  1. I love the flexibility that renting provides. I have mainland parcels that I own, and all too often when I get bored of an area, or just wish to relocate, I will abandon or sell the parcel for a ridiculously low amount and so have never actually either profited or broken even from land ownership. Time and again I will go back to the landlords I have rented from in the past, as my SL focus shifts to their area, as it is so much easier to come and go. I'm currently situated in Satori, and so the new Linden Homes have not drawn me to indulge. I did look at the houses when they were previewed but have yet to visit the new continent. Should another Linden Home continent appear that would say, bridge Sansara to Satori, I would definitely look at them with interest. Their ease of acquisition and disposal would certainly give them the flexibility I enjoy from rentals. I am a multi parcel enthusiast though.. I travel, and I like to have places that I can travel to and loiter, and so the Linden Home would only ever be one of my parcels. For those that prefer to just have a home, it could be that the rental business would lose their custom.
  2. 'My' survey would not be to prove anything either way, it was just a thought. I can only speak for myself, in that I cross sims way more than I teleport. I currently have 8 properties and travel crossing MANY sims to 7 of them. The 8th one, which is on a different land mass to the others, I travel to using an airport on each continent that have a teleport link between them. I cross many sims to travel to and from the respective airports. I do all my shopping (except when buying a vehicle that I want to demo first) through the marketplace, so am very much in the 'sim crossing camp'. I would say, in my own experience this last week or two, that I have had more teleport failures than crossing failures, and considering my travel habit, I cross way more sims than teleport, which surely would prove the need to be more dire with regard to teleports.
  3. I think teleports are probably used more than sim crossings generally, as most stores and events are situated on stand alone sims. It would be interesting to canvas an event on a mainland sim though to see how many had arrived there by crossing sims rather than teleporting in.
  4. That's become my go to phrase in group chats these days with all the moaning I see
  5. I also do this building in the sky. As I don't have a parcel border tool, I find the best way to know where the parcel boundaries are is to make the prim platform on the ground in the shape of the parcel and then just edit it to 2000m altitude.
  6. As has been mentioned before, when your viewer crashes it doesn't go through the logging out procedure which saves things you've changed since the last log out. Therefore, when you log back in after crashing it uses the information from the last correct log out. In order to reduce the chance of certain things not being saved, ie. modding clothing or HUDs, I usually detach the item after modding, wait a few seconds and then attach it again. This then updates the change, which is not undone should the viewer crash before I log out.
  7. Check to see if you received an invite to the land group that it is set to. If you didn't, then Pamela's suggestion is the way to go.
  8. I used to dig pools on a private estate, it's a real pain. The parcels there were all large, and the idea of digging a pool on a 1024sqm parcel that already has a house on it sends me screaming from the room.
  9. Orbs are only used on private land, stick to the public access routes and you'll have no trouble at all.
  10. There are a number of rental companies that lease parcels on private single sims and multiple sims. These really are perfect for those that wish to be left alone, and in the ones I've used, they are happy for tenants to have orbs. One even provides free orbs that can be used solely on their land. You get 'ownership' of the parcel to be able to adjust most land settings and have to comply with a reasonable covenant in order to prevent eyesores and perhaps maintain any theme of that particular area. They really are priced well, L$0.56 - L$1.50 per prim (the higher amount usually for homestead sims where you're getting a greater area for your prims) and the only traffic you see is the occasional person looking around if one of the parcels is available for rent, but otherwise it's just your neighbouring renters who stick purely to their own parcel. This is a good option for those that want to have flexibility in location, privacy, and you don't have to have a premium account in order to rent there.
  11. 'Planck length' ... couldn't help but think of how long prim hair looked when an avie tipped their head to look down
  12. If you rent a boat slip you can then set the boat to the land group and be able to walk around it. It does sound as though you're able to switch seats without standing which is a very nice feature to have, especially if you want to drop anchor at some point in your travels. Bree's suggestion of an alt account is a very good one, and one that I utilise myself. The Radegast viewer is excellent for this if the thought of two 'full' viewers running on your PC at the same time sends you screaming from the room. One thing to remember though with the Radegast, you won't be able to take that alt on your trip if you're crossing sims, they'll just disappear. But for teleporting in and having them sit to hold the boat while you can then stand, they're perfect
  13. Whenever I mod anything that I'm wearing, or adding something to a HUD etc, I always detach the item after making the change, wait about 10 seconds then reattach it. This then saves the change. If you don't do this and then your viewer crashes, you don't 'log out' which is where all the change updating takes place, and you then lose the update when relogging. Likewise, after suffering a viewer crash, your location hasn't been saved by a log out, and so upon logging back in, you're back at the place you logged in at previously.
  14. One of the biggest reasons that I tend to use Firestorm over the default LL viewer is the LL viewer's display of profile pages. It seems to take an absolute age to load and then gives very little information once it has done so. Is there any way that a user can choose to use the old style profile page instead?
  15. I just had the same problem with an alt. I was using the LL viewer and already logged in on this account on FS. I tried logging in at various locations, including where this account was located, to no avail. But after closing the LL viewer and reopening it connected first time.
  16. Thank you very much for taking the time to reply... I checked as you suggested and the slider is already at the max as my quality and speed slider sits between high and ultra. Sometimes it can even be a house that doesn't show.
  17. I use both the LL viewer and FS, but I'm wanting to use the LL viewer more as I get a better framerate when I do. The only thing that holds me back, and the reason I started to use FS more in the past, is the fact that on occasion, I cannot see some mesh items on the LL viewer. I was reminded of this yesterday... I went to a community centre late the previous night, and noticed that an item had been left with many others, for an alt of mine. I logged in the following day (on the LL viewer) to find the counter clear of all the items and figured I may have missed a deadline, but to make sure, I also logged in on FS on an alt. Sure enough, the items (mesh envelopes) were still there, but totally invisible to me on the LL viewer. Is there a setting in the 'debug settings' that I could adjust to overcome this?
