  1. In a recent group chat Patch pointed out that moving a region will not break landmarks, but that LL could disable them if there was a need to do so. Like you Nika, I was always under the impression that LMs were based upon grid location, but Patch pointed out that it was tied to the region itself, and not the region’s location on the grid. Looking at the SL Wiki it seems that the old grid location LM was replaced with the region location LM. It’s comforting to know that we used to be right, we just never got the memo when the system was changed http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Landmarks
  2. My original av got a chalet yesterday and I’m looking forward to visiting today and exploring the area. I might even drop some furniture for her so she can sit down. She’s old bless her I have to say that I’m very happy with the look of this theme, but we’re all different, and the stilts left me completely cold. ‘Horses for courses’ as my old Nan used to say!
  3. I wonder how many alts would get produced to milk this.
  4. It IS possible to buy a whole region of mainland though. You don’t see them come up very often, and you would only have parcel powers I believe. The monthly cost was lower last time I looked too... and you would need to maintain a premium account. If the parcel has any protected land in it you wouldn’t own that bit, but there are landlocked regions with no roads or water that would enable you to have the lot. A lot get purchased by the landlords that then place the domes over the region at various heights.
  5. I tend to make sure I go there once a month just to check the house releases, as I've had the same feeling after missing one I would have snapped up. Everyone loves a bargain
  6. That seems to be the mantra that runs through my head constantly!
  7. Strangely enough, I went looking at two of these today. The Campion region in Heterocera is the highest altitude on the grid, followed by Svecia in the Sharp Continent (Old Teen Grid), and then Tethys in Sansara. Get ready for a slow walk, and watch out for orbs! I only looked from parcels that were for sale nearby so didn't experience any myself, but there are private parcels there so be aware. The temple at the top of Tethys looked as though it was open for visitors from the description in the 'about land'.
  8. Really? This was argued about in a locked thread? In before the lock!!
  9. One choice?.... Luxury! I remember the days when there was NO choice and we all lived in cardboard boxes in’t middle o’ road! (Always nice to have a Monty Python reference now and again ) I must admit, I was amazed to see that the choice has narrowed back down after quite some time. With the coming chalet release though we’re bound to see the home page with a nice selection of choice once again. For myself... I’m just a ‘happy camper’, loving my small trailer parcel.
  10. I think that whenever a business doesn’t really want to offer an option, they’ll slap a ridiculous fee on the action in order to put people off. Maybe the 20k allowance regions rent easier than than the 30k ones. If they up the allowance and you decide to move after a month they’ve then got the faff involved in downsizing again, as well as the cost. You quite correctly point out that other landlords do the things you want for less money..... might be time for a change.
  11. My main mainland home is in the North East of Sansara, next to the lovely Greater Coniston regions. I regularly jump in my car and drive from there to the airport in Meighen, park up and then take a helicopter down to my property in Bellisseria (often landing at the airstrip and changing to a boat to complete the journey for variety). I can even carry on from Bellisseria down to a small parcel I own in Jeogeot. That’s all plenty connected. I can also travel from my Sansara home to my Flamingo Motel rental in Heterocera. I am REALLY looking forward to the idea that I will soon be able to travel from these locations to my rentals in Corsica. For those of us that have travelled the grid in our various vehicles over the years, it will be the fulfilment of a long held dream that I, for one, never ever thought would realistically happen.
  12. This does not work on the LL viewer, but is a nice feature on Firestorm. As for parcels appearing empty on the map, there's a problem with the map at the moment and the pictures show the state of the regions the latter part of last year. If you look at a seasonal area you'll still see Fall season with the browns and golds of trees and leaves. Best way to find them is to go out and look in regions in which you have an interest, you'll soon see the empty parcels then and a quick click of the parcel 'about land' will soon show the status.

  14. This ^ The login to forums seems to be separate from the Dashboard. I only ever have to log back in to forums if I’ve actually logged out.
  15. The fact that regions are joined does not make them all the same. The different names are clear in the types shown in my original post. You can place any type of building you want on a mainland parcel, but you can't place anything on a Linden Home parcel, only the buildings that can be rezzed from the rezzer which cannot be removed. On the sailing sim estates you are restricted by a building covenant. They are different, and the names are important because they give guidance to the differences that a person can expect.
  16. Bellisseria is NOT mainland. Just because the regions are connected does not make them all mainland. You can always check the type in the about land window for each region... This is what you will see for a private standalone region or collection of regions This is what you will see for one of the mainland regions This is what you will see for a Bellisseria region This is what you will see for one of the sailing sim estates around the Blake Sea The Bellisseria regions and the sailing sim estate regions are both accessible from mainland regions, but it does not make either of them mainland regions.
  17. You will probably have to wait a week on this as the person that abandons land usually gets a grace period in case they want to ask for it back, but LL will usually respond to your ticket and tell you if that is the case. As for whether the land will be set for you to buy or be auctioned is uncertain. As Marianne experienced, a prime location does usually end up getting auctioned, but I have seen just this week a mixture of personal grants and auctions on the region my own parcel is situated.
  18. It’s purely just a warning that it’s old and a means to try and keep things fresh. Some people just go through old threads and make a comment to something that really ought to be left dead. You just get a notice saying something like.. “You are about to reply to a thread that has been inactive for 1404 days. Please take a moment to consider if this thread is worth bumping.”
  19. It’s just to warn about necro posting, some people don’t realise they are responding to an old and usually already resolved thread.
  20. You just have to remember that Linden Homes are starter homes, and the idea is that there should be one for every premium account that wants one. One of the big advantages is that no one can choose what one they have, it’s just down to the timing on when you click. Those that play the Game of Homes have to accept the limitations of the system, otherwise you will drive yourself mad with frustration. I really do hope that you are able to get what you are looking for! But will you stop when you get it?
