Global Warming Winter by Rachel Breaker

Global Warming Winter acknowledges the obvious catastrophic global changes that are ongoing. Rachel expresses a realization of how absurd our dystopic future(s) really could be. Her built environment is a nod to simulated climates of outdoor waterparks. Not unlike the whimsically painted concrete and themed backdrops alluding to paradise within completely manmade terrain. In this installation, she critiques the materiality of simulated natural environments, a motif we may end up seeing more of as our myriad of climates progressively alter.

Avilion

Avilion is a medieval fantasy role play, combat, and arts land. On the weekend of September 18th to 20th, 2020, they will be celebrating their 14th Annual Medieval Harvest Festival. It is a full weekend of games, events, parties, surprises, and celebration of community in a magical autumn landscape that has consistently drawn crowds over its long life. All are welcome. Since they are a medieval community, they ask that visitors wear medieval clothing. Free outfits available at the gate.

Club EFS

Club EFS is the home of the Epic Failure Show hosted by Geerkil Ziskey and friends. Catering to furries, large enough for feral dragons, this outdoor club brings you the best from the '70s, '80s, and '90s with humor and great fun. Indigo Waters

Indigo Waters is a unique underwater experience. A long time ago, deep beneath the sea a submarine crashed and now the ecosystem has claimed the remains as its own. Virtual Black Rock City Week

As a recognized Universe in Burning Man's Multiverse, Burn2 is having a "VRC Week" in its own virtual Regional environment called Deep Hole. A limited number of visitors will be able to access the event with avatars, and they will find a place filled with things that are strongly evocative of the beloved Black Rock City - with none of the dust, heat, or pungent odors we've known. There will be a Man Burn on Burn Night, and there will also be a rendering of the Empyrean Temple that will burn on August 30th, 11:00 am PT/SLT. The event runs from August 30th to September 7th. Kairos at The Janus Gallery

STRUKTURO

"STRUKTURO" is a sound installation space produced by noise-classical musician Tia Rungray. The concept of his installation space is "the structural decomposition of the human psyche". Based on this concept, he presents his characteristic noise-classical music. Several placed virtual speakers allow visitors to enjoy his music in three-dimensional sound.

The Warehouse Sale Event

The Warehouse Sale Event is a post-apocalyptic themed region. This is a monthly shopping event that opens on the 23rd. A new real-world destination is opening up their virtual location in Second Life tomorrow. The Peale is a purpose-built museum building in Baltimore. Join us at The Peale’s Founder’s Day Virtual Open House in SecondLife on Saturday, August 15th starting at 8am PT/SLT. You can also watch it on our YouTube live stream.   

The Peale

The Peale in Baltimore, which is housed in the first purpose-built museum building in the United States, has extended its reach into the virtual world known as Second Life. While the current pandemic may prevent many people from visiting the Peale in person, this ambitious new project allows virtual visitors to explore the 1814 museum building online and attend curated exhibits and interactive events safely from the comfort of their homes. The Glinka Gallery

The Glinka Gallery is a group of four galleries dedicated to fine art, photography, poetry, music, and dance by SL artists. Glinka Gallery One focuses on new art exhibitions. Glinka Gallery Two is home to the permanent collection of art and photography from previous shows. The Fibonacci Gallery is dedicated to the short-form poetry that adheres to the Fibonacci number sequence. The Frank O'Hara Building is a poetry gallery for Second Life poets. There is also the Frank O'Hara room for special events and readings. The piazza is home to Glinka gallery's resident dance group The Sway & Dance Troupe who mix choreography, music, and poetry in their very visual dance spectaculars. The gallery director is real-world novelist and poet, Wolfgang Glinka.

Art Atelier Gallery

At the Art Atelier Gallery you will find Contemporary Art Exhibitions by real-world artists. From August 15th to September 15th there will be an exhibition called Conversatorios (Conversations) that will be held in collaboration with the Museo Omar Reina de San Rafael (Argentina). Eight artists will be participating: Ledo Lisbeth, Carlos Ocaña, María Cantera, Antonio Camba, Irene Mancino, Leticia Rossi, Montse Bassols, and Marcela Brizuela.

The Janus Gallery

Curated by Chuck Clip, this gallery is named for the Roman god of new beginnings, transitions, doorways, and time. They hope to usher in a new era of art in Second Life while keeping an eye on the roots they came from. Ethnographic Exhibits of Two Cultures

The Community Virtual Library (CVL) presents an ethnographic exhibit of two lowland tropical rain forest indigenous cultures of the Republic of Panama. The exhibit, designed by Nexus Dot, a cultural anthropologist, in collaboration with co-curator, and media specialist, Shiloh Emmons, highlights two decades of Nexus’s ethnographic research. The Our Time is Now Exhibit can be found at the Community Virtual Library. Curated by MadMax Cyrado, the exhibit displays photography by Black Artists in Second Life and will run from July 17th to August 21st.

A new art installation by Second Life artist, Bryn Oh!

Bryn Oh's Mythical Creatures

Mythical creatures is a collection of 21 figures from folklore, legends and myths that Bryn has modelled. In a twist, these models are split in two and can be seamlessly combined with other creatures to make new ones. Learn about ones you know like the Medusa or discover obscure ones like La Sayona or Jorogumo.

