of the options to flag it include "wrong category." So I guess LL needs to allow us to flag these items first.
  2. Non mesh avatars aren't going anywhere, as we've seen in these very forums. I and others keep pointing out that when you're clothed, most of your avatar is orobably alphaed out, whether it's a mesh or system avatar. Non mesh clothing? That's definitely going the way of prim-dinosaurs.
  3. There aren't any statistics and probably never will be. But I think it's wrong to think of it as people who want to be trendy. For kid avatars, I think most kinds use mesh because the avatar shape doesn't scale down far enough to look human. I feel like the same is true for a lot of other people; they want to look human, rather than trendy. There's also a difference in how people play SL. Some want a a good looking simulation or decent representation of some identity for any reason. Others don't really care what their avatar looks like because that's not important to them Maybe they just use SL like a chatroom. Maybe they like to look around different sims but not themselves. Maybe they realize that, once fully clothed, very few aspects of a mesh avatar can be seen anyways and thus don't really care. Everyone plays SL for a different reason and uses different kinds of avatars for different reasons. It would be wildly inaccurate to assume that people only do it to be trendy or a fashionista.
  4. You don't get representation in British Parliament because your country left the British Empire via war. The reason why LL has to take taxes from some customers is because they are required to do so due to international laws and trade agreements. If you're an American though, your dollars don't go to Britain, so it's a non-issue.
  5. I'm a kid avatar, so I'm already not entirely clear how babies are made. I think breedable shoes would only lead to more confusion. I think it's a funny idea. Provided that it didn't really cost a lot, I'd give it a try. I get that a lot of people take breedable animals really seriously, but let's face it; we're talking about shoes. You just can't take that seriously. I see this as the pet rock of SL; it's funny and everyone would probably try it at least once, but it's really the realm of humor.
  6. That's a great point. Just because something isn't made for your shape doesn't mean it won't fit. I play a kid avatar and even XXS sized clothing just doesn't fit right, yet I've had some larger men's clothing fit pretty well because of how it was rigged. If there's something you like, try the demo. Regardless of what size or avatar it's specifically made for, it might fit you just fine. In real life, very little clothing is specifically made for your specific shape and body type, so why should SL be any different?
  7. I always thought it was so they didn't have to deal with childhood labour laws.
  8. Thanks for the feedback, everyone. I know that SMB is the go to for kids and preteens (that's what I use), and am waiting on Punk (I've been talking to the creator about making clothes for it and really appreciate the work he's doing). And I'm looking at Avatar 2.0, since the creator has developer support. I'll look into the other suggestions though, and see what I can work on.
  9. Oh God. Please tell me someone is making breedable houseplants. To those who keep saying the sky-prim is falling, it really isn't. The unending wave of premium players teleporting into events is going to last... exactly how long? An hour? Two? I highly doubt that increasing capacity is going to have the weeks long effect people are somehow coming up with. It's not going to take any longer to get into a popular event than it does now. Can we please stop thinking the sky-prim is falling, relax for 5 minutes, and see how ridiculous this discussion is? Capacity has increased, not decreased.
  10. My store sells kids clothes, but I'd like to keep older teens in mind as I grow. However, I don't know what that really looks like. I know that younger kids tend to use mesh avatars so they actually look human, and that they are popular for ripped men and beautiful, but I'm not sure about the teen/not bodybuilder community. Are there go-to mesh avatars for teens too, or is making clothing in standard sizes a better option? If so, bonus points go to those who offer offline creator files so I can actually make clothing fit right.
  11. Will it though? I don't remember reading that in the blog post. How will non-premium players be forced out of Sims when the non-premium cap is still 100%? Why would there be a disproportionate amount of premium players or any lasting once the area is no longer full?
  12. Looks up to see if the sky-prim is falling, sees that it isn't. LL is adding to area capacity. I really fail to see why people are getting upset. For non-premium players, there isn't a change. And with regards to these events, just wait a day or two before going. As long as the event is still running, you can still enjoy it and buy your stuff. If you miss free gifts, than you missed the free gifts; LL adding capacity doesn't change that. And to that person who complained that new events will start and the old event won't be cool anymore... Seriously?
  13. No. It's already heard enough to find anything. If anything, we need more subcategories.
  14. What you want to think about is what bringing the students to SL will add to your class. What kind of activities and lessons do you plan to run? How does SL add to that experience? Teaching is more than having the students watch you talk (or in the case of SL, watch your chat text).
  15. As with tabletop roleplaying, I tend to not make a backstory for my character(s), since backstories are just something people have to read, are always written to conclusion, and thus don't affect anything. What I do instead is create a background. Who is the character? What are some details about them? And are there any past events (though loosely detailed) that affect them. My main character background is that I'm in grade 5, am a little bit shy and sensitive, but am playful and a bit dorky, am a Pisces, and that my parents died in a car accident (the reason why I was adopted instead of having a family already). That's it. I didn't even have a specific age until I had to pick one, and the circumstances and details of the family death haven't be prescribed or explored. Everything else is based on what has happened in play (going to school, playing soccer, etc), though I don't leave those details in my profile as backstory.
