So I don't know am I the only one that finds it a little unsettling that Anubis, god of the underworld and graves and stuff is SocialCasino Linden's Outfit of choice? XD it's surely nice and well made but also ...an interesting choice 😆

*Didn't wanted to derail the Mole thread 💜

Sorry, I mis-read this earlier.  I thought this was just a reference to the bartender!

Nice that SocialCasino Linden showed up.  I had no idea SocialCasino Linden was an "actual" Avatar/Linden User.

Now I feel bad for making fun of their build.

Just kidding!

I thought that it all seemed rather intentional when I visited.  Anubis/underworld imagery?  Environment choices that give the impression of heat?  "Gambling" with no possible benefit?  Ability to purchase extra tokens if you did actually play for long periods of time, but only in relatively expensive packages?  The place is called Helios? (Yes, I know what Helios means, I'm just saying.)

Perhaps my sense of humor is just odd.

Regardless, I thought the build was lovely and I'm always happy to see new applications of experience tools and the rest.

My post was filled with humor and sarcasm/cynicism (like a quite high percentage of my posts in general lol) so I guess my sense of humor is just even more odd than yours XD

And don't forget to toss a coin errr token to the ferryman!

It's like converting your Roman "Talents" to "Shekels" before making an offering at the Temple!

Very interesting comparisons.

I doubt LL thought this part through.

This is really the last thing I expected LL to make, after banning gachas I thought it was an ideological stand against abusive practices. But a money-sink casino with no payout, while technically legal, seems like a 180° turn from what I imagined was policy to protect its users.

What gave you the idea that the Linden Lab policy is to "protect its users?" Generally the only reason they pull back on the leash is to avoid negative attention; other than that it's pretty much anything goes. Not even saying that's a bad thing.

Ultimately, is there really that much difference in allowing people spend money to gamble while knowing they'll never being able to win the money back and allowing them to spend money on an imaginary sofa?

not only your humor :)  Helios has nóthing to do with hel(l)

And hell .. most people, and translators make the same mistake ( the translators on purpose to make theology and religion a tool to make people fear death)... the biblical hebrew and greek words that are mostly translated as "hell" are something different. The word hell itself appears only 1 or 2 times in all those words. All the others mean "hades" underwold or gehenna, the offering place for children to Moloch, near Jeruzalem, later used as cemetery.
Also not the most happy places, but the devil isn't waiting there.

Could you make those signs into a wearable avatar?

Just wondering, then if someone visits the casino, it's freedom of choice and not protesting.

Or a T-Shirt!

I'm planning on making some t-shirts and such as well, as soon as my account is accessible again. My graphic skills aren't exactly skilled and I've purposely kept away from that side of things in SL to not find myself going down the rabbit hole. Guess it's time to learn though!

Oh, believe me I know.  I even noted in my post that I know what Helios actually means.  As for the rest . . . my biblical Hebrew professors would be gravely disappointed with me if I weren't already aware of it.

SL TOS:

If the "payout" involves objects that are more akin to novelty objects that cannot readily be converted into Linden dollars, real-world currency or value, then that activity will likely be permitted.

I'm beginning to think there are two main kinds of value:  One is what is called "sentimental value".  To me, sentimental value is something that is subjective to the user and would probably cover all non-transfer items in SL as non-transfer items cannot be "readily converted" into anything.  In real life, sentimental value means the thing doesn't have any readily converted monetary value, it is a thing that holds sentimental value to the individual.

The second main definition of value is "monetary value" and it usually means something that can be sold for money and/or exchanged for something else of value that could also be readily converted into money.   Such as trading a vintage teapot with a neighbor for a bracelet.  Thus, I'm beginning to think the poorly written definition from the SL TOS above really should read nor traded for something of value which also could be readily converted into lindens or real money.

I, personally, think these chips have a value in that a person would get to do something with them which is spin more which could win more free spins but they cannot readily be exchanged for lindens nor into real life money, thus they get a pass.  In short, they are an object that cannot be exchanged, they are no transfer.

Therefore, my conclusion is I don't see any reason why nice prizes could not be given out as long as they are no transfer.

See TOS of SL above from their Gambling Wiki^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

They need to define the above better because there are two kinds of value - sentimental and monetary.

TBH, I thought "Helios" was a "sun" reference!

Yep!

Interesting, Google says that the "burning garbage dump" theory of Gehenna is actually false! TIL!

That being said, a "Dumpster Fire" is a nice analogy for something more topical.  I won't say exactly what, because y'know, there's got to be a line someplace, right?

Right?

LL only banned gachas to protect their own a** .  It had absolutely nothing to do with residents' protection.

Anubis was an Egyptian god; the casino is named for a Greek god.

I'm starting to see a pattern here.

Useless but weird observation: There's a separate 28m x 36m parcel carved out for the "Low Stakes Play" section. Has its own landing point.

Neither parcel appears to be listed in Search although the region name turns up in search results along with the Destination Guide entry. If you search for "Helios Casino" though (or any "Casino") it will fuss: "It seems you've searched for something outside our TOS, or outside your current maturity settings."

Try searching for just Helios?

That's more an also sentence.  The first part basically they can do anything they choose to do with it.

otherwise exploit in any manner whatsoever, all or any portion of your User Content (and derivative works thereof), for any purpose whatsoever in all formats, on or through any media, software, formula, or medium now known or hereafter developed, and with any technology or devices now known or hereafter developed, and to advertise, market, and promote the same.

It should also be noted that LL does not lay claim to copyrights etc. because, legally, they can't. In fact, it is specifically stated in the ToS that they do not.

Which one? They are all karma-relevant! I guess Kali is my obvious choice (for complicated reasons I won't go into).

Not sure the fascination with Casinos and "Egypt", except 1) Las Vegas was a desert before being "built", and 2) The ongoing and perennial universal fascination with Egypt.

Whichever one has the most arms?
