  1. I agree. Something like a week-long event, "Starts at Noon Sunday SL Time and Ends Noon Sunday SL Time the following week.
  2. @Katt Dragoone - I know this is a necro'd thread from your perspective, but what the heck, may as well reply to the original post: Pick the rez zone of a continent (Bellisseria is especially fun for this). Open the world map and click a point at the opposite side of the continent. Then close the map, leave the beacon there. Now, without ever opening the world map and only the minimap as your guide: Find you way to that beacon. It's not really a "road trip" as described with overnight stays, etc., but it's the next best thing and can be loads of fun. The next best thing to this is as @animats described: Drivers of SL - you don't have to join the group, but you should landmark their HQ location where you can grab the HUD every week. The Grid Drive is a waypoint-based exploration drive, sometimes it is theme-based with a story to it and it's definitely better and more fun that GTFO. GTFO is great last resort when you're desperate to dissuade boredom. As for my GTFO comment: the problem with GTFO is there is no risk, you cannot lose, even if you try to. You'd have to be hell-bent on losing if that's what you want to do. Basically all it is is a "Point A to Point B" hud and otherwise entirely pointless (they've been talking about a leaderboard for years: still nothing that I've seen, but I gave up looking some time ago.) You don't even have to reach the destination location, just enter the region and you're done there. So if you want to give that a go: grab the free version, then decide if it's worth L$600 to level-up beyond the limits of the free version.
  3. @rkgddg : I don't know it this would suit your purposes, but I have used this system and it works to spreading a sound all over: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/BOATech-Sim-Wide-Jukebox-No-Land-Ownership-Required/13507466 HOWEVER, if the "satellite" objects are within sound distance of other satellites or the main jukebox and they get out of sync: it does sound weird. Also, the Jukebox object is really just a bonus, the notecard encourages you to put the scripts (and sound files) into other objects, like scenery such as a rock, houseplant, etc. I don't know if this is what you're looking for or not, but what the heck, it's cheap. LOL
  4. Why would you assume anyone thinks it's hard? It's about convenience and efficiency. Why does anyone use Firestorm, other than the need for RLV? What's so hard about doing everything it does (which you can do) through the usual LL Viewer methods? I rest my case.
  5. Best trains in SL are from Bibian. I have many, this one was designed specifically for Bellisseria: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/OeBB-626-Service-Train-SLRR/18268875 If you want a fully train proper, then it needs to all be linked, in that case there is only one I know of (and it's very good) from Atomic Infinity: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/Infinity-Freight-Trains-v11/14080171 Both are GTFO-enabled. One special thing of note: The Bibian can be switched into revers and go both directions. Otherwise most (if not all) SL trains, including these I point to, have a "Flip" function that will flip them to the opposite direction. They also do wonderfully of the Heterocera SL RR system (and the systems on other continents, but those are so short they may not be worth the time.) Also, the Bibian comes with a fun "tools" cart that is the second car of the set, but I Bellisseria this will not work unless you have someone sitting on it (which you can.)
  6. I think people are overthinking this. As for cheaters, that only matters if there is some first-place prize or whatever. If it's nothing but a leaderboard of recorded times, then who cares? As for the checkpoints, this is where organization comes in: As in @animats example: a coordination with a few LL Home owners along the route who would be willing to allow these waypoint markers to be rezzed on their parcels. Based on his description the timers, etc., are already in-built so no need for HUDS, etc. Set the start point at some north coast vehicle rez point and the finish line at some south coast vehicle rez zone. Then maybe only five waypoints; divide Bellisseria proper into five sections and place a waypoint anywhere within each one. The first and last waypoints being the start and finish lines. That's all there is to it. Some place where a leaderboard of time scores can be reviewed by participants. As for scripted "cruise control", etc., I'm not so sure that would be all that beneficial as route-navigation to hit each waypoint would also be a huge part of the time score. As before, I'm just thinking aloud, more or less.
  7. Ummm... if your cool "server side AO" is already six years old, then wouldn't that make the "server side AO" capability not "new"? [Rhetorical rephrase: "wouldn't that make Firestorm behind the power-curve of technology and behind the times?"] Don't mind me, just thinking aloud, here.
  8. That's actually pretty easy: remove people, the fewer people; the less lag. Or make all others beyond yourself a jelly doll.
  9. The forum host just needs to update their SSL certificate. it's no big deal. Google already has more personal private information on you than anyone could possibly steal from you on these forums.
  10. Bellissarian South Coast Sunrise I don't think I've ever made this many posts in such a short period of time in this thread. Ever. But I'm having way too much fun with visuals. This is just another example of how I get to see SL all over again, and with the same or even better performance I got with all the other viewers. It's like an entirely new graphics engine on the grid, I cannot help but to be awestruck. And this is default camera view, other than a mouse wheel backward a flip to show a little more.
