  1. For me it depends what they mean. If they tell me something's wrong, like part of me isn't rezzing, or I have splayed fingers or something like that, I'll try to fix it (refresh attachments, re-start my AO or whatever). Often, it's not possible to see that sort of thing on yourself so the only way to know if something needs fixing is when they tell you. But if someone tries to tell me I'm "too fat" or "too manly" or I should wear something "more revealing" or something of that sort, they can take a long walk off a short pier, and I'll tell them so (with language that wouldn't be allowed here).
  2. I'm not familiar with V-Tech specifically but if the skin is Omega only, you need to buy the V-Tech Omega installer. Second Life Marketplace - Omega System Kit - V-Tech Buy it, unpack it, wear it, wear the chest mod at the same time, click the Omega installer. Then wear the skin applier and click it. You may also have to buy the Omega installer for Maitreya as well, if you haven't already done so. If your skin has BOM layers as well, you don't need to use Omega, just use BOM. (if there's a chest in the pack labelled BOM, use that. If not, make a copy, wear it, right-click > Edit, Textures tab, choose "Baked" then "BAKED_UPPER" from the dropdown list). You don't need appliers with BOM, once you've set it up you just wear the system skin. You'll need to change the Maitreya body to BOM as well, but that's easier, just click the BAKES ON MESH button on the Hud. And take off your full body alphas otherwise you'll go all red.
  3. Actually you reminded me of another, though it's going back a few years. I went to a Victorian-themed adult roleplay which required avatars to be properly sized and proportioned. I only went the one time because they required a substantial fee to join the group for full access, and it went out of business after a short while. I guess not enough people wanted to pay that much.
  4. After almost 15 years in SL, and 14 of those years with a male avatar, and male in RL, I can confirm that guys like this are evenly distributed in any non-adult groups. They're in groups that follow DJs and clubs (especially ones playing old-fashioned music like jazz or 1960s themes). Groups for educational or charity organisations. Groups for hobbies. Literally anything and everything that's non-sexual (and not fashion/shopping-related either). What you will not find is any groups specifically and solely for guys like that, because we don't tend to congregate with each other based on appearance. We're far more likely to group up based on a shared interest. You are right that most of the people who don't care about their appearance are often the ones that have been in SL a very long time. They likely are in SL for a specific purpose; teaching or building or running a business, and do nothing else in SL besides that one thing. This is probably why you can't find them - most of them will be permanently on their home building platform or in the private region where their educational/business establishment is located. Flabby cheeks, messy hair and overweight avatars you will not find because they are not easily available in Second Life. Well, there is ONE overweight male body on sale, but anyone using it clearly cares a lot about his appearance (ie spending money on it and making an effort to deliberately look like that) rather than the "I don't care about my appearance at all" types. Same goes for guys with older-looking avatars. It takes a lot more money and effort to make an avatar look older than it does to make one that's the default. Guys that truly don't care will have default classic avatars and starter avatars which are generally taller than average and either slim or muscular. It's my experience that most guys who are in SL for a specific purpose (like education or building or whatever) do not want to waste money on their avatar so they are limited to whatever they can find for free, which these days is very little. If a tall, muscular imposing freebie shape and skin is what they find, then that is what they will have. It's not because they necessarily WANT an avatar like that, it's because the alternatives are too expensive, or too difficult to find, or too complicated to be worth the extra effort. TLDR: If you want to find a man like that, get involved in a non-adult hobby or special interest, learn about it, get involved in SL, meet people in-world. The number of guys like that you'll find in adult regions and sex-related or hook-up groups will be about zero. The only exception to this in general will be gay guys and groups. Gay men are often more focussed on a particular type of guy that they're looking for (bears, twinks, daddies for example) so you do sometimes find groups for gay men that are appearance-based. But they will not be interested in you.
  5. Actually it doesn't, because online status is the one thing that can never be hidden regardless of whether they're on your friends list or not. If you don't want someone to know that you're online at all, then you have to use an alt. And make sure that NONE of your friends know about your alt, because it's likely that one of them is blabbing.
