  1. SL viewers work fine in Win8 once you install video drivers from the maker of your graphics/video card, i.e. NVidia or AMD.
  2. That's excellent speed, now test ping time to/from those servers; http://www.pingtest.net. A high ping time will cause much havoc with your SL.
  3. Server Side Baking is a done deal. There's no need to discuss it, it's going to happen ... soon. Everything else is just drama-mongering. Nothing to see here, move along!
  4. I'm running a GTX560 Ti and the 310.90 driver with no errors or faults.
  5. Maestro ... good luck with the first roll of 2013! And "YAY" for performance improvements!
  6. There are outside forces that make an ARM viewer problematic beyond the computing power and graphics discussion. SL isn't a game that resides on the device and gets minimal downloaded data updates, it has to be constantly streamed both up and down (and upload speeds for the vast majority of broadband users are horrendously slow). How would SL address data caps that would be blown away by a game like SL? Even the cable broadband internet providers are instituting data caps on their services so WiFi isn't above the fray either. Building a viewer for ARM might get devices the ability, but how many people will be willing to pay for the increased data cap to play?
  7. Be careful ... going the way of the oldbies has been clinically proven to cause people to buy Joan Rivers jewelry from infomercials, buy the Sham-wow, and randomly shout, "get the hell off my lawn, you young whipper snapper!" :matte-motes-bashful:
  8. I think it would help if people turned down the rhetoric a notch or two because SL is running far better than it did at any time in it's past (I've been in SL daily since 2007) and I expect it will continue to improve as time passes. Sure, we'll have glitches as new features and options are introduced. Changing the SL server code (or viewer code for that matter) isn't like editing a word document ... it's incredibly complex and intertwined with a lot of unexpected results from seemingly minor code changes. I live on the mainland. We have a club on the mainland occupying 1/2 of a main-channel server region that routinely has more than 30 guests during events and we frequently bump up against the 40 avatar limit. I also have land in a Magnum region of the mainland. We've had no difficulties other than the expected lag when LL doesn't restart regions weekly (and then we have Live Chat restart the region for us). We're not special, we just haven't seen the issues that are recently described here.
  9. Actually getting busy and having lower prioity project work delayed because the boss wants XYZ first is pretty common across all businesses, not just Linden Lab.
  10. You might want to ask this question in the Phoenix/Firestorm Viewer Support group in SL. They are very helpful and knowledgeable and frequently help people resolve their issues with that viewer.
  11. Nice rant, but there's nothing on the grid status page to account for losing "no copy" items you rez ... there is only a problem with search; nothing about region restarts or asset server issues.
  12. You need to go to live chat and report the region down AND file a support ticket. Mentioning it in here isn't likely to get anything done, especially on a weekend.
  13. Hahaha but conversely how many conceptions occur as a fesult of avatars doing the horizontal bop?
  14. Actually the elephant in the room is a combination of a) computers that are barely adequate for Second Life, b) good computers with poor setups for Second Life, and c) poor network connections either on the resident's end, LL's end or somewhere in between. Blaming recent additions to SL like mesh has always been fashionable ever since people claimed changing from texture hair to flexi hair and system skirts to flexi skirts was going to ruin SL for everyone.
  15. 1. If I get logged out and try to log back in before the region logs me out, trying to log in gets me logged off by the region immediately. I can then retry the login and get back in. 2. It used to be that people would get ghosted for days on end and couldn't log back in. I haven't hear dof that happening recently. 3. Lydia seems to have an unending list of troubles with her SL and rarely responds to help attempts.
  16. Some of the disparity between sims with 70 avatars running fine and another sim with 40 avatars experiencing network issues could be related to how busy the other regions sharing the server are. When I check Tyche's Grid Survey I see anywhere from 4 to 7 other regions sharing a server. If a region is unlucky enough to restart onto a server with a couple of busy locations in SL I could see how the server could be stressed and experience issues. A region with 70 avatars sharing a server with only 4 other regions which are mostly vacant during events would probably seem to run very smoothly while a region with 40 avatars at an event sharing a server with 7 other regions four of which also have 30-40 avatars at an event would probably have a less satisfactory experience. There are many variables involved in the performance of SL for a given region.
  17. I downloaded the project viewer and used it. It's very similar to the old Phoenix viewer chat console with a couple of additional options for adding people to a chat or voice convo on the fly. It does take up a lot of screen space but I know people who avoid the LL viewer just to get their communications condensed. It'd be a good idea as long as it gives the opportunity to switch back to the current LL chat setup, which it doesn't.

  19. That mobo has onboard nic, try using it rather than the ePCI nic card and see if that helps. Also, have you cycled your modem and router? Are you sure you don't need FastLan for your nic card? Maybe read the documentation that came with the nic and mobo.
  20. Looks good Oskar! Much smoother than last week ;-)
  21. Everytime someone moves an item, deletes an item or rezzes an item that impacts the navmesh on the parcel you'll get a "region rebake" button appearing. It goes away on its own after a minute or two if you don't do anything. If you happen to click on it to rebake the region you won't notice anything has happened since it's the navmesh that is updated.
  22. This work-around probably won't be needed for long ... the Development Viewer has this setting already checked.
  23. Hang in there Oskar ... the day is almost over. Some work days are just not a lot of fun. I think that's why they call it work; a 4-letter word by the way ;-)
  24. If you think there is a server glitch file a support ticket. Otherwise this is just venting and arguing and not really productive.
  25. There is a reason mainland regions are limited to 40 avatars; not 40 on a parcel, 40 total across a region. There's nothing "enhanced" about the setup of a private region ... it's running the same software, on the same hardware, and sharing server resources with as many other regions, as any mainland region. Private region owners "can" choose to set the avatar limit on their region as high as 100, I believe, but that doesn't mean the region will run well if that many are present. So pretty much anything over 40 avatars present starts to make lag almost an expected experience. A region supporting 65 avatars would be running at more than 160% of design limits for a well managed region. I don't understand why anyone would be surprised when the conditions you describe cause a poor experience. FYI a mainland region restart can be requested in live chat, but you have to get the avatar count on the region below 10 before they'll do it.
