  1. I haven't been buying much in the way of tattoos or skin effects because they just won't work with our current onion layer system. So for me, I know once BoM is here I'm going to be shopping a lot for those kinds of things. And I'll be just straight up honest, if creators decide to charge for BoM enabled heads, like many did with Bento, I'm going to be one of those who will gladly lay my lindens down to get one. Also, I have no problem buying system layers for the skin appliers I already have. I don't expect creators to go through all that trouble to make system layers and not get paid for their work.
  2. That you even question this shows that you have a failure to see beyond your own bias. I am very excited for BoM. Does that mean I am excited to be able to use it to wear age old system clothing? No! But I am excited to use tattoos and skin add-ons, like freckles, wrinkles, etc. All of which are impossible to use now with alpha glitches so prevalent. So please get a grip and stop being so narrow minded. I think you use more system clothing than I do. Look at how you complain that you won't be able to use materials with BoM for all your skin tight latex jumpsuits. Personally, that's not the look I like to wear so it won't affect me in the least. I wear mesh jeans, thank you! I own over 400 pairs of very high quality mesh shoes rigged for the Maitreya body. I know shopping patterns but everyone does eventually come to their limits. I've reached mine unless I see a pair that is really different from the ones I already own. Then I would be tempted to buy more shoes. I don't see that. Perhaps you need to think about what's happening today and stop accusing me and others of being backward thinking because we embrace BoM.
  3. I agree. This is a major change for some and not so much for others. A heads up would have been great and prudent in this situation.
  4. Rather than changing the system, which personally I am very happy to see implemented and have wanted it for a very long time, I think merchants need to rethink their method for updating their products. I think if a merchant is updating a product to the point that it's changed so significantly as to warrant charging for the update, then that product should be renamed and a new listing created. The old listing then would be retired permanently but those who bought the old version should be able to have that version redelivered. The same holds true for changing perms on a product. If you're going to sell copy and a trans only version, then make two listings with that indicated in the naming of the product. The copy version would be able to have redelivery while the trans only would not. I think having the merchant be able to set the option on or off for redelivery is going to cause confusion for the buyers. There should be a standard that customers can depend on.
  5. IMO, Theresa hit the nail on the head. How many pairs of jeans does one person need? How many mesh heads? Shoes? ETC! I think animesh and bakes on mesh will spur a new reason to go shopping. So we'll see. I haven't seen any of these performance issues you mention. I'm not saying that you aren't having issues but what I am saying is that it's not the case for everyone, and I don't think it's changed. If you are having issues then you most likely have had the same issues since you purchased your current machine or acquired your internet connection. And as for the packaging annoyances you refer to I personally consider those to be improvements. I simply love not having to rez a box to unpack it and better yet, if it automatically unpacks so I don't have to click anything even better. I suppose if you want to find something to be negative about it's easy to do, but I prefer to look for the good rather than just complain about the little things.
  6. Since the adoption of mesh (well the new SL mesh, since everything has always been mesh) there's been a substantial move toward more realistic sizing of avatars, buildings and furniture. I for one am very happy that people are changing. I haven't used the default camera position for years and years. I fixed that problem even before mesh was an issue. I never liked feeling as though no matter how high a ceiling was I always felt like I was going to hit my head. Fortunately, I read an article explaining the issue and how to fix it with the debug settings. That one improvement made my SL so much more enjoyable. I really have to chuckle when I see super tall avatars these days. It's typically someone who just can't drag themselves into the present but tend to live in their memories of the "good old days". Now if I offended you with that remark, I'm sorry, but maybe it's time to reconsider why you really want to be a giant.
  7. I've been working on my Christmas home this week. I'm taking a break warming up by the fireplace. I really think this is my favorite time in SL. But come the day after Christmas I'll be ready for bikini weather.
  8. Nautlius City is in the middle of Blake Sea. All the parcels in Nautilus City are double prim. So looking for a few parcels that actually touch the water would be the only ones that meet your criteria. Warning prices are usually quite high.
  9. I don't like trying a demo in a store. I want to be able to fiddle with my shape and walk around awhile seeing if I like the animations. I was seriously considering buying a genus head but having to demo in the store is a no go for me.
  10. I use that filter rather infrequently, but in all the times I've used it I can't remember it EVER working correctly. But it's not such a big deal to me so haven't ever reported it.
  11. Sometimes I'm tempted to use the laugh to show that I don't agree or I think the comment is ludicrous, but that also gives the person a point and doesn't really convey what I would really like to say. Plus I just think it's rude to laugh at someone with whom you disagree. Over in the Sansar forums you can vote up or down a comment. I kind of like that idea. Maybe. Sorta.
  12. Definitely 3. Once we get BoM you should have no trouble layering a brow on your BoM enabled head. So the sky's the limit on brow possibilities.
  13. That would be a shame. There's been some very thoughtful remembrances of what war is really like in the pages of this thread. To stay on topic and let the thread run it's course naturally would in and of itself show honor to those who fought.
  14. Your reply could simply be, "off-topic." But that's not what you are doing. You are compounding the problem by escalating the issue.
  15. All I gotta say is .. this morning has led me to drink! I wish people would read grid status when something seems out of the norm. Sure would make life easier.