  16. How are you advertising though? A lot of people don't check the forums. Your audience in this spam group is going to be limited to those people who are in said group and have notices turned on. It's entirely possible that you really aren't advertising it effectively and that's why you aren't getting the turnout you want. With that said, it's important in event planning to create measurable goals for your events. At what point is the event a success? Do you want 3 people for a close discussion? Do you want a 400 person lecture? I'd love to get 20 people to an event I planned, but I realistically base the event around maybe 5 people that I know I can get. If I get 5, it's a success. If I get 10, it's a hit. If I get 2, I start to look at why it wasn't a success. It's not about how many people are at the event. It's about the event itself.
  17. For those complaining about how nothing fits their unique shape... try playing a child avatar for a week. Even if you are an older child/young teen, nothing that isn't specifically made made for you fits. NOTHING. There is no exaggeration here. Standard sized XS pants look like I can fit another person in them, and shirts look like I have 9 pillows stuffed in them. I can find the odd jacket that doesn't make me look like a pro wrestler, and they still make me look huge. Literally nothing fits. So I tend to have a little less sympathy for people who aren't even trying mesh and just complain instead. If you are a human shaped adult, everything available will fit you just fine.
  18. Considering that LL spent an unknown amount of time on Bento (improve the bone structure of avatars), and that they did so in light of a future release of whatever Project Sansar is, it seems to be in good shape. People are still using it, people are still paying for land, people are still buying Lindens, and people are still logging in. While I agree that there is no permanence when it comes to online games, the difference here is that we always have OpenSIm to fall back on. While the content will likely be lost, a content creator need only join another grid and upload there, which is something already being done. This is a stark contrast to most other games, which have proprietary server software that make continued play after the offiial servers stop almost impossible, but we're even seeing that start to change. Will SL be around forever? No. Will it be around next year? It looks like it. And when it goes away, will players have a way to continue using something very similar? Absolutely.
  19. To add to this, there should be a way to AR a user via their forum profile, or at least report mass abuses like this.
  20. On a technical level, system avatars and clothes will always be there. On a practical level, system clothes died ages ago. They look awful, just like more system avatars. It's worth noting that there is no "learn how to use mesh." You put it and the accompanying alpha on. If you have to learn how to do that, you're doing something wrong. Now, a poorly made mesh avatar can be a problem because it's poorly made. And I'm not sure how prevalent the problem is, but many avatar makers seem to not want to share offline files for designers to build off of. This makes it impossible to size things properly, and thus means things won't fit even the avatar they are meant to fit. If people stopped trying to have an exclusive market and actually worked with clothing designers, things would go a lot better.
  21. In that case, there are tons of playgrounds, amusement parks, natural parks, and the like that are good. Also try checking the Destination Guide for some ideas. There's lot of stuff in there.
  22. I like to blend real life learning with roleplaying and SL mechanics. For example, a cooking class can include looking at actual recipes and learning about kitchen use and safety, have a building component where you assemble, texture, and possibly script your meal, and roleplay to decide how it turns out or if you lit the stove on fire. I'm also interested in more traditional learning (again, maybe with a roleplaying spin). Foreign languages would be interesting to learn, as would live graphics or modeling courses. I also think a comp-sci course on scripting would be interesting. That being said, I know people who are interested in actually learning. Some of these people have dissociative identity disorder and thus never got to go to school. Others might be drop outs looking for another chance. With the only options really being RP schools, where it's more about playing at a school than learning, that can be really disappointing or frustrating for them.
  23. SL scale drives me pretty crazy. I believe it comes from the amateur nature of SL. Frankly (but not offensively), few people on SL have any concept of proportion or scale. People make mutants that look like humans, but are 10 feet tall, have stumpy t-rex arms, and live in 100 foot tall castles. It bothers me that I can't sit on most furniture properly without looking like I'm in a Jack and the Beanstalk play. It's bothers me when I rez out a table, only to see that it's taller than I am. I understand the camera issues and why buildings in SL have to be a little wider and taller (I uploaded a life sized building once and it looked like a closet). But everything in SL is just so weirdly large.
  24. I agree with the head and some of the other advice. If you're already wearing mesh clothing, this shouldn't be a big deal. When dressed, your shape and avatar aren't really visible anyways. If you are doing a hard conversion from system clothing to a mesh avatar, that's going to be the biggest problem. It's worth noting that changing your avatar's appearance isn't going to be an exact science. Rather, you want to match the look rather than copy it. Work on getting the same height, similar proportions, and assigned your skin or a new one in order to update your look.
  25. Sorry, but that's just not true. Mesh is rigged to your skeleton. Bento didn't change that. To resize rigged mesh, you could have to change the placement of your bones, which you can't do. Bento just added more bones that can be used in fitted mesh.
