  1. They probably do. It's likely the creator of the clothing took the photo themselves, either with their own avatar, an alt, or a friend as the model. Either way they probably know (or can find out).
  2. Faces are a combination of three things - a mesh head, a shape which is often personally customised, and a skin with or without makeup and other add-ons. There are almost infinite combinations of these and the only way for anyone to identify them would be to ask the person who made the picture. Hair is usually easier but in this particular case, one image is cropped off and the other one is very small, so probably not many people (if any) will be able to identify it from this picture alone. I looked up the clothing store though, and a lot of the other styles make me think of Doux, so you might want to look there first.
  3. I took this one not long after I started and right at the beginning of Windlight. I thought it was amazing.
  4. Actually I have no idea, and no idea how to do that. I'm not in any way technically-minded and haven't done anything with my antivirus besides default "as recommended" installation and updates. It's apparently been no problem since 2006 and after clearing cache and updating the graphics driver, it doesn't appear to be a problem today.
  5. I did both update my graphics drivers and (reluctantly) clear cache.. One or the other of these things seems to have worked - it's still a little slower than the official viewer but by no means 20 minutes to load a texture, and certainly within tolerable levels. Thanks to @Aishagain and @Rachel1206 for the suggestions.
  6. Ooops actually I was sailing right before I took those specs and forgot to change it. I am usually set around 100 or so, but no it doesn't make any difference to the texture loading. How do I go about finding an up to date driver? And what do I do if it messes everything up and I can't use SL at all any more? Is there a way to revert if it all goes wrong?
  7. Lately, around the past 2-3 weeks or so I have noticed a significant increase in the time it's taking to load some in-world textures. The main symptom is that upon logging in or teleporting, there will be one or two textures that either never load at all, or take around 20 minutes to do so. It's not the same textures each time; in my home, for instance, it may be a table this time, a rug next time etc etc. They don't blur, they just stay grey. If I log off and back again, nine times out of ten the grey texture will rez fine but another different one will be grey. It doesn't seem to be related to texture size and is just as likely to happen with a small texture as a large one. Frame-rate is not affected, only texture-loading. I normally use Firestorm and the problem only affects Firestorm, not the official viewer which is fine. But I REALLY don't want to go back to the official viewer because it lacks so many features that I use constantly. I haven't tried any other viewers. I've tried experimenting with different bandwidth but whether I go as low as 500 or as high as 2000 doesn't seem to make any difference. My internet speed is typically around 25mb/s down and 6.5 to 7 mb/s up and this has not changed recently. I am (and always have) used a cabled internet connection at home, not wi-fi. Nothing has changed with respect to my hardware or internet connection - the only thing that has changed is that about a week before this started, I switched to using MS Chromium Edge instead of Chrome as my desktop browser. I've tried switching back though, with no luck. Specs below, but I'm inclined to think it's not hardware, as the problem didn't start until very recently, and it doesn't occur in the official viewer. I'm more inclined to think it's a settings issue, or a software conflict of some kind. Any suggestions? My PC is a laptop. (Suggestions to upgrade it are welcome when accompanied by a cheque to pay for same).
  8. I'd think this would be pretty easy with either a Kemono mesh body or Maitreya, and M4 Anime head. Second Life Marketplace - <UTILIZATOR> - Kemono Second Life Marketplace - <UTILIZATOR> - M4 Anime Head (Updated! 18 Jul-01) Hair in those exact colours - Truth's "Pastel" range or possibly Exile's older range (their new ones would be too bright). Second Life Marketplace - TRUTH HAIR Coco - pastels (the colour in the bottom left corner looks like a match). Pastel coloured hoodie dress with short skirt (for Kemono): Second Life Marketplace - :: Wretch :: Kemono Hoodie Dress Or for Maitreya: Second Life Marketplace - Cynful Rude Girl Hoodie Dress - Rose Maitreya Lara (+ Petite), Belleza Freya, Legacy (+ Perky) I can't find shoes/stockings exactly like that but these are a similar style; Second Life Marketplace - Sweet Thing. Pet Platforms - Pale Pink (Maitreya, Hourglass, Kemono, Belleza, Physique) Searching for "pastel goth" or "lolita" should find the right style of clothing. Your friend needs to be aware that an avatar looking like this will be banned from a LOT of places because it looks too young. Some places ban anime-style and loli-style avatars on sight, regardless of how old they are supposed to be and how old the actual RL person is. So she will be limited in the places she can go.
  9. Neither, really, but something in-between. Not a mirror but more like an abstract portrait of myself. A representation, not an imitation. My avatar and I do not share anything in common appearance-wise but we share personality, opinions, moral stance etc. My furry forms in particular are symbolic of aspects of myself and my appearance. I started off in SL (14, almost 15 years ago) as a brown horse, but also sometimes a blue one, depending on how I was feeling. The blue one was a symbol of my depression, and the colour I wore would be a guide to my friends of the mood I was in at the time. Over time, the blue one kind of "stuck" and became my stronger fursona (even when I wasn't feeling depressed), and I branched out into blue colours of other animals as well, especially canids. Since my return I'm a blue horse less often and a brown one more often, but I don't think I'm matching that to my moods as deliberately as before. I am also sometimes human now too, which rarely happened at all before.
  10. 1) In theory you are allowed up to 5 separate accounts per household. In practise, Linden Lab won't count them too hard unless one of those accounts gets into some kind of trouble over the TOS. Some people have many more than 5 accounts. Most people don't. Even so, I believe there is (or was?) a hard limit of 5 accounts per email address. You can have as many avatars (different body shapes/appearances) on one account as you like. 2) You are allowed to, if you wish, but there is no special place in the profile to do that, you just put them in the main text-box. There's a way to make them clickable, but I don't know how.
