  1. CG Trader actually excludes Second Life under 21.2: not for users to re-package as goods distributed or sold inside a virtual world. The question is what distributed means. Even if you upload for personal use, you are still granting LL certain rights on upload and providing them a license to display the item on your screen (kind of/for example). The fact they call out virtual worlds gives you a hint their sellers are NOT comfortable with usage in Second Life and you likely should contact the seller to outline the specific usage you want ahead of purchase to get an approval (again I suspect that will be rare to get). A wider question for the OP - what are you looking for and why from a third party site to get it - is something similar not already available for purchase on the marketplace or inworld here in Second Life you can buy? It will be far less effort for you and you get ongoing SL support for the item (if using a reputable merchant).
  2. To help on the learning and what Nabrej put. In game engines and Second LIfe to 'see' something, it has to have something called normals. This is basically the "face" of the polygon. So if you have a roof for example with "normals" facing outwards if you walked inside you would see the clear sky above you, if you walk outside and look up at the house you would see the roof. So the correct workflow would be to create "ceilings" inside the house with the "normals" facing inwards or downwards. That way inside the house you will see a ceiling and not the sky. That's not really the official description of normals it's much more than that - but as a basic "idea" so you understand why you may not see something in SL. A good little Wiki to read is here for game development but you can apply some of the theory - > http://wiki.polycount.com/wiki/Normal_map as a reference point. You did the right thing posting here, I learned a lot on these forums (and still do - I now even have floors you can rez stuff on due to these folk) so it's always worth a search here too for general issues you are seeing. Now your project is done, hope you stick around to do more!
  3. Hi all I have run out of space on my sim but not prims and was thinking of downloading my terrain raw file and creating a copy of the terrain into mesh then uploading it so I can create another level to my sim in the air.... I may not have thought this all through properly yet and a lot of optimisation would need to occur, physics and then I would need to create "fake" water at the base. Has anybody done this before and if so any best practice to share / things I should avoid/is this a terrible idea? I would not need normals underneath. Even better does anybody offer this as a service to save me probably crashing my sim and breaking SL and making something 203902930290392 LI? I looked on Marketplace but haven't found one yet. Thanks Charlotte
  4. I would avoid putting marketplace links on Flickr - they would likely consider the item an Ad they can be tricky with stuff like that. It would be nice if people have them on the front of their SL profiles with the store link like Dakota said - you can also sort yourself your store to the newest item - copy that longer link and use url shortener to put it in profile.
  5. I should add to this, I always then wondered (haha) outside of the big vendor companies why a viewer company didn't do a marketplace and have integration with their viewer.... you can tell I am not technical!
  6. LL really don't review all flags properly - I have had one flagged for over a year now. And it's not a review, it's some weirdo writing random stuff. So not even a subjective difference of opinion. LL are very arbitrary on what they remove, and that customer on the "review" above, I notedcarded, IM'd, and refunded to zero response which my super nice customer service hat on - so no matter what you do as a merchant you can't navigate the 10% who are genuinely poor customers. Somebody noted above they always get 5 star reviews - I don't and it's normally 99% of the time as they couldn't be bothered to click the see the item in Second Life link which Tp's them straight to the product. "Item was smaller than I wanted" - one example. I have had rarely a genuine issue which I rectify, refund and get them a new copy. One lady she had issues with a pool she didn't like the texture, so I went and customised it for her and made an error during that. I of course then went back and fixed and refunded her for the trouble. Her 3 star review remains today. She is a very rare case though so not at all reflective of what my customers are like. Mostly they are adorable, so it tends to be non regular customers I see the stranger reviews from. Echoing what Pam said I am disappointed that LL did not consult us here on possible options. Again they have been written off synch to what merchants really would need in that drop down. Mine would be "didn't read the item description and check the demo". I have even had a star knocked off reviews due to the LI or something similar - which is clearly listed in the marketplace information.
  7. It also is really not just which software.... to really get the bakes you want you are going to need to know how to light a scene, how to make it efficient etc (e.g. samples / balanced with AA). There is some fantastic theory out there made far more easier for the likes of us SL creators who are not always formally trained. I did the Grant Warrick Vray course. To get some theory under my belt on using Vray (even though he uses a different underlying software 3ds). So once I got the theory I could apply it to my specific workflow where applicable - it really helped my workflow speed up for example. One thing I have learnt in 5 years of making meshes preceded by 6 years of SL regular creation, is there is always a ton to still learn / software keeps improving. There is no easy route that's for sure, and a lot of the creators who do lovely bakes have put a significant level of work in. A lot of creators I see use Blender and Cycles and seem to get good results with that. And the positive news is low cost and a ton of SL tutorials are aimed at this software. Creators who have that detail you are seeing likely are using z-brush in their workflow. And agree with the Maya render/bake on the clothing items mentioned. Also with powerful rigs to push super bakes so their hardware will be prepped for the work too.