Endless 58-58N

Endless 58-58N is a full region build by Sombre Nyx, inspired by Orkney, an archipelago of about 70 islands found to the north-east of Scotland. It is a destination renowned for its many wildlife populations and gorgeous vistas and landscapes, with terrain that ranges from wetlands, farmlands and rolling moors to dramatic sea cliffs and sandy beaches. In this virtual world, you'll find glimpses of the real place, hints and impressions of it. Above the Orkneys are other builds by Sombre Nyx, and YES by Jackson Cruyff.

The Zsigmond Gallery of Fine Arts is presently showing "At The End Of The Day" a collection of 36 oil paintings honoring veterans of WWII. With a theme of reconciliation, these paintings show Canadian, American, British, and German Veterans as they were when originally created in 2003.

Leonardo De ArtBot is a modern bot artist who came to Second Life in 2020 to show its work to a wider audience. Little Santorini

Little Santorini is a Second Life destination based off of the Greek Islands. The region is beautiful and immersive. You can walk on the volcanic sand beach with your lover or take a stroll through the markets as the locals sell their wares. You are able to rent authentic Greek-style homes whether you want to feel more like a local, or spoil yourself with a luxurious villa stay. There are plenty of other things to do such as scuba diving, visiting the hot springs, view from the lighthouse, cozy bonfire area, horseback riding, and taking pictures with donkeys, the list goes on!

Arrela Kingdom Romantic Paradise is a wonderful region dedicated to Love. A full intan to enjoy, a beautiful balloon and boat ride, formal promenade, fairy falls, ghost falls, and warrior falls are just some of the lovely attractions. There's also castle ruins, the ruins grotto, pretty gazebos, Craig Na Dun, and many beautiful photo areas and interesting spots to relax that make Arrela a true sanctuary.

Stand for Justice - In Support of Black Lives is a very important fundraiser that starts today at 12pm PT/SLT. 

Stand for Justice - In Support of Black Lives

Stand for Justice is a fundraising effort within the virtual world Second Life dedicated to raising funds for Black Lives Matter, Black Visions Collective, Campaign Zero, the National Police Accountability Project, and a Split Bail Fund benefitting 38+ bail funds nationwide. The fundraiser will begin at 12pm Noon SLT on Friday, June 5th, 2020, and feature a grand variety of Second Life creators setting their items out for sale with 100% of the proceeds going towards the fundraiser. The fundraiser will be running for at least the next 4 weeks and will continue to accept new creators. For more information, visit their website: https://standforjustice.carrd.co

Celebrate Pride in Second Life by attending the numerous events this month, here are just a couple going on right now, find more in our LGBT category.

Second Pride Festival

The 2020 Second Pride Festival will be held June 5th through June 14th and is the 16th annual celebration of Second Pride in Second Life This year's theme is “Together”. Performances run all day throughout the event, including dance parties with live DJs, performances by live singers, drag queens, and others, as well as a performance by the Men in Motion Dance troupe. You will also find designer shops, art exhibits and more. Everyone is welcome!

SL Pride at Home

Welcome to SL Pride at Home, a Pride-themed hop & shop event starting June 1st! Due to Covid-19 - the world is pretty much still on a complete shutdown. In turn causing a lot of things to have been canceled, especially mass public events, one of which is Pride. SL Pride at Home wants to acknowledge gay pride month, showing support to the LGBTQ+ community throughout June. With the help of an amazing array of designers offering up exclusive Pride items at their mainstores, which will be priced at 99L each! You can drop by this starting location and grab a notecard from June 1st of all participating designers! Pride is still so very important. Equality is still being threatened around the world to this day. Everyone can celebrate Pride because Pride is founded in love, tolerance, and acceptance. Whether you are part of the LGBTQ+ community or an ally, you are welcome!

Relay For Life of Second Life 2020

Celebrate cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost, and fight back alongside the largest community of cancer-fighting avatars in Second Life. Explore 45 regions of beautiful and interactive experiences that embody the 2020 theme: Game On, Cancer! The Cure Starts Here. All donations made throughout the event benefit the American Cancer Society's research, education, and service programs both in and out of Second Life.

The Official National Football League Alumni (NFLA) organization is holding a weekend-long virtual concert in Second Life!

Summer Sailstice is the annual celebration of sailing that happens every year on the Saturday closest to the summer solstice; this is their 20th year! Summer Sailstice in SL is officially registered as a Summer Sailstice Event. Alpha Tribe

A region of several sky levels as well as a ground level. The ground level has different areas such as an amusement park, a gym, an alchemist's work area, and a crazy cat lady parlor. So, it is a place where avatars can relax and play. The 3 sky levels are region wide architectures that are also artistic installations which will hopefully provide good backgrounds for the photographic work of visitors.

Sommergewitter is a German-language region that's been open since March 2015. It features a summer thunderstorm, as well as endless photographic opportunities.

SL SciFi Con 2020

Going on its twelfth year, the SL Scifi Con is the largest gathering of science fiction fans, roleplayers, creators, merchants, and entertainers in Second Life! The Con covers scifi and all its sub-genres like horror, steampunk, post-apocalypse, cyberpunk, superheroes, and even a little fantasy thrown in for good measure. The Con supports the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life of Second Life’s quest to achieve a world without cancer and will run from May 15th to the 24th. Bay City's 12th Anniversary

Bay City, the first mainland commmunity created by the Linden Department of Public Works, will be celebrating its 12th anniversary this Sunday, with a parade down Route 66 and a four-hour-long concert featuring GoSpeed of Kona Stream, Parker Static, Wolfie Starfire, and Quartz! Visit the Bay City Fairgrounds this Sunday, May 17th from 12:30pm to 4:30pm PT/SLT for the fun!