  11. This is one of the outfits I rejected as too dark when I was trying to do Lemon. I quite like the colour, though I'm not as fond of that bold print.
  12. @Luna Bliss is probably right - I bet you're a member of a group (or more than one group) that is set to show in Search and the role you're in within that group has you down as liable for payment of that fee. You'll lose between L$1 and L$30 per week, depending on how many other people are also paying. It's even possible to end up tens of thousands into the red because of group fees.
  13. I didn't bother with Artbreeder when it told me that it would take up to an hour to process, so I skipped straight to the next step. No idea how to convert it to a gif but I was disappointed. It doesn't look as good as SL animations and it seems a bit "off", especially the eye movements.
  14. I tried it with my favourite pic that I've ever done in SL... Thats better than I hoped, and yet another from the same set... Another two faves of mine, it likes the tennis one but not the other... I tried it with a bunch more, and it seems not to like "quick snapshot" type pics, the sort you might take on holiday, with a full-length portrait in the middle of a relatively cluttered background. The better-scoring ones tended to be ones with more interesting composition. Pics taken indoors fared better than outdoor scenes and completely plain backgrounds fared very badly. It's not to keen on "adult" pics either, (it can identify when you're naked, it puts that in the tags) and most of those got very low scores, even the ones that have gotten the most "likes" on Flickr. It hates furries too. Not one of my furry pics scored higher than absolute zero. Not even when it thinks they're "cute". (And since when was a buckskin horse "caucasian"??)
  15. Aside from the possibility that the seller has sold you an empty box (whether accidentally or deliberately), there's another possibility. IF the gacha box attaches to your screen as a hud, and you click to unpack, you may not get the item because some unpacker scripts can't unpack a no-copy item if the box is worn - they are trying to COPY the item into your inventory and obviously a no-copy item won't copy. In this case, you should rez the box/hud on the ground instead, open it the old-fashioned way. (Right click, Open, Copy to Inventory).
  16. I have two sandy beach parcels on waterfront that I'm willing to sell. Both 1024m, in Relleri, Nautilus continent, on north coast, plenty of sailing access, can easily get all the way to Corsica from here, and as far as the Blake Sea (via the Corsica coast) if you're patient enough. Most of the surrounding land is hilly and abandoned. Beach cabins included, keep or return as you wish. Both listed for L$9000 but open to reasonable offers. Parcel 1 is mostly flat low-lying beach with a small amount of water on the north side. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Relleri/80/214/21 Parcel 2 is about 50:50 land/water with a sloping beach, can go mostly flat by terraforming. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Relleri/86/241/22
  17. I'm late to this, but its a very interesting thread. I've lived in almost every type of land in SL - on private island rental, on regular mainland, and Linden homes old and Bellisserian. On the whole, regular mainland is my favourite, Bellisseria second, a good private estate third and old style LL homes last. This is my view too. Islands feel isolated. Even the ones that are part of larger multi-region estates often give an impression of isolation; no roads or rivers, you're stuck in your own parcel and everywhere else is private and rented by someone else. Unless its attached to a public space like a store, a club or something similar, in which case you have endless lag to deal with. That's incredible. I am in awe. It depends for me on what the object is and the degree of encroachment. If it's a tree leaning over my fence or a circling bird or some other bit of landscaping that enhances the area, I let it be. If it's a plywood cube or a box with an advert on it, or if it's anything with fullbright set on it, I'll return it. If it's encroaching so far that it's poking through the walls of my house, or using up my prim allowance, I'll return it. If it's not encroaching at all but is just ugly, I de-render it. One time I bought a really cheap parcel amongst a collection of other really cheap parcels and needless to say they soon filled up with crap. I ended up de-rendering everything on all the parcels surrounding mine, except for one which had a lovely garden. If it's ugly and against the TOS (like hate speech or something really vulgar in a Moderate region, or illegal ad-farms) I'll AR it first then de-render it.
  18. You know, when I was a little kid, there was another kid my age who lived on my street, we were about 7 years old at the time. And this other kid, she was incapable of imaginitive play. She just could not grasp the concept of "make-believe" or "fiction" or "imagination". Similar to aphantasia I guess, but maybe broader in scope. I wonder if some people in SL are like that. They can't separate SL from RL because they can't comprehend a concept that is "not RL". I can't compehend what it must be like to lack that capability.
  19. And that is exactly why I don't share anything about my RL. The way I want, is to be someone different for a while. That's why I am in SL. I want to be different from RL, that's why I'm frequently a furry. The internet is full of different social medias for "being yourself" and sharing RL. Second Life wasn't created for doing that, Philip Rosedale's vision was a platform where people could use and express their imaginations in any way they wanted, however bizarre or unlike RL. It wasn't until fairly recently that the viewer even included the facility to connect with external social media. When I am in the mood for RL things, then I log out of SL and go do the RL things. My avatar is effectively a roleplaying character which does not exist outside of SL. I do not have a different personality and I do not make up lies about my RL, I just do not share RL info at all (besides my time-zone and my native language, plus the usual non-personal trivia like what I had for breakfast and what is my favourite colour and stuff like that). I am not worried about what people think, It's just not anyone else's business but mine. It's my experience that 90% of people who want RL info from others are only interested in getting laid, and the remaining 10% are only interested in getting money and/or making business deals. I'm not interested in either, so anything about RL is totally irrelevant to my SL experience. I don't get why the "RL-demanders" even come to SL in the first place. They'd be much better off on Facebook or Linked-In or OK Cupid. SL is terrible for what they want because it's so full of people who want something different.
  20. As long as you keep "no public build" and "no object entry" on your own land, it shouldn't impact your business at all.
