  1. darn! I thought maybe Sylvannas had found the alt of Magellan Linden
  2. or "Computer says yes"..... and we have no idea what it just said yes to
  3. if you mean changing "Advanced Member" tag to a custom tag then I think we have to have some x number of posts before we can somebody else who knows that x number will be hopefully come by soon and tell us
  4. @Lindal Kidd thanks for the info. I looked for what Oliver mentioned and couldn't find it. Thought it might have been something new. Seems not
  5. wooo! please to olde worlde MySpace me!! but yes! another vote for a alternative page theme. I don't mind the light theme myself but a dark option would be good as well for them who do get eyestrain from the too light
  6. whoever told you this is wrong. "Mesh avatars" are attachments (no more or less different than mesh hair, shoes or dress attachments) worn on the system avatar. Without the system avatar then there can be no mesh avatar so don't worry ok. Your investment your system avatar is safe and will happily continue for basically ever
  7. they are all Linden trees and plants in this pic. Really old school. The orange are Oak Tree. Can find the old school Linden foliage in Inventory \ Library \ Objects \ Landscaping \ Trees, plants and grasses
  8. a thing with Experience attach/detach is that we can't detach what we haven't attached is doable as a Experience but I think that will need the player to start the gameplay nekkid and wearing a full body transparent/occlusion texture, then experience-attach their avatar with the starter rig, and as the gameplay proceeds temp attach/detach appropriate items
  9. water cooler compliments great job on the project Lois. (Umm! I am not Lois) the company reallys appreciate that you have made an effort to fit into the workplace culture here. (Umm! you mean the skirt and heels yes) thanks for your input, its much appreciated by me and the rest of the group... dear i really like your new hair cut... is wonderful what you can get for $15 these days you're so sweet... sugar seems to really agree with you you're quite cute... in a chubby raisin pudding kinda way wonderful concept... so inclusive, and we will definitely proceed, with caution. (Umm! I think that means No and Not Ever)
  10. this is nuts if it is as you say is insane that the team responsible for the marketplace is not also responsible for determining what the categories are. Is like a RL department store assigning store layout and product placement to the plumbing maintenance group
  11. @Gabriele Graves yes is true that we all have our own measure of what is acceptable to us. True also about a few who have super computers and don't care about other people. Based on my observations of complexity numbers above people's heads overall, I think though that most people do care and do try as best they can to be reasonable toward others in general areas you right as well tho about shopping events fashionista blingeratti is a whole other special experience in itself, but the same people showing themselves off at these events to the nth degree are I find more concious of their impact in other areas, like at concerts, clubs, etc, and tone it down accordingly. Dressing up for fashion events kinda comes with the territory I think. Almost to the point where if we not getting lagged to pieces at a fashion event then I often wonder what is the event organiser doing wrong
  12. another is d) How does a non-specialist person approach measurement complexity in areas where their own knowledge is limited and are face with a barrage of information which without specialist knowledge to parse it, is pretty much unintelligible most people faced with this use the "close enough is good enough" approach - using the simplified standards guidelines where provided. And by personal observation of the product guided by their senses, and also by their desires in the absence of personal detailed understanding of food ingredients for example then we go by sight (what it looks like) and by taste. And by the informational claims of the manufacturer as listed on the packaging and/or advertising. When the food looks and tastes ok and the ingredients are as listed then we tend to buy other products from the same manufacturer. When not then we tend not too in SL, Land Impact and Complexity are the equivalent of government general standards guidelines against which we can measure products. Being generalised to cover a wide range of products they are simplified - crude yet informative. Close enough is good enough for the layperson generally also too I think that most people do take the close enough is good enough approach to measurement and make compromises based on the sum total. We have some total measurement number in our minds that is acceptable to us personally like with our Complexity for example. A piece of jewellery may be expensive by the measure but we want to wear it, so we compensate in our choice of what else we wear at the same time, keeping us within the total number we have decided for ourselves is the same with furnishings that we place on our parcels. A thing may be 10 LI and we only have 8 LI available in the pool we have set aside for this type of object. But we love it and want it, so we remove something else of 2 LI from our parcel so that we can have it
  13. @Gabriele Graves yes is true that we can go thru all the reasons why we can't have nice things then we can go thru all the things we can do to help ourselves to get the nice things we do want. With a little bit of effort on our own part. We do the same in RL as well like tyre kicking when looking to get a new car for example. Going to clothes shops and checking the fabrics and stitching. Lying down on the mattress at the bed shop. Sitting on the chairs in the chair shop. Checking out the demo models at the phone shop before we decide which cell phone to buy. Getting sample paint pots and testing them on our walls. etc when we don't then we don't always get the nice things we did want
