If so, why couldn't they go back to having Gacha events where you use your $Ls to by tokens for the machines?

I think it's because with Gotchyers, you "get something". With tokenized gamblin', you get bupkiss.

Irony: The primary script in my current workflow chain is a Tokenizer.

But the cost of chips for this casino is completely anomalous. And I can't tell you for sure that that's either because LL is out of touch with its own economy, or because they are confident that SL "gamblers" will readily drop such large sums. Again, though, they've incentivized really large purchases by making them a more efficient way of buying chips -- and that tells me that they are steering people into paying out the upper end of those options.

Theory: LL set the prices high to try and prove that the business model is viable, of paying for a Social Gambling Private Region with just the gambling Token income.

Under this theory, LL could let users who "buy the Social Gaming (Private Region)" business model keep the L$, but LL would control the amounts and ATM's / Tokens.

So does playing Candy Crush. It is more of a score than winning something though

You don't play golf do you. It's all about that winning score. So is bowling come to think of it. And every other game out there that keeps score. There is always a winning score.

They can be gotten for free daily but you can't sell them or use them for anything .... curently. So they have no value. Things of value allow you to turn it into pizza and tacos in time. Currently these fail the pizza and taco test

If they have no value, LL wouldn't charge money for them- the ATM would give you an unlimited supply every time you click.

"The first dose is free" is the motto of drug dealers.

The score only matters if you think it does.

If you play a game against an 8 year old vs. a 38 year old, wouldn't you feel more accomplishment from beating the 38 year old vs. beating the 8 year old, regardless of the score?

I play a stupid little Mahjong matching game on my computer, not for the score but for the dopamine bump. The patterns are listed as Easy, Medium or Hard, but the Medium level ones aren't really harder than the Easy ones. The score I get depends in part on factors I don't understand or agree with, so I don't pay much attention to it. The time it takes to solve the puzzle makes more sense, but even then I know that if I'm tired or distracted, my score and time will be lower, so it really only matters if I feel like it was a good game or not. The little fanfare at the end when I "win" is annoying, even though it's supposed to give a dopamine boost.

I would address this, but it has nothing to do with what I am trying to get people to understand.

The keyword is winning. Winning is what gets the dopamine rush. Very much like the rush you get from mainlining, something I do know way too much about.

I agree with you. I'm just saying that "winning" is whatever feels like "winning".

I'll also add that these casino games are far from the most addictive elements in SL for most users.
(And in this case "users" is a very apt term.)

Couple of things...

1. If you play Blackjack at the low stakes table, the minimum bet is 2 chips, so you would have to play 250 times without winning to lose all your chips. Seems silly to buy more chips. If you are running out and wanna keep playing, just go to the Low Stakes table.

2. The casino build needs to correct a few flaws...

a) Casinos don't usually let you see outside (except for the CalNeva in Crystal Bay NV, former playground of Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack, now shuttered and banlined by Larry Ellison).

b) Needs cushy rooms for high rollers

c) needs a showroom... let people do shows there as if it were a community center

d) bar should serve drinks

3. The build style is generally high class. The lower end casinos in Vegas or on Virgina St. in Reno generally have low ceilings and pack in the slots... could have a section like that in Helios Casino for authenticity.

4. I agree with those that think this whole thing is either just STUPID or is simply a demo region (maybe not so stupid). Back in the early 90s when only nerdy static web pages existed, Silicon Valley tech companies created demo sites for things like info portals, aggregated news, etc. in order to sell their gear and web serving software to media companies. This might be the same thing. Perhaps the customers are those residing in countries that allow internet gambling.

So, I might be banned from in world, but my gambling addiction hotline awareness signs are still available.

Just don't talk to the cops, err Lindens, and don't directly give anything out without being requested for it.

But you can totally chill in the casino and promote healthy gambling practices!

Interesting stuff. It must have cost a lot of money to build this place and to script the different games. Then you have the ATMs.

Now I'm not a gambler but I can't see anyone paying money for chips if you actually can't win anything. To me this place looks like a beta for something else to come.

Was this built by Moles or Lindens?  I think Lindens own the games, right?

I hope LL expects to make some money off this place besides just getting people to buy game tokens.

I hope building it didn't take people away from working on projects residents actually care about.

So I don't know am I the only one that finds it a little unsettling that Anubis, god of the underworld and graves and stuff is SocialCasino Linden's Outfit of choice? XD it's surely nice and well made but also ...an interesting choice 😆

*Didn't wanted to derail the Mole thread 💜

The casino reminds me of Las Vegas, with the desert environment.

Somebody at LL apparently thought an Egyptian theme would be cool in such a setting and liked the Anubis avatar.

It makes as much sense as other themes in Las Vegas. The Luxor has an Egyptian theme too.

Nope! I made a post on Twitter about that. God of funerary rituals and guide to the underworld is our Casino host. Seems fitting for how this Casino is going.

I was in Las Vegas once in the 90s for like 2 days for a wedding of my grandpa's American friend. I was too little to enter any Casino I just remember everything was so very flashy and loud to my eyes and don't get me started on American food XD and I was born and raised in Tokyo 🗼 so a really big city too I can only imagine what someone feels coming there from a small village or such 😂

Could you make those signs into a wearable avatar?

Just wondering, then if someone visits the casino, it's freedom of choice and not protesting.
