  1. Well yes I'm sure nurture plays a part too, but I was nurtured in music as well as art, and that was a massive flop.
  2. I think a lot of this is genetic. Take me for example; my strongest talents are art. And nearly everyone in my family is talented at art in some way. My dad was a professional photographer and a cartoonist, among other things. My mum could draw portraits in pencil to near-photographic quality. My sister is a graphic designer. My grandfather was a signwriter (painted signs for shops and pubs). Musical ability is another thing that runs in the family too, though I missed out on that particular gift.
  3. It's not just LSL. I can't understand any kind of programming. I just can't seem to think in the right way or understand how to put any of it together.
  4. Went to see Gary Numan live on Thursday and I've been bingeing on his latest album (Savage) ever since.
  5. And we can now add Bellisseria to the list of great places to go sailing.
  6. I guess I'm just not intelligent enough for that part of SL. I dislike puzzles for the same reason - I'm never smart enough to solve them (unless they're puzzles for kids).
  7. The only viewer I know well is Firestorm; I don't use any others. I have a pretty good understanding of content creation and modification; I can't make mesh (can't get my head around the software for it) but I can build with regular prims, make system-layer clothing, re-texture mesh items, and I can make my own alphas, with a bit of trial-and-error. Scripting, on the other hand, may as well be written in Mongolian, for all the understanding I have of it.
  8. And yet I am on mainland right now, at ground level, and my FPS in "High" settings is around 50. At "Mid" settings it goes up to about 65. (Oddly at "Low" settings it drops back to 50, I have no idea why). In order for us to understand the cause of your lag, please go to "Help" and "About" in your viewer, then copy the contents of that window and paste them here.
  9. I found this store quite by accident whilst I was looking for Kauna. Yes it's in Time Portal, here: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Time Portal/214/42/1930 More 1920s than anything else but they do have some 30s/40s style too.
  10. Hoorenbeeks is the only store I know that sells complete outfits, including footwear, that are meant to be worn together. Whether they include any with high-top sneakers, I don't know. They are very expensive so I rarely check, unless they have a sale on. Also try Kauna - they "closed down" several months ago and decided to give away their entire inventory for free. The store is still there, and everything is still available, including a set called "4Mat Boots". The boots come with jeans that are a bit shorter than usual, and they will work with some other boots and sneakers too. Find them here in the "Everything Else" vendor: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Time Portal/248/133/1930 They have tons of great vintagewear for men, so pick up the whole lot while you're there. The only thing that's not free is the gacha. The only other way, if you don't mind skin-tight jeans, is wear applier-layer or system-layer jeans with modifiable sculpted cuffs that you can re-size.
  11. In RL I do Samhain, which is almost, but not quite, entirely unlike Halloween . My friends and I will be gathering a few days early, on the 27th, to welcome in the Pagan New Year. In SL I am going full Dia de Muertos;
  12. The first time I saw your name I thought, yep, Snow Crash fan
  13. Chocolate, of any kind really. By which, I mean actual chocolate, not the tasteless brown stuff that gets called chocolate in the US. My favourites are Twix bars, Toblerones, and 500g slabs of Galaxy.
  14. For me, SL is mainly a social outlet after a busy day. I can't go out with my RL friends every night, my wallet (and my liver) wouldn't cope. Hanging out with my SL friends, listening to music or whatnot, that's how I wind down from work.
  15. This looks so real and natural. What heads/bento AOs are you guys using?
  16. Is this still the case though? I've just read the TOS again and there's no mention of it anywhere. I believe there is still a hard limit of 5 per email address; if you try to use an address at sign-up that you have already used 5 times, it will force you to choose another. Or at least that was the case a couple of years ago. I haven't tried to make any new alts since about 2017.
  17. Matty is not short for Matthew, as most people might think. It's actually short for Maitimo, a character from Tolkien's Silmarillion, better known as Maedhros. I've been a Maedhros fanboy for years and years (he's my favourite because, like me, he's missing his right hand, and gay af). He is also the reason why my avatar has always been a red-haired elf. When I joined I was quite lucky, a new list of names had been recently released so it was relatively easy to get even a common name like Matty with most of them. Luminos is a reference to the Silmarils themselves; crystals of light.
  18. This fabulous fantasy skin is from Stargazer Creations, includes system skin and appliers, though I'm wearing it here as a system skin with BOM. The bento wings come with it. Looks more alien than fae, I think.
  19. Posting pics in "How does my avatar look today" will usually collect a handful of Likes.
  20. Finding high quality "off the peg" packs on the marketplace is rare or impossible since the demand is so low; no creator is going to make a complete top-quality avatar that less than half a dozen people even want. So for something like this, you will need to learn how to put a specialised avatar together out of "spare parts". A Mobian may not be a furred animal (I have no idea what one is, tbh) but it certainly falls under the category of "furry avatars". For a Mobian, you'll need to start with a furry head as a base, and furry heads are a LOT cheaper than human heads. Unlike human heads they are all fully modifiable and perfect for customising. Paws, Rainworks, Feliz and Happy Paw are a few stores that offer customisable furry mesh heads in a variety of shapes, and most of them are L$500 or under. You'll need to learn how to make your own textures, using Photoshop or Gimp or something similar, or buy a suitable head texture made for a different kind of animal that you can modify. Learning how to mix and match is part of the process in making something specialised like a Mobian. I reckon you'd be able to make this avatar for L$1,000 or less. Best place to start is to join an active Furry group, or go hang out in an active Furry location such as Luskwood, and ask there, how to learn all of this stuff.
  21. It would have been polite to just say "no thank you".
  22. The only real difference here is your makeup which is better in the second pic. There doesn't seem to be much tattoo-layer makeup around now that Glamorize has closed its inworld store and converted most of its Marketplace stock to appliers. I'm curious if there's a difference in the sharpness of the tattoo too; hard to tell without seeing a close-up.

    swaping new avi body

Yes, just wear the Belleza body but don't wear the shape that comes with Belleza, just keep your original shape and head. You might want to alter some of the body sliders before you're satisfied, so keep a copy in case you wan to wear Signature again. You will also need to buy a separate bento hand AO because Belleza Jake doesn't include one like Signature does, and you'll be stuck with permanently splayed fingers without one.
  24. A system skin can't be for just a head or just a body. You can't mix-and-match them like you do with head & body appliers, you can only wear one at a time. Head and body together, all in one.
