Thanks Suella,

I had fun following your instructions and playing with images.

So no chance I can change that awful white blob that has Posts and Topics in it?  I notice yours doesn't have that.  I didn't pre choose any of the 4 background images they offered.

I will have to work this out somehow, I don't seem to be getting a "Browse" option, but I was wondering if it was becase I hadn't ever posted anything on the forums before. I was trying to set up a feel for it before the fashion discussions coming up next week.

Thank you for the helpful tips! I got half way there at least, I'll keep fiddling.

Haven't been to this thread for a while. Thanks for all the thanks from everyone! Glad to see you all have super, sexy badges :)

I do! Do you like my outrageously saracastic new animated badge? :D

If I get a spare moment I might try to do an update here with how to create animated badges (but, in short, you create an image with all the layers you want for each animation phase and save it as an animated GIF file. It can be a bit tedious though as you'll need to get all the layers overlayed correctly so that the transitions don't look too jerky! You can also record a short video in SL and save that as an animated GIF.

I'm sorry to revive this rather old thread. But just like Ember I wanted to get a feel for the forum first, before I started posting. This tutorial is very helpful, but I also don't seem to get the "browse" option to upload my own profile picture.

There hasn't been any reply to Ember's comment yet (and it looks like she managed to have her custom badge now). So is it a fact that you can only create and upload your own badge if you've done a certain amount of forum posts, or at least one?

** edit: Indeed, writing your first post does the trick (for those of you who are also wondering).

Thanks for the great tutorial!

For future Googlers:

After installing the Firebug add-on:

1. Under the Social Connect tab on the My Settings page, click the theme thumbnail for Tokyo Madness to activate that theme.

2. Now, right-click the same thumbnail, and select Inspect Element with Firebug.

3. You'll see a slice of code open in the bottom half of the window, with a chunk something like

<img class="skin-thumbnail" border="0" />

hilighted.

4. Scroll up a little from what's hilighted, you're looking for a line that reads

<input id="lia-portraitBadgeTheme_0" type="hidden" name="lia-portraitBadgeTheme" value="tb_tokyomadness">

5. Click on the part that reads "tb_tokyomadness" and it should turn editable. Change it to tb_none and press Tab once.

6. Back on the settings form ("Create a Profile Badge"), scroll to the bottom and click the Save button.

The page should refresh and the preview on the right should now look like the default, no-settings style.

EDIT: You will still have the same background image, so set that before you do this little hack.
