Someone on the Forum collects information on "most popular mesh bodies and heads", ranked by usage seen in-world. I forget who, but didn't see in this thread: where does Slink fall in the most recent rankings? If towards the bottom, that says a lot.

I grab the numbers almost every day.. It's kind of become something I find interesting..  I actually just got finished grabbing them a little bit ago..

I'll post the top 10 and then where the slinks are sitting..

It's a list of 300 on the  main list, so I don't want to eat up a whole page in the thread..There are more detailed lists, but this one is mainly how many wearers each one currently is showing.. where the other lists show more stats and trends and predictions.

@Lucia Nightfire Is the one that created the system..

What makes a mesh body successful? Creators support. If the NUX body is basic and less than what’s available, then creators will not create for it and it’ll just be dead on arrival. If LL really said they aim to make a basic body to not compete with the resident businesses, I’m shocked. There are many bodies that didn’t get adopted even though they’re actually not bad, because creators didn’t adopt it.

The difference with NUX is that the creator kit will be freely available to everybody. You won;t even need to apply for it. It will be right there in your Library.  This means that anyone can learn to rig cloting using NUX. You won't have to beg cap-in-hand to a mesh-body creator, demonstrate a store-full of products you've already made, and hope that they trust you enough.  So yes, there will be people rigging for NUX. Not the big name established stores, but new creators in the process of learning their craft, making and selling clothing for the first time.

Once they can demonstrate a store full of NUX products, then they'll be able to apply for other brands' dev kits.

Sure, the results won't be the best quality but they will be something, enough for new users to get by for a few months until they decide which of the commercial mesh bodies is their preferred replacement.

Jake actually was above Gianni at one point.. I'm not sure what went on there really.. I just remember Jake being the number one male body  like back in late spring early summer..

ETA: I'm gonna take that back, only because I've been bitten by my memory too many times..

I'll just say I could swear Jake was above Gianni at one point.. I just remember a conversation with a group in world and talking about the top mesh bodies and Jake being the male one..

What I really need to do is save these  numbers so I have better  solid reference than my memory..lol

I didn't read the OP to suggest that LL "bail out" the Slink business in any way, but rather to possibly leverage existing assets to meet the Lab's already-stated objectives, perhaps quicker than the NUX bodies (which are apparently delayed, perhaps coincident with general availability of PBR materials across the main grid).

(That doesn't mean Chai and Cinnamon are particularly suitable candidates, though. I have no idea.)

Also, it suddenly occurred to me that Slink may only have a limited license for some of the content in those bodies, so it may not be so simple to sell them to the Lab for redistribution, however "openly". Or maybe she did all the work herself, or got any contributed content as works for hire, in which case this wouldn't apply.

What mostly interests me about this proposal (if it's viable) is that I hate to see all the creative effort that went into Slink just fade as the products age into obscurity, if there's some way for all that content to be a base for future creators to build on.

I think you’re missing the point of OPs post. LL has a history of not delivering… for example speedlight instead of building a mobile app. Why not just work with existing creator with a proven history of good solid work, because their team that they’re paying loads of money to employ is not delivering.

I wear Maitreya now, but if Maitreya disappeared, I would just go around as a floating head because all the other bodies look like blown up ballon animals with huge butts. The popular mesh list doesn’t say much in regards to good taste.

I've pretty much settled with My Erika body now.. It's not getting a lot of  the big support than a lot of the top 10 bodies are getting.. But the range you can go with that body and how well it is made and everything that comes with it.. In my opinion, the best body isn't sitting in the top 10, just the most popular ones..

I can take my Erika and go full on curvy or heavy or  get down to standard looking or physically fit..

The add-on's that other body users have to buy and the deformers that take up attach points, are all built into the Erika body..

i wish it had much more  creators making more variety of clothes for it, but it just takes a little hunting and also working with the things in the wardrobe..  I will say, switching to a better body rather than one that has  a lot of things made for it, has me saving more money, plus getting me a bit more creative with piecing things together.. Something i used to really be good at before I let myself get sucked into the current quick hit market that really is lacking in creativity these days..

There are some nice things out there being made, but there is also a lot of crap.. hehehe

This is my flo jo that i made with my Erika body.. Ever since I made this shape, I've been get hit up for my shape numbers a lot.. hehehe  I'm running out of excuses..  I don't think they are going to buy the, it's from a friend and not mod, much longer.. hehehe

I swear this is the last time I'm gonna post this set of pictures.. Don't anybody scalp me yet.. hehehe

52546091596_970a92b859_h.jpg

Maitreya  is nice for some things and it was really hard to pull me away from it.. It has a lot of content made for it, It's the number one most popular body and nothing else comes close in popularity  to it by like a huge amount of wearers.. But for myself, I never felt so good with any mesh body out there having a nice well made legs and hip into rib smooth transition as with my Erika.. The range is for me that I can go with this body is just much better..