  16. Well damn! I'm so glad you corrected me. Seriously glad. One of my pet peeves is titles that make no sense. So seriously, thank you!
  17. I'd really love an "asshat" emoji for responses.
  18. Reading the OPs comments carefully, it doesn't seem that she's saying the hair disappears at all, but that her clothing under the hair is disappearing just as Ayela demonstrated in her pics.
  19. One thing to keep in mind is that appliers have evolved over time. It's possible that you've purchased an applier that was made years ago and will consequently not work the same as the newer versions. Reaching out to the creator should ALWAYS be the first step in getting customer satisfaction. If you don't hear back from the creator then by all means write that review and include the fact that you didn't have any success when you reached out to the creator.
  20. The following is a portion of a notecard we pass out in the Maitreya Lara Friends group: There are very few things that can actually go wrong with the Lara HUD. In most cases, it's not actually the HUD at all. Here are a few simple steps you can use: First, go to Avatar > Avatar Health > Refresh Attachments. This is designed to get the server and viewer back in sync regarding what you are wearing. Didn't help? Read on... 1. Does the HUD open and change tabs? If "Yes" the HUD is not the problem. Skip to 5 *** If you know you have clicked Delete Scripts/Kill Scripts in Skins & Options, Skip to 7 If "No"... 2. Check to be sure you are in a parcel that allows scripts. Try another region if you are unsure. (Maitreya Isle is a good place to test) 3. Detach your other HUDs to see if one of them was overlapping the HUD and not allowing you to click on it. We see HUDs as being flat on the side facing us. They're not. They have depth, and sometimes they can end up behind an invisible part of another HUD. The other HUD might not be close to the Lara HUD. Check them all. 4. Try to detach your Lara HUD. If it will not come off, it's not really there. This can happen when you Teleport if you have more than one thing attached to the same spot. The Lara HUD defaults to Bottom Left. If you have other HUDs attached there too, and there was a bit of lag between SL servers when you TP'd you can end up with your HUD showing for you, but the server thinks it's gone. Since scripts run on the server, not in your HUD, if the server thinks it's gone, nothing happens when you click. *** If you for any reason move your HUD to another HUD attachment point, never attach it to Center2 if you use Firestorm. The LSL bridge lives there. If your HUD was able to open and change tabs, it's time to look at the body. 5. Make sure you're actually wearing the mesh body. (This happens. Seriously). Put on the Alpha layer that came with the body. If you disappear, you were not wearing the mesh body. 6. Your body might not actually be there, even though you see it. This can happen when you Teleport if you have more than one thing attached to the same spot. The Lara body defaults to Avatar Center. If you have other items worn on that spot, and there was a bit of lag between SL servers when you TP'd you can end up with your Body showing for you, but the server thinks it's gone. If this has happened, you will not be able to remove the body and others will not see it. This is actually a very old SL problem. *** If you have something that must be on Avatar Center (like a pet) move the body to an unused spot. The pet will not work anywhere else. Shoulders and hips are not used that often and are good candidates. Do NOT attach the body to a HUD attachment point. It will look normal to you, but nobody else will be able to see it. 7. If your body is really there, and you are in a place that allows scripts, there is really only one thing left. Right click your body, and choose Script Info. You should see something like this in Nearby Chat: [Script info: 'Body10': [4/4] running scripts, 256 KB allowed memory size limit, 0.894543 ms of CPU time consumed.] If yours says [Script info: 'Body10': [0/0] running scripts you have found the problem. Your body is 'descripted'. The cure is to redeliver and replace your Body, Hands, and Feet. *** The only way this can happen is if you click the button in Skins & Options marked Delete Scripts. On earlier versions, this was Kill Scripts. Once you click that you are presented with a dialog asking if you are sure. If you accept the action, the scripts are deleted. You can't put them back. There is simply no way to do that. This was written by Gryphon Ronas, Maitreya CSR. I strongly recommend joining the Maitreya Lara Friends group if you use a Maitreya body. The group is very helpful in all things Maitreya.
  21. I strongly recommend Skinnery for their body appliers. They have three different fitness levels and each comes with many options. They have a ton of head appliers for Lelutka as well.
  22. I often change parts of hair from alpha blending to alpha masking. I do NOT do it as a whole, however, as that does tend to make the hair less attractive. Instead, using select face, I will only do the hair strands that cause the most problems. So those that nearly always cause parts of my hairline on my baby hairs hairbase to disappear and those strands that hang down and cause issues with clothing that has transparency. This is also the main reason I almost never buy hair that doesn't have modify perms. BoM will be a great help for things like hairbases and eyelashes, but it won't help with our fitted mesh clothing. So learning how to turn on alpha masking for offending hair strands is still something we're going to need to do.
  23. This guy I know kept derendering my clothes and then laughing about it, so I made some cute little applier undies with messages for him about his being an asshat. So either wear applier undies or alpha out sections as Callum mentioned. But I'm so used to seeing naked mesh when I arrive at an event that I don't even think twice about it. Even in those G rated areas who cares anymore? We basically know that if we're wearing mesh we're going to be naked to someone for some amount of time.
