It seems odd that there is no thread here for landscape photography, which is actually a pretty popular genre of photograph in SL. So I thought I'd start one! I am not disinterested: I've been fo

Thanks! And probably, though you're clearly not alone... I don't even want to hazard a guess regarding the psychology behind that! 😏😆 I wanted to add these pics purely because I simply adore this

This is challenging but this shot is on Mainland. We have come a long ways

I actually love Mainland. Probably half of my photos are taken there: there are some really lovely, and lovingly created, corners.

I love mainland, too! People who say mainland looks horrendous need a car and some very serious exploring to do. Here is a beautifully landscaped coastline estate and stable not too far from where I live.

I don't even know if I've ever BEEN on mainland

I am sure you have been. It's not always obvious. And there are a great many stores, communities, art galleries, and so on that are there.

The curfew tolls the knell of parting day,
The lowing herd wind slowly o'er the lea,
The plowman homeward plods his weary way,
And leaves the world to darkness and to me.

Now fades the glimm'ring landscape on the sight,
And all the air a solemn stillness holds,
Save where the beetle wheels his droning flight,
         And drowsy tinklings lull the distant folds;

Save that from yonder ivy-mantled tow'r
The moping owl does to the moon complain
Of such, as wand'ring near her secret bow'r,
         Molest her ancient solitary reign.

From Thomas Gray, Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard (1751)

This picture was taken as Skrunda, a sim modeled after the real Latvian town of Skrunda-1, leased by the Soviet Union as a forward radar station in the 1960s, and abandoned by the Russian Confederation in 1998. It is now a ghost town, a state reflected in the sim.
