  1. Let's take a moment to look at another example. Take World of Warcraft, it's common knowledge that gold farmers are alive and well making real life money selling their gold. Of course this practice is not sanctioned by Blizzard, but that doesn't stop the huge market for gold. So here we see that gold has a value in real money. Does that mean that those who play WoW and earn gold now have to consider the gold they earn as RL income? The thought seems ludicrous, and it is!
  2. Linden Lab has good motivation to fight that classification. Who in their right mind is going to want to participate in a virtual world where you have to file tax returns on the game money you earn and spend within that virtual world? By your definition even those who NEVER cash out one dollar would have to file a tax return based on that game income.
  3. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economy_of_Second_Life The virtual world Second Life has its own economy and a virtual token referred to as Linden Dollars (L$). In the SL economy, users (called "residents") buy from and sell to one another directly, using the Linden, which is a closed-loop virtual token for use only within the Second Life platform. Linden Dollars have no monetary value and are not redeemable for monetary value from Linden Lab. The wiki this is quoted from was last updated on 30 November 2018, at 19:00 (UTC). So it is up to date. I see no evidence that Linden Lab classified it as a virtual currency. I see no evidence that US treasury classify it as a virtual currency. Just because your CPA interprets it to be doesn't make it so. We've seen accounts posted in these pages where CPAs don't agree. So until someone with more expertise posts something here that is verifiable then I will continue to question the value of a game token. The question is not in regards to what is it after being cashed out but while it still exists in SL as a game token.
  4. Comparing L$ to Bitcoin, which absolutely is a virtual currency, to me shows a clear difference. Bitcoin is not controlled by one company. Bitcoin is accepted as currency for goods and services, granted it's limited in who will accept it, but it is accepted globally. The value of L$ is controlled by Linden Lab. L$ are not accepted for goods and services outside of Second Life. I think we're in one of those developing situations where no one is quite sure what it is or how to classify it. But if it's not technically a virtual currency yet, you can be sure that it will be soon enough. The IRS will be sure to make it happen.
  5. Seems an easy solution is to say, "Sure, I'll send a redelivery just as soon as your provide the transaction detail. If the banner you're seeing is legit then you will have a record of the transaction in your Linden Dollar Transaction History." As soon as they can't provide the transaction detail then it's easy enough to say, "Then you have not paid for the product so a redelivery is not possible for the item." You can further explain that there is a JIRA about the glitch on the MP.
  6. LL only reports on lindens you sell for US$. It's been suggested that you must report lindens spent as lindens within Second Life, but I'm not following that advice. Until I convert those lindens into US dollars they are game tokens in my book. I don't make enough for it to really be an issue anyway. Another good reason to just be a lazy creator who only puts in time doing what she enjoys and not because I want to make money.
  7. I am a merchant in SL, granted my business is small but I do have merchant experience. Back in the day when traffic actually mattered I went through the trouble of creating avenues to increase my traffic and in that time it made a difference. But honestly, since the growth of the Marketplace traffic is moot. I get traffic to my store from my MP listings not because people are using search to find me. I get traffic to my store because my customers tell their friends about my products, again not because of anyone finding me in search. To be honest, I think search is rather useless when it comes to marketing your business in SL now. I don't care if a competitor has 100 alts camping in a little room above their store. It's not going to help their business, IMO.
  8. I couldn't disagree more, but then we hardly ever agree on anything. Personally, I believe the mods have a difficult job, and in spite of that they do a terrific job of moderating these forums. They show restraint and often give us more latitude than we deserve trying to let us have the freedom to express our opinions and thoughts. The forums are a relatively safe place for us because of the Mods. I commend them.
  9. All those layers will get baked into one texture, thus reducing lag and complexity.
  10. The only place I use wear anymore is when using a shoe base as wearing two or more of those can create issues if they are differing heel heights. Otherwise, I use ADD for everything. And I too, will unattach and reattach items that use the right hand attachment spot, because that's a huge issue for having items drop off during teleport.
  11. You have no idea how we leap for joy when "Add" was added. Add is my best friend. I WUV it!!!!!
  12. Honestly, I said it tongue in cheek. I'd rather people just discipline themselves and not insert the topic into posts. But that's certainly not been the case.
  13. One of the initial outfits, or starter avatars, is called Kimberly. Is that what you mean when you say you chose Kimberly?
  14. As long as this post is about discussing the addition of another sub forum, how about adding one entitled Religion and Politics. If that would keep people from inserting their particular take on religion and political philosophy into post having nothing to do with either, I'd be happy.
  15. Found this great hair and super earrings at C88 this morning. They're perfect for my elf ears!
  16. Forgive me if I am in error; I am not a techie by any means. But, I always though the problem with SL isn't the code but constantly having to be sure they don't break content. Backward compatibility is what makes advancing SL so dang difficult. Isn't it?
  17. wallpaper ceiling makes me want to get my ceiling wallpapered if I could get him
  18. I'm really hoping that creators will do a plain BoM body with no onion layers, and provide a separate onion layer for applier clothing that can be attached when needed. As one who much prefers applier stockings to mesh stockings, I really want that separate layer so the toe area of my stockings and socks fit properly. There's no way I want to have my socks wrap around my toes as though it's my skin rather than a sock. I also use tank tops under many of my mesh shirts that have too low a v-cut and prefer that the fabric of the tank not mold to the skin between the breasts so again, I need an onion layer to accomplish my desired look. I am really excited and looking forward to BoM, though I have to admit that many in my circle of friends have grave misgivings about how well the feature is going to be accepted, especially with the problem related to using their thousands of appliers that simply will not work with BoM.
  19. from the wiki http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/About_Land Mature Content - One of the region maturity ratings is "Mature", but parcels are not required to have mature content on Mature rated land. This item is intended to indicate that there is mature content on the parcel. Here's mine: I don't have the moderate content checked because even though my parcel is rated moderate, I don't have anything in my parcel contents that would indicate it's anything but general.
  20. Considering how many layers one can use with BoM, I don't foresee it really being an issue to combine standard alphas to get the desired result when wearing a piece of mesh clothing that doesn't have a provided alpha for the item. I remember back with standardized sizes, before mesh bodies, that you could buy sets of prepackaged alphas to use with your system body. Those are a viable choice once again with BoM. For those with even the smallest amount of experience with Gimp or Photoshop, creating a custom alpha is a fast and easy process. Like my momma always said, "Where there's a will, there's a way."
  21. What you're describing sounds nothing like SL. Might as well call it something totally different. It doesn't sound like an SL2 to me.