  6. The clothes are real but the avatars are not. They're probably made in something like DAZ, not inworld. They will probably be using an exported body-shape of one of the big brands but the heads, skins and hair will be external assets only. Or else they are morphs using RL photographs. You would not want avatars that realistic in SL, unless you are happy to count your frame-rate in minutes or hours instead of seconds.
  7. Here's my take on Ecru. I love how delicate and fae-like this colour is.
  8. I literally can't see a difference between Ecru and Pearled Ivory, so I loaded @Marianne Little's swatches into Photoshop, and now I see why. Pearled Ivory is R 241, G 228, B 212 and Ecru is R 242, G 229, B 210 (on a scale of 0 to 255). That's a difference of 0.39% on Red and Green, and a difference of 0.78% on Blue, with Ecru being very slightly yellower than Pearled Ivory. But with that small of a difference, they are functionally identical.
  9. Back in the olden-days of making stuff with prims, I used to make and sell furniture in-world. And I got into the habit of counting prims in RL furniture too. I used to wander round RL furniture stores, to figure out how I could make them in SL.
  10. I went to look at Campbell Coast yesterday and completely fell in love with it. I was also surprised to find that rentals were not out of my budget. So... I have a new home!
  11. Not sure the boots are right but I think the dress is close enough.
  12. Except that in this case, the name has to be the name of a RL business that you own and you have to be able to use the Registration API on your own company website.
  13. The usual method is the main account purchases L$ with Paypal/credit card and sends L$ to their alts. Or the funds can come from an in-world business and sent to alts, but in that case it may be that the business account with all the money, and the personal account with no PIOF is actually the main. Many business owners keep their business and personal accounts separate. Or the business owner may be keeping all the money for themselves. If they spend all their earnings in-world and neither cash out nor purchase L$, they don't need payment info on file. This obviously isn't going to be the case for a new account though. Someone may have a sponsor, mentor, sugar-daddy etc (not necessarily a romantic relationship). It's not that unusual for an older player to help a RL friend or family member get started by giving them money to improve their avatar. I think the "already friends in RL" is more likely than "found a SL Sugar-daddy within a few days", though the latter might be possible if adult regions and willingness to do anything in return for those gifts is your thing. There are probably a handful of more obscure and unusual reasons too, but these are the main ones I can think of.
  14. There currently isn't anywhere official. But that doesn't mean there won't be another contest in the future. Maybe. If they run out of names already suggested. No-one here can make it happen, but you can maximise your chances by following the forums regularly.
  15. With a Legacy body, Lelutka Evo or Catwa HD Pro head, a good skin, Doux or Magika for hair, I'd say you could do that now.
  16. The song that rocks my world right now is this one; Inuit rock from northern Canada. I don't have any connection with Canada except that I think the Jerry Cans are awesome. The lead singer reminds me more than a little of Billy Bragg.
  17. Some good ones there, though nothing that appeals to me enough to want to spend another $40 (I already changed mine from the last list)
  18. Economics. With the cost of a name change as high as it is, not many people will do it, so the number of users for each last name will be low. If they had a wider range of names which remain available permanently, they'd be popular for a short while then slow down/stop altogether. That would result in a much reduced ongoing income for Linden Lab for this feature. A narrower range with a regular rotation of names means a regular ongoing income. And the way for two people to get the same last name in a partnership is for BOTH of them to change to one of the currently available names.
  19. Sienna. Actually just picked up this top a day or two ago as a group gift (or midnight mania, I forget which) from Le'La.
  20. /me waves at you from Cheshire (not the posh part).
  21. As far as I can tell, doing it that way doesn't seem to persist through log-ins.
  22. You can in Firestorm, I dunno about the official viewer. In Quick Prefs, go to the Sky setting near the bottom and select the one you want to use. Also make sure that Day Cycle is set to None. This will persist through logins and teleports.
