About 13,000-16,000 years give or take... Prior to that, any Siberians and Kamchatcans heading across the Bering Strait tended to end up as Kamchatka God-Bear Chow...

Imagine a Super Grizzly, on steroids, with longer legs, that can out run a horse...

Humans tended not to survive the attempted crossing because your typical late ice age extended family grouping couldn't face down these monsters.

Colonisation had to wait for Global warming to drive the beasts into extinction.

Some claim that the native Americans arrived earlier, but basically got stuck in western Alaska, waiting for the glacial ice sheet to roll back off the rest of the continent

Some how I doubt the first "Native American" settlers in western Alaska were building many apartment blocks or chewing a lot of coca leaf, or making anything out of maize...

Call me a cynic if you like.

Just  because a native culture had some particular thing 500-1000 years ago, doesn't mean that they had it 16,000 years ago when their ancestors arrived in a totally different climate in a totally different part of the continent.

16,000 years ago in western Alaska, end of an Ice Age? No Mayan calenders, no pyramids, no Amazonian herbal remedies, no petroleum industry, no apartment blocks...

Some claim it's from "Amerigo Vespucci"? Others point to one of John Cabot's backers being a jewish merchant in Bristol called "Americus". Not that it matters much.

Just saying,I doubt those two came over in all that time and showed them how to do it..Just like nobody showed up preaching about this really great thing they discovered called a zero.

Saying they invented pharmaceuticals doesn't mean, they invented them all..

But thinking they were only good enough to come up with tipi and canoes is kind of silly..

Honestly I don't even understand the big deal about Europe hating on Americans and who did what first, since a lot of them came from over there anyways..

It really doesn't matter who invented something other than someone thinking it gives themselves something up on another person, when they didn't even invent it themselves..

Everyone is gonna use whatever, if they want it or need it.

Give the U.S. time, they are only a couple hundred years old compared to how old it is over there..

I couldn't make out the five. There was the telephone. I think that was a U.S. invention. And there was putting stuff in space, but that wasn't an invention. The rockets that facitlitated it was, of course, but that was a German invention if you don't count the Chinese rockets centuries earlier. I couldn't make out what the other three were.

It might have been the communication satellite..like I said,I don't know if those are true or not really..

Wrong way round...

Read back, That whole "Murica Rulez, you commies!" thing, it's not unique, I've seen other Muricans make similar claims, such as claiming that Murica didn't NEED anything invented in Europe after 1776...

Then you point out how backward Murica would be without post-1776 Euro-Tech, and said Muricans get all huffy...

Just saying... Standing up and claiming that...

"Petroleum refining and apartment blocks were invented 16,000 years ago by Mr. Paints-His-Bottom-Red, and his wife Smells-Like-A-Rotting-Buffalo so Native Murica Rulz, you commies!"

... isn't going to earn you any forum brownie points, nor is boasting about "how long we've been here" and "drops in the ocean" when comparing 16,000 years against a few HUNDRED thousand years for the old world.

It just comes across as another pathetic variation on "[insert faction here]-American Pretentions".

"Yeah we [whatever]-Americans invented punk rock and kebabs and Cheddar cheese, and the English language, and wheels! An we did it long before you Euro-Honkys did anything so there..."

But you don't simply express opinions that are contrary or controversial. I've seen others express controversial opinions from time to time, and while not often accepted warmly they are not called trolls.
You are called a troll because you're not serious about having a discussion....you only want to argue and berate others who are on the left side of the political spectrum.
It's obvious your mission is to put down "lefties". You are not trying to have any kind of real debate. That's why you are a troll.

to be honest its generally impossible to have a debate with leftists since they immediately dig into their bag of stock labels and apply the ones that seem to fit best.

Now you're putting words in my mouth and godmodding again like the last time we went back and forth..also never called anyone a name or a commie or went that direction..unlike you have.

You want to try to escalate things,it's not gonna happen here..