It's a taste thing though and not saying my taste is the best at all.. But Erika can be brought down into range without the outstanding butt and hips.. you can take it flat chested as well unlike a lot of the others that are built more for Hips and  butt.

It's not perfect perfect and has it's flaws too. But I think it's just really versatile in what we can do with it.. it just needs  more versatility  in the outfit area is all.. hehehe

I was surprised that the Slink bodies are so high up. #16 for the male and #19 for Hourglass.

The rigging for male Slink is almost gone in new releases and weekend sales. Maybe the ones who use Slink male has enough from earlier years.

I would have placed it around #30 if I had to guess.

What does all this mean with Lara at 33% when I've seen BREATHE, a fabulous shoe company put a shoe on sale almost every Friday or Weekend sale for well over a year now, and Breathe's shoes are mostly Maitreya or only Maitreya.  I'm not sure on that. Plus, I have a friend who only sells Maitreya shoes and the shoes are super low priced, well under 75 Linden every single day and almost none sell or maybe sell one pair a year..

Then Blueberry had another half price sale over the New Year's Holidays and I'm thinking well Blueberry must be having another holiday sale because stuff is only selling for the newer Kardasian type bodies so Blueberry may be going the way of Breathe, it's not Kardasian enough.

I'm wondering if some of those Maitreya bodies are bots now because I don't see it reflected in the sales that Maitreya is that popular.  Yeah, I'm joking on the bots, but this data on it's popularity does not reflect what I've seen.

As far as LL buying SLINK, I have no opinion on it as I don't know the new SLINK bodies nor do I know the direction LL wants to go in the new year.

SLINK doesn't need SL to buy it.  If she wanted a buyer, couldn't she have just put it up for sale?

I just got the short stat numbers that show mostly the rankings..  The numbers on the end of each one are the amount of wearers each has, which moves them up or down the list.. I guess I forgot to add the header  for the list to show what each thing is..

I'll post the top 10 from each list and put the headers in below.. Sorry about that, it was still kind of early morning for me..:$

Because favoritism..?

Unless LL were to buy their assets and use that as a base for the NUX, for example.  For all we know, LL did something like that for NUX (with some creator).

For the male, it might have something to do with there being few male bodies on the market with any significant user base at all. That said, with Maitreya commanding a full third of the entire mesh body market, the percentages for anything below the top ten are pretty much competing with rounding error.

Not everyone goes shopping all the time, some don't go shopping at all..The Numbers are  about wearers of the bodies, not the ones out shopping and buying things for them all the time.. These aren't event and store numbers, they are grid numbers..

Maitreya has been around for a long time and been the most popular for a long time.. there are a lot wearing these different bodies  that are doing a lot of other things.. A lot of them never change their bodies or collect bodies and are happy with the one they have..

Look at how much GenX has getting made for it and hardly any of the Belleza older body wearers have budged towards the Genx..  There is over 9,000 older belleza body wearers.. When the GenX came out, hardly any of them moved to the GenX bodies.. GenX with both bodies, Curvy and Classic combined only have like around 350 wearers maybe a little more.. But have all these creators adding them to their list of bodies they rig for..

The amount of things made for a body nowadays doesn't equal how many are using them.. The main reason so many are rigging for GenX is because of the Belleza name.. It's not because of wearer numbers..

I think male bodies don't move around as much as the female bodies do in the rankings.. I don't think they shop as much as we do.. hehehe

I was telling guys about the lelutka head and all the things they could get while the stores were giving away all that stuff.. A lot of them were like, yea, maybe, we'll see.. Some were like Hell ya! some were more just like, meh.. hehehe

Yes, I understand people don't go shopping all the time but the stats you show show 33% of bodies on the grid are Maitreya.  And, what I was trying to say is it doesn't add up to what's going on in sales for Maitreya.  I mean you have to change your outfit sometimes, at least.

I don't think I want to take these stats as meaning much at all.

If someone wants to buy SLINK and think they could do something with it, they should contact the creator.

BTW,  I love your Erica photos, the body looks very realistic.  I'd never heard of it before.

I have heard @animats say that one day all clothes will fit every body.  I wonder how soon that technology will come to pass because all these bodies is a lot to put on creators...

I can take my Erica and go full on curvy or heavy or  get down to standard looking or physically fit..

The add-on's that other body users have to buy and the deformers that take up attach points, are all built into the Erica body..

i wish it had much more  creators making more variety of clothes for it, but it just takes a little hunting and also working with the things in the wardrobe..  I will say, switching to a better body rather than one that has  a lot of things made for it, has me saving more money, plus getting me a bit more creative with piecing things together.. Something i used to really be good at before I let myself get sucked into the current quick hit market that really is lacking in creativity these days..

There are some nice things out there being made, but there is also a lot of crap.. hehehe

This is my flo jo that i made with my Erica body..

