  1. For SL this is NOT TRUE. For OpenSimulator it is true. I am not a representative of Linden Lab or their product Second Life.
  2. Textures R Us? I used to go there to blow up computers for fun. It was a great place to shed stalkers!
  3. because of the sheer bloody volume of inane club chatter and gesture rubbish they were getting from SL translator scripts Oh, I forgot the infohub spewage. I am sure that "helped".
  4. My guess is Tiny Empires, but that is in my head only because somebody else mentioned it in a forum post.
  5. Is the a metric that can be used that would be less scene dependent than Frames Per Second? I was wondering about KTris/s.
  6. They are there to use LL's free game script hosting service.
  7. That is not what I would consider an advancement. You go have fun though.
  8. Is that an error for the C Language Runtime library? If so them you are probably dealing with a corrupted executable or DLL. I was getting these many years ago. After all troubleshooting and testing was completed, I found my motherboard was slightly defective. The contents of RAM were infrequently being either read or written incorrectly when the machine was loaded. Dell replaced the motherboard in the XPS 630i but the problem did not go away. The RAM had passed stress tests in a test machine. The replacement motherboard was also failing in the same way. I assume bad design. I tried to use the same computer to participate in a beta of Microsoft Windows. MS kicked the computer out of the beta program for reporting invalid opcodes in binaries that MS knew did not contain invalid opcodes. I hope you are not having the same issue. Maybe you have some easier and less expensive correction available. I had to replace the computer.
  9. Communications delay between simulators and central services is one of the reasons the datacenters were consolidated in the first place. Optimized connections between LL's datacenters were attempted but it wasn't really working as hoped. When it came time to replace the simulator hosts with new hardware, it was all placed in a single location. The previous hosts shut down after the migration.
  10. I agree this is going to be challenging to reconcile. Would there be any way to build a content processing workflow that can optimize an item for rendering then store the optimized version as an online asset for use by everybody that encounters the original in-world?
  11. Wow.. So many speculative reasons. I thought one of the reasons LL decided to try "cloud hosting" was because the simulator hosts they were using were over ten years old and it was time to replace them.
  12. select id, user_name, display_name from user_accounts where user_name like 'Ardy%' order user_name; Oops, nope. They are using a web search algorithm that parses word roots and modifiers, links in a thesaurus and a relevance index built from a collective bias of previously selected results from similar previous searches where similar is also defined by relevance. WEIRD and ultimately useless.
  13. I blame UDP. It gets lost in the cloud and seeds precipitation then everything gets mushy.
  14. Oh dear. Some of you grabbed that and ran with it. I wasn't referring to intelligence levels. I was referring to the tendency to make bad decisions after being exposed to some influence via an electronic communications medium. People doing stupid things is apparently contagious. For example, watch a video on YouTube depicting some ridiculous activity then go out an try that activity yourself, for whatever reason. Please don't. For some, overdosing on YouTube video can impair judgement as much as any chemical substance can. I know this doesn't make it a disease but some members of "the medical community" are pushing for acceptance.
  15. Meanwhile, useless information permeates the minds of all.
  16. In 2021 "stupidity" will be declared a mental illness making it a recognized illness that can be spread electronically. Is this a first?
  17. Remember that chess game that was a view of two men playing chess? Was it automatically two games because of this? Amazon AWS and S3 don’t get mad. They toss you out, ship your luggage to you then burn the room after forensics gets done with it. There is no heresay.
  18. Anything without limits becomes a griefing vector. -- Simon Linden How will the limits be determined? -- Ardy Lay
  19. To be fair, it's Twitter's @theRealDonaldTrump account, not the other way around. I may have the handle incorrect because I never read it. I have known the man since 1972 and would never have trusted him with anything more dangerous than a plastic leaf rake.
  20. This is precisely why I suggest using Furmark, to test OpenGL. The driver install should fix it for you.
