That's great for you that you had luck, for most people this is not going to be the case though, and check my number of posts in the forums... I have been in SL for over 12 years and never felt a need to even come to the forums before this. Why? Because LL's communication on this has been entirely poor... I only learned about the new continent & houseboats by word of mouth. You shouldn't have to comb the website for info, on big important things like this a little inworld message now and then from LL would be appreciated but its still going to end up being the folks who camp who usually get those... I'm sure you and a few others stumbled onto lucky timing or whatnot but I would be willing to guess the lion share of people who got those lots were folks who were mostly in the know cause they have 10,000 messages already in the forums and/or camp these pages for info and started hitting the refresh button on turbo to get a house. Honesty give me an old fashioned line... I'm happy to wait my turn rather then to either rely on "dumb luck" or obsessive compulsive page refreshing.
I'll probably hold onto my 1024 tier a little longer, but if a piece of mainland comes up that I want and is not insanely expensive I'll probably buy that. I like the idea of having one of these lots for probably the same reasons most people want them. You get a guaranteed plot in a community that is not going to turn into some gigantic mall or gaming center. The lots are not right on top of each other and look relatively nice. Houseboats are people's favorites I would guess because of water access you just don't get that with the other houses and really there is no other advantage to getting a house without water. Most people know that and that's why there is a demand for the houseboats... if you look at mainland in general, protected water lots go for a premium while landlocked plots largely sit in an abandoned state, you cant even give them away
You obviously have your opinion, I have mine too... going to just have to agree to disagree on this