  8. If unsure if physics, you can run a test too - you can select the wall on edit linked parts, and set mesh to None versus prim - that should remove the physics shape (make sure you only have the edit linked part selected not the whole build) - if that fixes it you know it's a physics issue. You can then keep it as None and perhaps rez a transparent prim to ensure nobody can walk through the wall if the creator does not solve the issue for you.
  9. I have a random question, some of us use vendors (won't mention the names, but most creators will know the ones I mean). The one I use already has a marketplace (not working at the moment). In light of the above, what's to stop a networking solution where people can buy on a third party marketplace in USD/PayPal set up to be "cheaper" than if purchased inworld / SL Marketplace and the drop box system delivers the item - bypassing Linden Purchases / Lindex and cashing out etc. Saving the purchaser money on not having to buy more expensive Lindens and the creator money not having to cash out via LL as they could take anon PayPal/other methods etc. Almost taking us back years and years lol, OnRez anyone? I see a ton of issues with that approach, but one thing I know about SL creators we/they are a nifty bunch who work around so many issues on a daily basis - I wonder if they collectively will start to work around this one too if the fees continue to rise. I always wondered after SL Marketplace why another competitor who could solve all our asks didn't come along - is there something I am missing where it's now not possible to do third party marketplaces (I know they wouldn't be able to use Linden Dollars I think due to third party exchanges?) / or it's just too hard to get traction/creators onboard?
  10. You can register a body of work (just include pictures of each item) even if you did annually and it's then just 38 USD a pop in TOTAL. Also something to remember you aren't registering the RL item so those exclusions don't equate, you are registering a 3d model or piece or artwork etc.
  11. They will take action even if you haven't registered (they have to by law). You are correct in that you have copyright upon your original creation occuring (assuming original). However it's best practice to always register your copyright (you can do en mass and yes all online with the U.S. Copyright Office for a small cost e.g. each quarter). That way, should you ever enter into litigation you can claim statutory damages and attorney fees with a registered copyright case.
  12. If you texture is tga and already sized at 512 x 512. It could also be an issue with your preferences. I can get blurry floor textures, if I don't have Antisotropic Filtering enabled. - Screen grab here https://gyazo.com/53b0633f39736c964e9c0dbb9bca473f
  13. Same here, the item is always in my top 3 sellers I just wish people would at least go see the demo first, that may help then. I always refund anyway, far easier and normally people then are happier with the service, even if they thought the item was trash.
  14. I saw that "house is trash" is subjective I guess...
  15. I have had some crazy reviews on products over the years, and I have noted LL is very hit and miss on whether they will remove a review that doesn't actually "review" the product. I have had one review flagged to LL reaching it's year anniversary hah - I had to translate it but it stated simply: "it's house trash" with a one star. Does anybody get results flagging reviews? I tend to try to respond at least in a comment so other purchasers can get more information and that there is customer support etc. The weird part is that reviewed house is on my first page and still a good seller, so I am thinking comments from merchants do help the situation.
  16. Having that little eye on the physics tab will be so great - can't wait for that!
  17. I am going to wipe the message here. <3
  18. They have been very good/quick Darrius and already have been in contact and taken a copy of the potentially rogue asset / and have access to the original asset. Let's hope if something is truly wrong, it's something that can be fixed. I guess I am allowed to post here if I get an update on it being resolved etc. I'll be mindful if it really isn't me being crazy, of not posting anything that could help people exploit it.
  19. Hi - LL went in a set to Triagers and Reporter apologies I am guessing the same Pam until they clarify if I am crazy or something def weird is happening. - I have found another example (from a different user) just now so it looks like something def is wonky or crazy going on - I just wish I could replicate it myself to help define the "how".
  20. We have asked for this thread to be removed if possible. If you missed it - was related to perms (no sensitive information given out) but likely best we don't advertise the questions being asked.
  21. I think the best route is go more viral. You could first build your Flickr account. Start following people, become involved in the Flickr community (favourite and comment on pictures you like), becoming engaged people will start to follow you back. Take a look at how creators display their images, and instead of flooding your feed with advertisements, first have fun with pictures and SL. You can then gradually start to add a few product shots, and add to groups (You can check which groups other similar creators add to). Within a few months you can build a healthy following by those are genuinely interested in SL. Also I wouldn't bother with a website early in, I would go for a Facebook Page - it's free and you can post your products, put up events etc, again connect with other SL fans and start to slowly build a presence. Hope that helps!
  22. It did... weirdly it was fine on BETA first so it's always a learning curve for me!
  23. Thanks both, it was the first time I noticed that pieces did not import as link sets but separate meshes too. I re uploaded with different sets and it seems to be so far stable! Phew.