You asked for some original inventions and you got some..Don't like that you got some, tough biscuits, get some milk (winks)

Actually it is possible to debate with leftists, what I can't say about the folks from the right part of the political spectrum. :P

I've had a lot of people all over from centrist to left debate with me, and I am as leftist as you can get (I'm so leftist, being called a Commie actually nails it ;) )

And then there are those special forumites who just jump to hug any insult they can spot crying "MINE! This one is targeted at me!". Deciding to feel attacked by almost anything is the most funny attention seeking behaviour I ever encountered - and so tempting too, but please stop teasing us...

You fraudulently claiming that refugees from Siberia heading east 16,000 years ago invented pharmacuticals and petroleum refining long before anyone in the Old World, isn't "Original Inventions" nor is it hard biscuits.

It's just another Muricvan playing the "Lie about how great Murica is... Murica Rulez, you Euro-Commies" with an added streak of ethno-pretentious  bigotry.

When did I ever say they invented them 16,000 years ago? Go back and read again, you won't find me saying that..You won't find me putting a time on any of it actually..

let alone  those are not the only things on that list that I put up..

I just said those other places were around about 2000,3000 years ago..A drop in the bucket compared to how long we have been over here..

Does that sound like I would be a patriot for the U.S.? Think about that for a minute..

If it does then you know less about the history over here than I gave you credit for at first.

You're looking for a patriot to ague with, when you're not talking to one.

From the way I see the names getting tossed around..I don't see me throwing too many in your direction..so you may want to put a check on who the bigot is before people start looking in your direction..

just saying..

anyways,we're done..When the name tossing comes out,it's pretty much over.

This just started out as something to do for kicks and not really meant to get all serious and crazy with.. You're just way too emotional for me right now..

Television

Hmmm questionable, John Logie Baird was demonstrating his system in a London department store in 1925. He even broadcast the annual horse race called the Derby, one year for the BBC.

I wonder why Philo T. Farnswoth got credit?

I think both sides have a tendency to apply labels that don't always fit entirely.

What did you mean by "when the left has completed its task of destroying america through degeneracy..."

How do you perceive leftists as degenerate?

Ahh yes, the Baird Televisor -- rockin' 30 lines of resolution and an image "about the size of a postage stamp" in this convenient console...

Do you feel any guilt advocating a system that has resulted in 150 million deaths worldwide at the hands of people claiming to be what you are?

Oh I know, I know, they weren't "real" communists, they corrupted the ideals of the revolution for their own selfish ends, but next time you'll get it right.

Both the left and the right are ridiculous at times IMO. Both say exactly the same things about one another. I used to be a pure lefty and detested the right. Then one day I figured to myself that I should start listening to both sides of the argument and make a more educated and informed decision than just listening to one side and making assumptions about the other. From doing this I realised that both the left and the right make some good points and they also make some equally stupid points. The left make some good points in that we really should be more accepting of one another, purely because its just a decent thing as a human being to do, also that we should be more open to things that perhaps we might not usually be and try not to judge and condemn people just because they do not fit into your idea of what life should be. The right also make some good points such as we probably shouldn't be so thin skinned, we do need to retain our right to free speech and the right to disagree with something if we don't like it for some reason. Its why I now advocate for this way of thinking https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Third_Way

I totally get where you are coming from on this. In my case, they don't have any real hard core rightwingers to argue with, so they hang all sorts of hateful names on someone, anyone, that disagrees with their world view.

I have read it. I think certain aspects of socialism are pretty good. But personally I prefer a capitalist society. I can progress further for one. But I do agree with the notion that the left and the right should come together and take the best of each in an attempt to make something that would actually benefit the world.

I meant I read it. The left will never compromise on their stated goal of world domination. Any compromise a leftist makes is just an attempt to confuse and deceive.

Some will, not all lefties are that hard core. The far left is for sure but then so are the far right, the far left are on a crusade thats on a whole other level though xD. But most of my friends in real life are left leaning and more than just me (though I'm a centrist) accepts that the right does make some good points on some issues. I think the issue is that, for the most part the only ones we really seem to see and experience and get in our face about things are those from the far sides of the spectrum. People like me who are either centrist or left leaning are generally quieter and more chill about things and are not liable to get up in your face TOO much about our beliefs UNLESS a conversation such as this is already happening.
