A Thousand Words

“A Thousand Words” is a collaborative Second Life photography project dedicated to expression through creative imagery. For their inaugural exhibition, Second Life Residents created photographs inspired by renowned poet Pablo Neruda’s “Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair.” Enable advanced lighting, shared environment, and media to fully appreciate this immersive experience. This exhibit is open from November 1st to 21st.

Filthy Fluno’s Return to SL at the Janus Gallery

Filthy Fluno is a Second Life Art legend! His shows made waves in the SL art community and RL alike. 15th Annual SL Veterans Tribute

The 15th Annual SL Veterans Tribute is a way to honor and pay tribute to Veterans around the world. You can walk around the sights and memorials, add the names of your loved ones to the wall, or sit in a reflective spot and relax. The goal of the Tribute is to provide a non-political, content-filled destination in Second Life where Residents can visit to provide remembrance and honor to those who have served in the Armed Services. This memorial will be open until November 15th.

Diwali Event

S9 Events runs different events every three months and currently, they are hosting the Diwali Event! Are you an RP region or clothing designer? Come and join this 5-week event which ends on November 14th. Booth rentals have started already, so come and pick out the perfect location.

Escapades Adventures is a selection of free-to-play quests to enjoy on your own or with friends. The aim was to give Second Life users fun experiences that are simple, casual, and fun. New Quests will be added over time!

Second Pride is back for Halloween, and it’s dark, a bit spooky, with lots of fun awaiting your arrival! Check out the many things they have to offer, from the Library Escape Room to the Shell-Shocked ride. Maybe play a round or two of Halloween mini-golf! Share some laughs, and visit the many shops located all around the region while you visit. Who knows, you may even spot a zombie lurking! You never know what surprises await. Hauntings

Moody, ghostly, creepy, and fun, Hauntings is another delightful venue in Old Town. Once a charming and peaceful spot in rural America, when the events began happening, folks moved away. No cars stopped at the motel; the farm lies abandoned. What happened here? What went on in that house? No-one knows. But once a year, the spirits of those who were innocent walk, looking for treats.

Pictured: Whitby - Birth of Dracula

This may be the final weekend you are able to visit some of the amazing spooky locations in the Haunted category on the Destination Guide. I have featured many throughout the month and Tara Linden and I also went through a couple of haunted experiences in today's Lab Gab.  

Here are destinations that I haven't featured in a highlights blog post yet this year. A lot of these are closing right after Halloween, so visit soon. The remaining ones will stay in the Haunted category until they close. Happy Halloween!

Whitby - Birth of Dracula

Whitby is a real seaside town and port, in the northeast of England. It was here in 1890 that Bram Stoker was inspired to write his novel Dracula. The Town is now also famous for its Steampunk weekend once a year when it is overrun by the weird and wonderful. This build by Hera (zee9) is based far more on the FF Coppola Movie than the book and is nothing much at all like reality. It also has a very strong Lovecraftian feel and is sort of English Innsmouth. Visit this destination in 1880s, Victorian, Vampire, and Steampunk apparel. Enjoy and Happy Halloween!

The Scarlett Hotel

Welcome to DRD's first immersive game/hunt: The Scarlett Hotel! Its numerous deaths and disappearances over the years have made this hotel infamous for its hauntings. Hushed is an after-dark adventure at Dreamz Farm. Second Pride Glitter & Gore 2021

Second Pride's Glitter & Gore runs from 10/22-10/31. All proceeds will be donated to The Ali Forney Center, a non-profit providing shelter and healthcare to homeless LGBTQ youth in NYC. With 10 days of live performances from DJs, Singers, Dancers, and Media Artists, this is an event to bring everyone together for a scary good time on their Hellscape stage and dance floor.

Unveiled at Sinful Retreat

Bryn Oh, Cica Ghost, and Walton F. Wainwright will unveil an exquisite corpse sculpture to be a centerpiece for the Sinful Retreat region. Also celebrating the installations of the many artists on the region with performances from Semina, Jovan Buchsbaum, Skye Galaxy, Oblee, and DJ ILLSKILLZ on October 24th from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM SLT.

Manifestations NL

Manifestations_NL is one of the virtual locations of the Dutch Design Week, the largest RL event of its kind in Northern Europe. This year the Manifestations theme is 'Monsters'. - Several 3D artists are involved: Such as Bryn Oh, Avatar Orchestra Metaverse, DFM RTV INT, FOCUS@Coppelia, t r y p t v c r y p t, Fau Ferdinand, Patrick Moya, Nebulosus Severine, Vanessa Blaylock, Meta Lord, Caro Fayray, d-oo-b, SaveMe Oh and others. They can be found through the special temporary Manifestations land in SL. On this island, you will find portals to the various artworks, the Zombie Crawl, Monster Truck Race, experimental live performances, dance parties, and more. The event runs from October 17th to 25th.

We have over 100 Haunted Destinations currently on the Second Life Destination Guide, and there will be more coming over the next couple of weeks. There are also some wonderful events going on that we wanted to highlight today.

I went through the Boystown Haunted Experience today and it is incredible! I screamed several times, so many jump-scares! It's kind of like an escape room idea, and I made it to the end! Check out their trailer on YouTube.

There are a couple of events and one destination that are opening this weekend that I wanted to highlight:

• Rock Your Rack 2022 - The 10th Annual Rock Your Rack Event runs from October 1-16 and raises funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Find it under Featured Events starting October 1st!
• Out Shop Cancer 2022 - Out Shop Cancer is a shopping event and grid-wide hunt running from October 1- 31 benefitting the American Cancer Society. Find it under Featured Events starting October 1st!
• Nightmare in New Orleans - A new haunted and realistic destination of virtual New Orleans, in a post-apocalyptic and dystopic environment. It is incredibly well done and opens to the public on October 2nd. Find it in Editors Picks starting then!

Her built environment is a nod to simulated climates of outdoor waterparks. Not unlike the whimsically painted concrete and themed backdrops alluding to paradise within completely manmade terrain. In this installation, she critiques the materiality of simulated natural environments, a motif we may end up seeing more of as our myriad of climates progressively alter.

Avilion

Avilion is a medieval fantasy role play, combat, and arts land. On the weekend of September 18th to 20th, 2020, they will be celebrating their 14th Annual Medieval Harvest Festival. It is a full weekend of games, events, parties, surprises, and celebration of community in a magical autumn landscape that has consistently drawn crowds over its long life. All are welcome. Since they are a medieval community, they ask that visitors wear medieval clothing. Free outfits available at the gate.