  11. With Session, it will be the newest BOM only skins - try those demos and set windlight to calWL for best studio lighting. You also may beed to turn up graphics to Ultra on all sliders where they apply, at least temporarily. The reason is because that seam always will be there whether we see it or not because the head is actually a separate texture (so is the torso separate from the pelvis and legs - so there's also a seam at the belt line that most people *never* notice! Baahahaha!) Thus, the trick is to hide it as best as possible. And remember also to turn off all effects of Legacy.
  12. This is awesome! I'm gonna have to give it a go. As for the age of things, I've learned that doesn't always matter. I still have my cage-orbit gun from 2006 and it still works (on alt only, I wouldn't dare on anyone else because I'm now too invested in this account! LOL)
  13. I had Deetalez and Session, then purchased a full permissions PSD and made my own. The one I did myself I created a full head-to-toe skin layer. The same with the Session (BOM only skin) - is full head to toe. The Deetalez is separate: skin for body and tattoo layer for head. So there will still be a very faint seam in some wind lights, but not all.
  14. The BelliSLRR is almost complete! Only a couple spot left to tweak, many of the road-crossing gates aren't working yet (though many are), and the junction switches aren't working yet. But ALL the track is alive. I went from Campsite rez zone to Campwich Forest near the lodge, did a full loop (all the way around and until I returned to Campwich) - then continued again until, at the junction to go south, I had to cheat (Edit to place myself on the southbound tracks, because the switch isn't working) - then went along on my merry way all the way over the mountain pass, then down through Willow Tree country to the station at the very bottom of Bellisseria. And it's a beautiful, nay: gorgeous drive the entire trip!
  15. Genus Babyface, Legacy, both set to Bakes on mesh, and a head-to-toe system layer skin and Black Dragon viewer (which has better dynamic range than the others, so truer colors without the harshness). Though even on Firestorm and Catznip, the seam isn;t there in most wind lights.
  16. I agree. And another tip to prevent the bullseye look: CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+ Arrow keys to set your camera off-center. Because #Rule-of-Thirds! Hahaha. And these are SL commands, works in any and all viewers!

  18. Whoa... I'm not good at event planning, but if anyone ever decides to do something like this, please let me know as I would love to help out! hahaha! I love Drivers of SL weekly drive (though this week was... I'll just say I didn't like it LOL)
  19. Yeah, comments like those pop-up from different people every once in a while. Like many, I see this thread as not only a picture gallery, but also as a resource for those wanting to do better than they are now. And with that said, I'll give away my secret sauce: I try to never take my snapshots with the default camera; I almost always CTRL+0 six to eight times to "zoom" the image. It's what is called "Compressing the Field of View" in camera-speak, but what many do not realize is that it also removes the simulated lens distortion and "flattens" that, so the true avatar (or subject) shape comes through. (Another PRO-TIP: Do this when editing shape to see the true shape and you'll look amazing afterward.) In my Ballet image in a previous post, I did the opposite: CTRL+8 two or three time to make a wider shot to get more of the theatre balconies in-frame, even though it adds more distortion. Think "Fisheye lens" - even though it doesn't go that far. SO PRO-TIP: CTRL+0 and CTRL+8 are your best friends when snapshotting. (And CTRL+9 resets camera to default). So alt-cam, move camera back, away from subject, CTRL+0 four to eight times to get that look. Then turn on Depth of Field and voila!
  20. According to the Firestorm team comments about the bridge and what it does, it was mentioned that it also is used to handle the viewer AO. So if you're able to detach it, are you sure it's not being forced to reattach after a couple minutes? Just asking as it seems to be whatI recall, but I dumped FS for myself a long time ago,. EDIT: OH! I see @Wulfie Reanimator's comment that explains how it can be done now. LOL I'm not a techno-guru, so I'm not aware about how they're always changing things around under the hood.
  21. This was always the plan, the original SSP continent showed Bellisseria in its full size from day one. So when they started placing it, in smaller chunks, we always knew what its full size would be, the shape of it, and that those water sims were just place-holders. The one odd thing is ho far separated the main continents are. Perhaps LL did it that way back in the day to leave room for future expansion (they were building continents like gangbusters back then). It would be awesome sauce if they would move those estate regions out of the way and then reposition the Easternmost continents closer to the Western ones, then add a water sim or two to connect the. That would be a major boon to the entire grid and the morale would go through the rook. At least temporarily until people started complaining about it all. LOL
  22. I agree. There's a big difference in the atmosphere between "they are doing it for the love of making money" and "They are doing it for the love of doing it." When I was learning Ballet long time ago, our teacher said "Do it for the art in you, not you in the art." And that still resonates with me. I think a lot of SL was this way in the beginning, the "for the art in you" bit, nowadays it seems like the opposite is happening. And it's a sour taste in my mouth.
  23. Yes, yes. I have them. Since I have premie account I can wear the hair and the cape, my cake and eating it, too. Then I get to kill everyone's frame rate. LOL
  24. This is because the visible bridge was ordered from ACME company and being built by Wyle E. Coyote Mole under Road Runner Mole's supervision.
  25. It's already almost, if not more track than Heterocera SLRR. And there are some nice variety of direction switches also, so it's not just one big loop.
