  1. Comparing Maitreya to Reborn is a question of candied apples and chocolate oranges - and Reborn ate them all!
  2. I suspect my partner has an alt. I'm on VS and I don't like it. My partner cheated on me with my SL mum and then faked their RL death but now they're back and have amnesia and got engaged to my mum - what's the appropriate colour of dress to wear to their wedding??
  3. Either it's in your head's HUD (depending on head, but, since you didn't mention which I'll just guess it's an EvoX. 'Cause, probability). If so, you can end animations by hitting the stop buttons there (little pink dots, in Lelutka's HUDs). Another common source of out-of-place facial animations may be if you have a certain downstairs attachment, it too has a page in its HUD for facial animations which you can turn off there.
  4. .. More lady caves to the people?
  5. I feel the same way about external renders and those very obviously AI-mangafied ads. If a creator doesn't dare show their creations made for SL as they appear in SL then I'll just assume it's junk.
  6. EvoX mapping uses a separate channel for their ears though, so it uses both the standard 'head' channel plus .. Aux 1, I think it is? So it's two textures 'for the head'. I'm not entirely sure if you can set those textures to 512 x 512 at all, especially seeing as the way avatars are baked, all layers are compiled into a single texture per channel (i.e if I have a texture for my skin, and 12 different tattoos that use the torso channel, they're baked as a single texture which is then what people load). This is why we 'rebake' whenever we change the tattoo layer order, for example (and, since the texture is cached we can sometimes have a nigh-instant re-bake when we change back to the previous layer order). The trouble really is when it comes to using more channels. But then, it's not a 'huge' problem either. You may well have a pair of shoes with thrice the amount of channels (faces) with unique textures than you do in a head (hence me occasionally ranting about when someone puts a 1024x1024 texture for a single button - no one's really ever going to zoom into that button to a point where you see it anywhere near its native resolution anyway). So, yes, having more faces on a head is a bump to the performance, but in the grand scheme of things it isn't terribly high - but it is rather pointless in most cases (although arguably bumping up the 3 avatar channels to 2048x2048 would probably satisfy everyone's 'HD-mania' - as long as you have the option to turn it down on your end, like we can currently limit them to 512x512 client-side).
  7. It's about when I first joined SL, and by then there were all sorts of other hairs (flexi prim, sculptie, and mesh was introduced around then as well and was getting popular early on for me). One of the starter avies I worked with (a freebie I picked up at Caledon Oxbridge, if I recall) had stubble hair as a part of its skin, so I was using a 'bald hair base' with it. I very seldom touch it, but then I very seldom change skins or heads that would require me to adjust the shape of the brows, most of the shaping for the face is done in the shape anyway! Yes, if SL was being designed to fit today's standards, a lot of the archaic things that were introduced at the very start would be unnecessary - but it's not as easy as to just move the sliders over to the shape and ditching the requirement to wear a 'system hair'; it would break a lot of shapes for people, and I imagine there's a fair bit of spaghetti in the code to change such things by now. Maybe in Second Life 2 there will be no such thing!
  8. I was supposed to sort my inventory a bit, as I've been thinking I don't want my wardrobe to be a chaotic mishmash of both Lara and LaraX fits .. But instead I went and bought a few animations and put together a new AO.
  9. 'System hair', 'hair base', 'brow shaper', it doesn't feel as if the denizens of SL have ever really come to agree upon what to call this thing - if you create a new one in your inventory, the menu option simply says 'create hair'. Especially confusing as 'hair base' now tends to refer to a tattoo layer for painting hair on your scalp (but there's also mesh hair bases, I noticed, which are essentially an onion layer for your scalp .. As if we needed more onion layers in our lives!). It's also one of those things that everyone in SL run into sooner or later, as it's one of those 'core' bits of your avi that can never be removed; much like a skin, a shape, and eyes, you always must wear one and can never wear more than one of at a time (and if you do manage to remove them or wear multiples, you won't bake). And since it is such an integral part of our avatars it's highly unlikely that it will ever really be changed much in terms of its functions.
  10. In addition to changing its shape, you can also set its texture to transparent. It's best to do both, as having transparent bits poking out of your head may mess up hairs and such.

I got curious about it as, at first, I thought people were mixing up the words 'session' and 'sensations', and immediately when I saw the adverts I went 'hey I know that HUD'. I got some wings from them, and whilst I love the functionality of them (and the appearance of the wings themselves), the appearance of the HUD is quite an eye-sore with all its bright, brash colours. Might have to give the demo a go at least.
  12. I just can't get enough of this. Feels like The Hitcher would give the cockney hobbit a big thumbs up, too!
  13. Depends on what game version you're playing, but yes - either via /unstuck in chat or by going into the help menu should pretty much always be there. The one embarrassing thing you tend to have to actually get a GM for (or a friendly warlock and some volunteers) is when you get stuck behind that one torch in Orgrimmar which deals next to no damage every few seconds which stops the /unstuck cast as well as the regular Hearthstone cast, but deals so little damage that most players' automatic health tics keep them from ever dying from it.
  14. Like-minded in what regard, exactly? Adherents of the statement that making friends is 'hard'? Seems a strange commonality to base friendships on.

The V isn't cheap, but a lot of work went into creating it so I don't mind (just like bodies and heads being 'pricy' is totally warranted) - but, the difference between Lara and LaraX (as far as the V is concerned) is in the body shape alone; they don't need to recreate everything from scratch, all the scripts, animations, and functions already exist, and if we've already paid for the 'development' process then making a new rig of the same product a whole new full-price product feels off to me. That's not to say that there isn't any work, because obviously they won't have a LaraX-compatible version with the snap of their fingers. I'd be fine with it costing a little bit for people who already own the Lara version, but there's not really any functionality in SL to make a product exclusively available for someone who already has a different product, so that becomes a bit of an administrative issue (only way I could think of is to not include the HUD, making it a pretty pointless purchase for anyone who doesn't already have a HUD for their older version that could be made compatible - and if that's a model they would consider then I wouldn't mind it). It's no different from clothes, really. New riggings take time and work, and I've got no issue with creators wanting compensation for that - but the full price for a product I've already bought where the only factor is a new rig is a bit like getting your car back from the garage with them wanting you to pay for the entire price of the car you already owned, when all they did was switching to winter tyres.
  16. It happens quite frequently that people stream via Discord to show me what's going on on their end when I'm helping them out with stuff, and observing people have that little camera control HUD open and clicking away to navigate SL is painful to watch, particularly when it's their avi I'm helping them with and they got no fine control whatsoever to zoom in to the relevant body part they're adjusting.
  17. Had a pretty decent haul between the Shop & Hop and Friday sales thus far. Some items are ones I nabbed off the last weekend sales too. Top: Zaara - Anisha Skirt/Belt: Zaara - Ziya Gloves: !4AE - Julie Gloves Bodysuit: Moxxi - Laura Boots: !4AE - Evil Boots (Pantyhose is Psyche from Violent Seduction, BOM) Dress: Everfaery - Emmalyn Necklace: Rawr - Solstice Top/Bottom: KiB Designs - Amata Gown (S&H gift) Bikini: Lapointe & Bastchild - Swear Naomi (S&H gift) Top/Bottom/Sarong: Yasum - Alahm Dress: Yasum - Liani Some of the items are discounted at S&H, I think the necklace (which is rigged, yay) and Laura bodysuit are the only things I paid full price for. Bonus: Neither items were discounted, but well worth their full prices IMO: Top: Gawk! - Megan Trousers: Lapointe & Bastchild - Swear Leather Zipp Pants
