"Profit" is generally understood to mean that a person or company is personally gaining a profit... Charity is different and has always been understood differently because charity is for a cause... hence the term Not-for-profit organization. Perhaps the biggest example of that in Second Life is the Relay For Life which happens every year or some of the other various causes. The mole's response was good and I would trust it if it comes from Patch... it certainly answered my own questions about it too... Over in Bellisseria many of us have some sort of logo over our little public RP spot. We dont have tip jars or accept donations we just offer up our homes as a public place that people can visit... Even one of the Linden created spots has a logo or "branding" if you go to the houseboat area and wander onto a popular little public spot called "The Squishy Pickle" there is a sign and a logo but its just something that was created for fun... If my neighbor wanted to create a big sign for his house that said "Bob lives here" it would be a logo one could even argue its a brand.... but its not for profit it would just be to let people know... Hey this houseboat is Bob's place... I'm sure the same concept applies to the SLB places... Logo is for something that will advertise for profit then you cant do it... if its just a fun logo for something that is not for profit then it is just a fun logo.

Boatslips will always be one of two kinds of dimensions... the square ones are 32 x 32 meters and the long ones are 16 x 64 meters

Beauty & the Squirrel...

That is not the lion share of most pay to join groups... most are probably merchants and probably less than 200 L. Personally I could care less about the minority of folks that charge a super heavy fee... they were already greedy before the change. I'm more interested in how it effects the more typical pay to join groups.

I know there are groups out there like that before the change the question is how will it effect most of the pay to join groups... i'm sure there will be a lot of experimentation. For me if I'm gonna pay to join at least give me a benefit like a membership reduction of price in merchandise or something. The worst are the exclusive pay to join clubs. I've left pretty much all of those except for 1 that my wife likes and that's really only for her benefit otherwise I would have left that one too

My 2L on the group changes As a premium member... I actually reduced my own groups just a day or two before this announcement... I have exactly 32 groups... Premium account under the new basic membership cap... There is an advantage to less groups anyways... less spam... less ims... less random ims from people that "found you in a group"... really I don't need MORE group spots as a premium and if I was basic 35 would be just fine... Also on people charging money to be in a group... I'm so tired of that... i just dumped a bunch of groups I had paid to get into at some point cause I'm tired of feeling locked into a group i don't really use anymore anyways and if their club is that exclusive to be part of then maybe its not really a club for me anyways. I can understand the stores wanting to do a really small charge (say under 50L) just to discourage trolls and griefers but really why would you want to charge your customers a high fee to be in a group for you to advertise to them... you should want your customers in your group! Maybe Linden Labs lowering the amount of groups might make some of these places rethink their group charges... If I was basic and just had my groups capped to a lower amount I would be far more selective about groups I join and less likely to buy into some of these pay to join ones.

Just a small update to the Bellisseria Squirrel. I did some final touches on the exterior last night including this really cool Stern to aft set of faux masts with the nation flags from them... even added a cute little Crowsnest to one of them since we are in the sim of Crowsnest. Its open for visitors anytime so please please come check it out... We have a pool, bumper boat rezzer, great little dance area with loaded dance machines, plenty of places to cuddle up, you can even rez out your own boat there if you need a little boat launch... http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Crowsnest/247/71/22

It might not cost to switch from group to a single because of the grace period... when a land no longer has the correct number of land tier to support it you get a warning (ie... a group member that was donating pulls out etc...) at that point the land does not immediately go back to Linden Labs but you have a window of time to get it back in order... so in theory you could pull all your tier donation out of your own land, then tier down with all your alts, tier up with your main, then sell it from group to yourself... Again this is just a theory... there may be a restriction applied to selling land that does not have enough tier currently covering it. You would need to research that out or possibly ask one of the land barons who knows more about these things... I do remember a long time ago having to do something similar to this when I needed to change my land from one group over to another group.

I think that may all change though if at some point they fiddle with the tier levels... some people have suggested they might. If mainland tier goes down at some point then suddenly having so many premium alts might not be as big of an advantage. Currently I have 4 avatars total I have premium on. 2 of those are paying a tier level on top of the cost. I'm doing a minor land dump this month so I can tier down on 1 of the two which is going to make the increase almost a complete wash... But then it sorta depends on how much land do you have, how much of it is really necessary and how much is rainy day land. So I think a lot of the hubbub of today may hinge on any changes they may make in the tier levels at a future date.

Then you are benefiting from the Ls... the point is you do spend them in some way that gives you a benefit... in your case you use it to offset the cost of premium so the Ls are valuable

Just a thought since you are new. SL just created a new continent called Bellisseria that the new Linden homes are located in. But, even if you don't live there the community is popping right now since its so new and exciting. You could go into search on SL and go to the groups tab and look for groups that begin with the word Bellisseria then join the top 2 populated groups (Citizens and Community I think). I think you will find both of those groups very active with all sorts of discussion and invites to parties on the continent. And you can meet people of all walks of life there too. If you like it a lot you may even want to end up living there eventually.

Ok so with every good intention I offered up my place to be home to the Bellisseria Squirrel... Well... she went in and changed the name of my home from "Eva's Home" to "Bellisseria Squirrel & Eva" 🙄

I'm going to file my BIG news here today... First of all Thank you to everyone who has given me support in these forums as I have waited to get a home in Bellisseria... Tonight I finally did... I landed a Houseboat just like what I wanted and even got it in the Atoll just a couple of sims north of the Squishy Pickle... The reason I am posting this here is that my gain is also the Belliseria Squirrel's gain too! I had planned on doing my Squirrel reveal the very day I landed a home and so I want to follow through with that intension. No need to worry though the little critter is not going anywhere... But Eva is my boring non-rp main avie while I will be using Squirrel as a way to immerse myself into the growing RP scene of Belliseria. Oh and here is the new Houseboat!

Doesn't work like that... if someone abandons a plot it goes straight back into the pool where everyone has a shot at it. You can't simply pass it on to another person

that's exactly what we did... basically every resident on the sim was affected, even many of the linden owned things disappeared too... They fixed that very quick too... probably within a couple hours of filing the ticket it was fixed

Oh gawd my wife had that happen to her in one of the Nautilus sims... Entire sim had HUGE amounts of stuff randomly sent back... The whole sim looked like it was in a post apocalypse

That sounds very strange... i would be interested to see if this is isolated to your plot or if others had that happen too... To be sure though double check to make sure they are rezzed for that group, I seem to remember rezzing things once having a particular group on but somehow they were rezzing out under a different group.