  14. a thing that I do is when I come across a new shop that I have not seen before and has something that makes me go wooo! I like that i get a whole bunch of demoes from the shop. Then i check the creation date as I try each of them. When the LI reduces and the visual level of quality of the items improves over the date range then I buy the thing that made me go woo! Basically I tend to buy/reward creators who show that they are working to progressively improve their products
  15. without adding anything extra like a new power supply then a NVidia 1050TI would be about the best you can do I think. 1060+ is recommended to need 400W power supply, and I think you only have 300W in that computer i have a 1050TI in a 6 yr old computer and it drives my Samsung 2k (2560 x 1440) curved monitor pretty ok in SL. Ok meaning about 24FPS with shadows on. 60+ FPS when not crowded and no shadows
  16. @LinkedLife i don't think anyone disagrees with the technical aspects of what you are thinking about, it would be quite cool and useful in some cases. It is more the size of the market that I think can be thought about a bit more people who know enough to use a generalised API in their own code tend to migrate to self or 3rd-party hosting solutions when there is a supporting business case for it. When so then the competition in the 3rd-party hosting market is Amazon, Google, Microsoft, etc it may be that you can provide additional support and/or tool sets, particularly the LSL interface, which may provide enough for users to make use of your service. I dunno what I do know is that when discussing this kinda thing with programmers then as programmers they have a tendency to wanting access to the code. Which when applied to a business case they are usually happy to pay for i would also tho encourage you to continue building this project out. As a technical work it is pretty interesting. The market size for it, and my cautioning on the market aspect, is pretty much conjecture on my part based only on my understanding of programmers generally
  17. yes. off-roading on the ocean floor is one of the best places in terms of render lag to go really fast. And when we go fast then the parcel boundaries can come up really quickly. Bounce me off banlines LL please
  18. not so much willy-nilly travel as thinking on the same lines as Macrocosm. More and earlier navigational information is always good
  19. pretty much agree with everything you say here. Banlines have the most adverse effect on vehicle enthusiasts. I like the minimap navigation capabilities pioneered by the Catznip devs and would like to see these capabilities included in the LL standard viewer if this was to be done then the main additional thing I would ask for is an option for the user to extend the distance range at which banlines can be detected. Which would then allow the navigation minimap, and main view when Show-enabled, to warn of banlines earlier than is currently possible the other perennial ask is for the related issue - vehicles and/or driverless scripted objects that hit a banline to be bounced off similar to how avatars are
  20. i can agree that banlines may be notorious for some. I can't agree that they are pointless for all on my home region we encourage the use of banlines and parcel visibility flag to be used in the manner and purpose for which they are designed we don't allow scripted devices that kill visitors to our community. On the basis that when do want privacy then better to prevent intrusion in the first instance than to allow intrusion and then execute the wanderer and for the few who don't like banline ribbons messing up their view then menu: World \ Show \ Banlines ps: we do also have the luxury of 4 and 8 meter parcel dividers on our sim. So that figures into our thinking also
  21. on 1). Blocking and/or changing text is a viewer client side function. There is no way to do this with the LL standard viewer. So it requires a RLV/RLVa enabled viewer or your own custom -built viewer coded for this purpose on 2). A script in a rezzed object that is running prior to placement on a no-script parcel within 70 meters of the ground/terrain level, will continue to run provided that the script does not change state. Any script will run normally on a no-script parcel, when placed 70 meters above the terrain level for a HUD script to continue running on a no-script parcel then the script needs to have taken controls permission: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/LlTakeControls * is about 70 meters above the terrain - about the same distance that banlines operate up to
  22. i think you will find that the first (main) group of people who do want the services mentioned and are prepared to pay for the hosting of those services; are also those with a desire to not code anything themselves. To simply rent the service because shopkeeper, land baron, club host, etc. Casper being the most recognised SL purveyor of such services the second group of people are those who like to code up their own stuff. I think these people would be more interested in purchasing the code from you - both server and client side codes - which they can then customise to fit their exact need
  23. @Elina Iredell what you would like to have is technically doable. The question for LL is how much resources they would have to put toward it technically: bake-on-mesh + experience temp attach/rez is the basis for a system-enabled pre-purchase approval system. With bake on mesh the creator seller doesn't even have to make a demo version. The system would bake a "DEMO" texture overlay how to pay for pre-approval items: In inventory right-click on the item and Pay. The payment goes to the Last Owner - which in this case is the creator seller having said this. What we have done is moved 1 component of your issue. The issue of how to get our money back when mistakenly buy something we never mean' too. There is no realistic way around this in any situation other than the refund policy of the shop keeper - same RL same SL it does tho solve the issue of incomplete or not-as-advertised products
