  1. I have to laugh at this from P Neva: "For the last day, I've been griefed on multiple sims and parcels by the same old Woodbury/PN style griefer with the same creepy effigy of myself -- a high-prim horror. " I mean, what genius! You argue and ban anyone who doesn't comply with "your" mainland rules, and then get irritated by griefers who make effigies of you! It's given me the biggest laugh. Thankyou!
  2. Hi Indigo. As the founding member of Commune Utopia community over 6 years ago, i also had the same dilemma when reality got too much and I had to radically rethink how the community would be run and evaluate if all the land was needed etc. After debating with many others, a wonderful soul came to the rescue and donated a whole sim, a larger village of rentals was created, regular music events and art galas happen , and the community understands that unfortunately nothing is free in sl, everyone has to chip in if these artistic and free thinking communities are to survive. That's what you need to press on your existing community... Tier is needed and although it would be amazing if someone steps out of the blue to rescue it, please look at all other options within your own community.
  3. I'd love to add my community to the mix... we're a very friendly and active village of hippies and freethinkers, we welcome all to our varied events - live music on Wednesdays and parties every single day with our fun DJs. The village has one vacancy at the moment - twelve simple huts with a central mingling area! Search for Commune Utopia and meet your new family <3
  4. Oh dear Vecchio. You were extremely kind and generous but it sounds like you threw your money down a bit deep well, never to be seen again. I'd recommend donating any beneficiary lindens to established businesses or at least know the person really well as there's just so many dreamers in SL who never quite manage to get their project off the ground. I haven't even mentioned the scammers yet. I wish everyone who had a beautiful vision like the person above could walk for a moment in my shoes and see the work it takes to get a place to and running and then sustain it for five years... That's why I offered for her to come and visit and chat, but of course it was a no show. Peace, love and cakes, Sedi x
  5. I had a very rude response from Steph on another issue, but now I see it's just her personality. Steph... You can't possibly know everything, and sometimes it's OK to back down and agree that someone else has more expertise than you. Hope you manage to calm those aggression issues <3
  6. I wanted to send you virtual hugs and only wish i could give you real ones too. Coping with a chronic illness is not easy - I've had the same, before SL existed - and I can only imagine how SL has become a lifeline for you, not only with the business that you can pick up and drop when you feel like it, but how your active, well avatar has reinvigorated you when your reality has seemed a little depressing. What you need is a community of kind, thoughtful people who won't judge. My community has many creators and thinkers, some of whom have revealed they have certain illnesses or disabilities in reality, but we take each day as it comes. If you want to try us out, search Commune Utopia inworld, or look me up. We love cakes and hugs, and discussions and dancing. You will soon find a new lease of life in SL - with a little help from your (new) friends.
  7. Plenty of men in rl use a female avatar to express their feminine feelings. I even know of a woman in rl who uses a male avatar as she feels masculine. Gender is fluid, as is sexuality... Everyone has a right of expression <3
  8. Sometimes there is no other way, after being harassed by throw away alts out to cause trouble and drive people away from a well established community. As it is, I've decided to not have a security orb as I believe the actions of one disturbed person should not impact everyone's freedom. However for those clubs and communities that do have it, their reasoning had been thought out, nobody wants to stop people visiting, but it has to reflect the happiness of the community as a whole. There are many people in sl who need to grow up and not grief. As a new person, you may not have met the destruction they can bring yet.
  9. Steph, don't knock someone when they're trying to help. You may think mentors are a bore, but to someone else they can be a lifeline. SL has a huge learning curve that people soon forget when they've been here years.
  10. Hi. I don't own the land .. It's rented... but I have the full support of the sim owner (one of the Chung's). She has advised me that only avatars under real life age of 18 can be banned from entry.
  11. Anyone got any tips on how to deal with an annoying issue? Unstable person is banned from my open community, returns with multiple alts that upset my community with negativity and religious hectoring, alts are banned as soon as we realise (I have 16 people who have banning rights, 50 people who can eject). I also get abusive messages from original member every time she has been in with an alt, saying she will "destroy" my community. Is there a way we can stop alts that are less than one month old from entering without the use of a whitelist orb (impossible with 1800+ members). Thanks for any advice.
  12. Hello Dani, I understand that your intentions are good, but having been in SL for 8 years and run a community for 5 of those, I have to say that SL attracts damaged people that need real life help not some well meaning platitudes. I've had to deal with people coming to me with long term depression, bipolar issues, gender reassignment issues, people who are not accepted in their reality because they are gay or different ... And every time I have said to these people, here's helplines in reality, here's websites, I'm not trained to help you. Even if I really felt like I wanted to and of course there are times, I wouldn't want something to go wrong, mislabelling someone's psychosis etc, and for it to be my fault because I hadn't handled it correctly.
  13. We have plenty of Kiwis and Aussies at Commune Utopia! Come join us!!
  14. Commune Utopia has a 24/7 community, lots of Aussies, Kiwis, South Africans, Brits and Europeans that are up and dancing and debating at that time! Then the Americans wake up a little later!
  15. Hi Veronica! yes we recently celebrated four years of Commune Utopia in SL We are at this very moment having a new year's eve party that is running all day so do come and find us! <3
  16. Hi Mae. I've had a community in sl for over 4 years now and believe me there is no golden rule about popularity. People take time to find out about places and when they did arrive, in the early days, they were encouraged to bring a friend back, join the group and also make the place a pick. This really helped to spread the word as all new traffic came from word of mouth. I then made the venue very open to everyone's ideas... Anyone can start a DJ party providing they have their own stream, anyone in the group of 1800 can rezz anything to use (and tidy away again after!), and anyone can use group notices and chat to feel included and spark ideas. This works really well as the onus is not on me as owner to constantly be thinking of things to do when the group can think of things themselves and then put the plan into action! The other thing I did which helps with group harmony, is to make 15 trusted friends " helpers " or security when I'm not online... They have almost as many powers as I do to eject and ban. This makes the group feel very safe. There are also around 200 welcomers on all time zones who take pride in showing people around as they enter the community plot. We have various events timed every week and collaborate with other places similar to us, exchanging LM givers. We are also on The Road, a new sim connection syste that might be useful to you. Hope this has been useful and don't worry... Up to Christmas is always quieter! I'd be happy to show you around and talk more if you'd like.
  17. That's quite mean. Madeline helps a lot of people in the forums. Plus sometimes people can't get in world but they can access the forums on their phones for instance (as I'm doing right now) and want to post things...
