I am curious about how many people have a house and use it for socialising?

I haven't had a house since 2010, just been a homeless bum, never felt the need for it. I just tend to socialise in clubs.

Curious to see how popular having a home is and if you find it beneficial or just something you have but don't use.

I can't offer any worthwhile insight in this subject because my SL life is very untypical, but I just wanted to say that this new topic is a refreshing (and interesting) change because it's not about the new ToS or child avatars :D

I have had a home in Bel, I like the Newport style homes. I've had friends over to socialize, which was mainly listening to music and yapping about stuff.

I tend to find the SL homes still too big, and the LI too little, to really flesh it out to feel like home.

So I end up using it to put objects together, test basic things, sort inventory... But no serious building as I would use all the LI's up just in one room, which in RL would almost be the size of a warehouse.

In the older SL homes, I liked my one-level homes with high ceilings too.. .and when I stuck to Realistic Scale, I could fit an entire club in my living room there as well.

I have homes on the Mainland and in Bellisseria, which I find helpful during the rolling restarts -- I can generally wait it all out at one or the other continent.  I socialize a lot in the homes; discussing decor and landscaping and various improvements that can be made.  I probably spend 75% of my in-world time in a home of some sort, mine or someone else's.  Home and home-related hobbies make up 100% of my Second Life living and have for the last 5 years.  Having a home is super important to me in this world.

I came to SL in 2003. I was in and out, mostly out though, until 2008. Since 2008 I have owned land and had at least one home, sometimes as many as four Belli homes at one time. Though, the main reason for multiple homes was that I needed them for my business as I made add-ons for the homes in the early days of Belli. Things got in the way consequently I stopped making add-ons, so I'm down to one Belli home. I've never been without what I think of as home base since 2008.

I love my little space. It's place where I can try on demos leisurely and in private. I can and do invite my close friends over for a chat, or to watch a movie, or just show them my latest remodel. My home though is as much an expression of me and my creativity as my avatar. If I couldn't have my little home in SL, I think I wouldn't be in SL honestly.

I have had a home since 2008. I have had my current house since 2012. It is one of my loves in SL. I very much enjoy furnishing, decorating, and modifying it. I will never be done. I almost always login and logout at home. I get dressed there before I go elsewhere. I use it for trying on clothes and putting together outfits. I do use it for socializing. Occasionally, when time permits, I have social events there. More often, we'll have a friend over. I also have it open for all to visit and use, and I often chat with visitors. Feel free to drop by. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Danim/95/85/57

I have a 512 home on Belli, my main clubhouse on Zindra, a sphere tank home on riverfront on an M sim,  a place on Zindra where I have all my game rezzed,

my 16 sqm tower on another M river with a 512 on the same sim for all the prims i could use, and  oh yes a 64 sqm mini club, also on Zindra.

I think that s all of them 😂

p.s. I just rezzed a sphere tank above the games place to build a sort of space themed club

I have 3 linden homes in beliss and two on my 1/4 sim.. one on the ground and one way up in the air. I guess I could add three more since I have places up in the air also on my linden  home lands.. hehehe

I'm usually in one of them if I'm not out doing something..

I’ve built hundreds of houses in SL but never actually devoted land to build one for myself to live in and play house. My SL time has always been spent either creating things for other people to use or exploring the grid to see what others have created.

I have a Mediterranean-inspired house on my private region but I spend very little time inside it. I'm not much of an indoor person in SL. The house is decorated but basically just for show, because I guess I figured that the parcel ought to have a housey-looking thing on it. I have a couple of little out buildings -- a boat shed and a one-room shack --  for the same reason.  I spend my quiet time and much of my social time wandering in the woods or along the shore.  If I want to build something, I tend to do it on the lawn or on a bare sky platform. Same if I want to try on new clothes, sort inventory, or do almost anything else.

I always have a house, usually more than one; when I'm active in role play I like to have a home base on the sim. Lately, more of my time is spent decorating and landscaping, it's my zone out and forget about work time.

Reading the forums inspired me to revisit mainland. I'm slowly working on setting up this mainland space.

I've always had at least one home - usually one on mainland and one Linden (Belli) home.   I spend a lot of time at my home parcel, mainly as a place for logging in and out, a place for changing clothes and trying on demos, sorting inventory and just hanging out.  I enjoy decorating and landscaping, attempting to make the home and yard a place that makes me feel relaxed when I see it on my computer screen.  I don't socialize a lot, but I have had a friend over to my house to visit from time to time to visit.

Right now I have a Mediterranean home and it's way too large.

I am thinking of downgrading my linden home to a camper. Will play the GOH till I find one I like and use the rest on Mainland to get a bit more creative. I like seeing how I can use the max Li and make the place look good. I'll probably just use the mainland one to create a dance area and put my intan out.

Same.

ETA: I don’t actually own land like everyone else in the thread. I did that once and put a house on it, but sold it when houses got built all around it. Before that I rented houses or apartments and since that I have just rented skyboxes. I have been in SL almost 17 years so have lived in a lot of spaces. I probably would still be living at my fave one but my landlady got rid of the land and moved me to another house.

I live on my bf's land in one home ... we spend a lot of time there so I guess that's socialization?   I also have a Linden home that I decorated recently. I like to switch them out for a new area/theme when I need a change of pace in sl  so I can redecorate again.

Personally I like being surrounded by what I think looks good. I like to have a basically private landing place and having a home in a different region is good if problems arise for awhile like a terrible neighbor, lag or just getting away from rolling restarts.  It's also a place to change and sandbox.

I've invited others over but since I'm an introvert it doesn't happen often... it's more just a yeah let's look at each others homes when I meet a new friend that I have determined isn't crazy kind of thing.  If I didn't have a home I'd have to find a really out of the way place to log in and out.. but having done that in the past it feels anchorless.

I've always had a home base. I have two places I call home. A linden home I used to leave open for anyone to use. That changed when I decided it was time to try out a new linden home and now I'm enjoying spending time in my tree house. My other home is on a private sim.  I think I spend more time on my build platforms than in my homes. Or on the roof of them, or hanging about outside of them, strange but true.

I don't go to clubs anymore, also I'm not much of a socializer so I prefer a home base to hang out and do my thing.