Don't anybody scalp me yet.. hehehe

Maitreya  is nice for some things and it was really hard to pull me away from it.. It has a lot of content made for it, It's the number one most popular body and nothing else comes close in popularity  to it by like a huge amount of wearers.. But for myself, I never felt so good with any mesh body out there having a nice well made legs and hip into rib smooth transition as with my Erica.. The range is for me that I can go with this body is just much better..

It's a taste thing though and not saying my taste is the best at all.. But Erica can be brought down into range without the outstanding butt and hips.. you can take it flat chested as well unlike a lot of the others that are built more for Hips and  butt.

It's not perfect perfect and has it's flaws too. But I think it's just really versatile in what we can do with it.. it just needs  more versatility  in the outfit area is all.. hehehe

Yeah, your takes are awesome! I had debated buying one for myself recently, but settled on just letting my favorite alt, Sehrina, use it as her main body. (She does have a Freya and BoM Atenea on tap, so no problem with scoring clothes overall.)

I really am amazed at what's been built into the Erika over time, it's incredible!

Dont worry, I won't scalp you! Sehrina is good, she loves her own minor shape tweaks :D she has to handle catcalls occasionally because of it, but that doesn't stop her from enjoying SL!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is the top 10 of short stat list of where the top 300 mesh bodies are ranking in wearers, that I already posted, but including the header this time.. hehehe

Top 300 mesh bodies with 421242 unique wearers:

Rank # | Model Name | Count | % (Count / 421242)

#1 : Maitreya - Lara : 139381 : 33.0%
#2 : Signature - Gianni : 31472 : 7.4%
#3 : Belleza - Jake : 23302 : 5.5%
#4 : MeshBody - Legacy (Female) : 21328 : 5.0%

#9 : MeshBody - Legacy (Male) : 11867 : 2.8%
#10 : LucyBody - Atenea : 10379 : 2.4%

please correct me if I am wrong - this looks like the numbers are accumulated since they started counting.

if they are accumulated, then they say literally nothing about the current status of worn bodies.

On topic... this relative newb (?) says nope. Let the NUX be whatever is released, for now. There's likely been enough development on the bodies already, and I have watched some of the preview videos on YouTube. I'll grab a couple when they drop for all of us to mess with.

Siddean needs her break. Sure, selling one of her IPs would give her some more profit, but that doesn't seem to be important to her at the moment IMO.

I wonder how soon that technology will come to pass...

Oh I see what you are saying..

The list is of the top 300 mesh bodies altogether, each taking their percentage of the wearers.. There are more mesh bodies than 300.. Some have fell off the list.. the more you go down the list the more the percentage of wearers drops. a body doesn't even get 1.0% on that list until it's inside the top 20

Most of the rest of the list is like 0.1% from  rank 39 down to 300..

Also, that is not including system avatars numbers and people  wearing those.. it's just the top 300 mesh bodies..

It's a long list and each one getting a percent of their own wearers of the 421242 unique wearers

If you  take the whole amount of wearers being counted, which is, 421242 wearers in total,  subtract 33%, give or take the small partial percentages that some bodies only have.. you come up with that number..  I came up with this number139,009.86... But that's just doing a straight 33% and not doing all the little math involved to get it accurate..

I'll just post the top 50 to hopefully give a better idea of what is going on to show how fast the percentage of wearers drops and how fast the more you move away from the top 20..

I just don't want to post 300 lines of stats and eat up a whole page.. hehehe

I hope I'm not misunderstanding things again.. hehehe

I'm sure that @Lucia Nightfire could explain it much better than me.. But from my understanding the numbers get updated each day and are gathered by bots and objects scanning across the grid.. The number at the top I believe is the number that was counted that day..

It's probably not best to look at them every day to see too much of a change, maybe once a week is best..But they seem to line up well with a lot of things, like wearers dropping in some areas of mesh heads as the lelutka free mesh heads were given away and then seeing how quickly those mesh heads moved up..

There was a quick response in the change in numbers with that event..  For me it's kind of fun to go back and see if those numbers stay or go up or drop after a couple of weeks, to kind of give an idea of who stayed with their Raven head or who went back to their older head..

I still use a 'system' avatar, which is fine unless you want to take close-ups of hands or feet!  I've tried mesh demos and the free Ruth 2.0 BOM, which is quite good but not what I was looking for.

I'm looking forward to Linden Lab launching the NUX avatars. The preview one a few months ago looked realistic. I'm not sure we've been informed yet whether the NUX will be a new, better precision version of the 'system' avatar or a wearable mesh one.

Anyway, I want to see what NUX turns out like, so I don't think LL should buy up an existing range of bodies.

I don't think Breathe and Blueberry putting Maitreya stuff on weekend sales means they're not selling! (And neither is exclusively Maitreya. I own a bunch of Breathe shoes that have Freya and Legacy and I forget what else because I delete the sizes I don't wear. Same with Blueberry clothes.) Weekend sales drum up enthusiasm and get people into your store, and while they're there, sometimes they buy other stuff. Or they decide they like the sale item and go back for more. It's not necessarily a desperation move.
