  1. Turn threaded optimization off and switch from sireless to an ethernet cable. These two changes will improve your SL experience.
  2. Do you have threaded optimization turned off in the NVidia control panel?
  3. Unscheduled Inventory MaintenancePosted by Status Desk on April 20th, 2013 at 09:37 am PDT[Posted 9:38am PDT, 20 April 2013] We are currently performing unscheduled server maintenance. During this time, some residents may experience issues rezzing, derezzing, changing clothing, or loading inventory. This maintenance may also disrupt transactions and logins. Please refrain from transacting with L$ or rezzing valuable (no-copy) items until this issue is resolved. Monitor this blog for additional updates.
  4. If you're looking for assistance in solving your problems you'll need to provide information about the computer hardware you have, if you're on wifi or ethernet connection, and the viewer you use to connect to SL. There isn't much anyone can do to help without that information.
  5. Sorry, you don't get it. Traffic in SL now is terrible, about 1/3 what it was 3 years ago, and half what it was even a year ago. Stores and sims are closing all over the place. This is about LL killing SL by moving beyond the pocketbooks of the public. You may be able to afford to keep up, but look at your friends list, or the traffic to your stores or sims. Look at the number of abandoned parcels. Ask any estate agent renting parcels! Actually I do get your point, but I reject it as hyperbole and drama mongering. It is not possible for SL to remain stuck in 2003 because some people don't want to learn new viewers and technology. I do NOT believe people cannot afford to upgrade their computers. I believe that is a favorite excuse of people who don't want to learn how to use new SL features and viewers. 3 years ago traffic in SL was topping out at 80,000 at my busy times and now it's routinely 60,000 at those same times. That's 3/4 not 1/3. That's pretty good considering the economy we've all been living in since 2008. SL is NOT being killed. It's fine. It does suffer from having a bunch of drama llamas whining and crying in the blogs and forums because SL is changing. See ... I DO get it.
  6. This is not about people with new laptops, this is about SL used to work fine, but now it doesn’t. No, it's about people making the choice to not upgrade their computers to be able to continue to play in SL. SL works fine today, people's old hardware doesn't. In fact SL works incredibly better than it did when I first rezzed in 2007. I'm not rich, I don't make anywhere close to a 6 figure income, but I prioritize my income and expenses so I can continue to upgrade my computer and enjoy the hobby I choose. I suggest other people do the same.
  7. Solution ... go to Live Chat and ask them to restart the laggy region.
  8. Bad advice ... you need to play with the CHUI options and learn how to modify CHUI to make it more usable and continue with auto updates because when Server Side Baking goes live using old viewers without CHIU will not be an option.
  9. I too experience prims that are invisible until I click on them, and clearing cache does reduce the incidence temporarily. In fact clearing cache from time to time is a good thing, just like restarting a computer periodically is a good thing; the reasons for this are too numerous to state here. I seriously doubt clearing cache will resolve the invisible prim issue, but clearing cache from time to time is still a good thing. And there's no reason to "call a halt" to anything. Move on and improve, don't regress and stagnate. The current state of SL is better than it's ever been (at least since 2007) and it'll only get better as features and improvements roll out!

  11. Try this: http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/catalystlegacywin8.aspx
  12. You want LL to burn your tier money boozing it up at SXSW instead of working on SL? I'd prefer they stay in SF and get things done.
  13. The busy CPU sounds like you have an NVidia graphics card with threaded optimization turned on. Go to the NVidia control panel and turn off threaded optimization.
  14. I think LL's only responsibility is to make sure the changes they make work on THEIR viewer. It's the responsibility of the TPV devs to make sure their viewers work well with any updates or changes made by LL. LL invests time in keeping the TPV's in the loop for coming changes and that pretty much ends LL's responsibility.
  15. Qie Niangao wrote ... business just doesn't care about desktops any more ... In academia (where I work) the desktop (Mac or PC) is the workhorse. I can't run my statistics on a tablet. I can't analyze complex research scenarios and protocols on a phone or tablet. I can't comfortably type a peer-reviewed paper or journal article on a phone or tablet (functional word is "comfortably"). Sure I can buy add-on's that turn the tablet into an under-powered laptop ... but that ends up being more expensive than a decent laptop. What can I do on a phone or tablet? I can surf the web, check email, check my appointment schedule, play Angry Birds, listen to music, and watch movies. All of that is handy, but not REAL work.
  16. You can separate the local chat from the CHUI console and set it where a chat bar would normally be, but you can't make it a single line chat entry window (it's locked in multiple line mode) and it still has a little icon the the CHUI that lights up and flashes with each thing said in local chat. And every time you log in you have to reset it because it doesn't save the settings or position you set.
  17. It's not new, it's an old idea (chat console) with some new tweaks. I tried it while it was in the earlier stages of development. When it hit the Development Viewer build I watched the Torley video. I used it for 3 days. It's bad. VERY bad. It's large. VERY large. It's worst in busy social situations. And forget about new residents figuring it out because it's not even remotely intuitive. And cramming all the communications into one console will make wrong window posts way more likely ... albeit hilarious! Like I said earlier ... it makes one wonder what other regressions LL has in mind. It's been ages since we've had our hair and shoes jammed up our arses every time we TP, why not bring THAT back, too? We'll all eventually learn to deal with it or opt for a TPV doesn't use it. But it makes one wonder about the decision making process at LL and who has their ear for development ideas.
  18. After struggling with CHUI for 2 days ... I've had enough. I'll just use whichever TPV does NOT adopt the CHUI. It's just too interusive and covers too much screen. In 2 days I've wrong window posted several times and I haven't done that in a couple years. Sorry LL, CHUI is a messy fail for me.
  19. I have to agree with Israel. I don't see how a regression resulting in covering up the world for the sake of consolidating all communication into one box is an improvement. I'm sure the oldbies will jump for joy (no they won't they're never happy) but this is a step back from what had been an advanced system for communicating. Especially since you still haven't fixed group chat (fails miserably more often than not) or done anything about chat lag. This begs the question ... what other 2007 antiquated feature will LL roll out next? And trust me ... this setup will result in lots of wrong window messages and drama will ensue.
  20. The GTX 560 Ti is a little less expensive option and good performance. Runs shadows well.
  21. The three things you can do that will have the greatest impact on your SL experience are: 1. Shut down other programs on your computer that run in the background and use a little CPU and RAM, freeing up your system to concentrate resources on SL. 2. Reduce your draw distance. If you're in a club or shop that's 60m wide and your draw distance is set to 256m you are forcing your system to render things you can't see without camming out to them. Also, keep in mind that regions are only 512m wide so a draw distance of 256m can force your system to render objects you can't see in multiple regions. 3. If you are connecting to the internet by wifi, switch to a hardwire connection. In general SL does not like wifi. The speed of your internet has little effect beyond a certain MB/sec rate because the SL servers have limits to how fast they send your computer updates. Good luck!
  22. Six (6) posters on this thread ... I chatted with Live Chat Support and LL is aware if it and is working on it. Given the level of interest in this thread's topic it seems to be getting as much attention as it is going to get.
  23. It was "stale search results" that were reported as fixed on February 6 ... not traffic. That said, traffic as a metric is highly over-rated; very few residents even know it exists and fewer care what the traffic on any given parcel is. Most residents go to clusters of green dots on the map when exploring. It would be nice to have it working, but it's not a critical metric like it used to be.
  24. I checked with Live Chat support and it's a known bug.
