How do you feel about LL putting itself on an equal footing as estate owners and subdividing and selling all of the mainland for 1 L per parcel? Mainland is largely empty because its almost impossible to buy mainland as compared to buying on an estate.

Perhaps with all that new tier coming in, LL could then lower the rates.

They did basically that in 2011 - all abandoned land automatically went on sale for L$1/sm.

Land value for private sellers plummeted.

Meanwhile, many of those who bought the cheap land couldn't afford to pay tier on it and ended up abandoning it shortly afterwards, often after their ill-advised business plans went on the rocks.

I can't complain because that's how my family enterprise got a nice chunk of roadside land back then, but it certainly wasn't effective at revitalizing Mainland.

on 2. Tier is essentially a real estate tax.  Bring the tax down, so that property owners can earn a positive cash flow, and property owners will stop letting land sit.  The goal should always be to keep land developed - keep the economy going.  It's just like the outside world - government has to balance what it sucks out of the economy in taxes against what it needs to continue operating.  Right now the SL government is choking the life out of their economy.  In economics it's called the Laffer curve.  Lower taxes often mean more growth, which then creates more tax revenue than would be collected with the economy that is not growing.

So, you're making the Ronald Reagan tax plan argument (which George H.W. Bush called "voodoo economics" before he became vice president.)

Let's go to the tapes:

Reagan reduced taxes. The government deficits ballooned. Then the economy grew. But the deficits kept getting bigger anyway.

The US didn't start running a surplus on the government budget until the 1990's thanks to the technology boom. That boom, incidentally, happened after a tax increase.

Meanwhile, unlike a government, a private company can't run a deficit indefinitely.

Social Island is a No Build sim so unless they were using script only animation override HUDs, you're treating text the exact same way you'd treat everything else.

That is not even getting into the fact that if such a thing actually transpired then the proper response has already been outlined for you here. See here's the thing; Linden Lab can't do anything if they never get a Report.

Since you edited this to add in a bit more ...

'Kids' are not allowed onto SL. Teenagers sixteen and older are however their experience is a bit more limited/controlled. Beyond that what your kid sees on the screen of your computer is in your hands, know what is appropriate to use when they are around and what is not and plan accordingly.

Maybe the problem is that this platform attracts the fringe who would defend anything that upsets others.

George W. Bush was an awful President for economic growth you know.

But it should be worth noting that Obama created more debt than all the previous Presidents combined....  so there is definitely a culture of people in DC who are quite happy to attempt to run indefinite deficits.

Theresa Tennyson looks around.

Okay, who wants to tell Chinami that George Herbert Walker Bush and George Walker Bush were father and son, and the events I was describing were 20 years before George W. Bush was elected?

Not even taking account of the fact that George W. Bush, the "awful President for economic growth", made tax cuts a big part of his economic growth strategy...

What the lindens have to do must do is make prostitution and stripping illegal in SL forever

Why? It is an income source for LL. People who pay to play or those who frequent strip clubs also buy Linden. If you don't care for it, it is easy to avoid.

Nah, the problem is that there are people who know nothing at all about the platform and insist upon using it in front of those whom it has always been inappropriate for.

omg really? i thought that would be a wonderful idea. Except my idea is $1 L per parcel, not $1 L per sq m

How is buying land from LL for 1 L any different than buying from a private estate owner for $1L? You still have to pay tier/rent every month,

Its not Linden Lab's fault people got greedy. I say bring in $1 L per parcel land sales to mainland and watch mainland become populated again.

That is one way to look at it.

You could also look at is the platform has a customer base built on what it has offered for 14 years who are not likely to want an outsider to fix what is not broken.

the  real problem is it realy is real prostitution cuz they get paid lindens that they then withdraw to a real bank account turning it into real money that includes the lindens they get  for webcamwhorin and stripping

Since phone sex lines and such are not illegal I'd have to say you're barking up the wrong tree.

Thanks for stopping by though!

if money is involved

Oh, but there is no money involved.  According to the TOS, linden dollars "have no monetary value (i.e. are not a cash account or equivalent) and are purchases of only a limited, non-exclusive, revocable, non-assignable, personal, and non-transferable license to use content Inworld."

LOL
