  1. The OP had a relatively low ping and is getting 45fps (the max) from the sim. But their viewer is making less than 1fps. The root cause of the lag is a bit obvious.
  2. Since lag is mostly on the viewer end, not the server end, there isn't much LL can do about what is being described. Second Life is both cpu and graphics card intensive and the experience anyone gets in SL is directly affected by how good their computer is, which is not really something LL can do anything about.
  3. From Oskar linden: 09-18-2012 02:04 PM We're almost done with the rolling restart this morning. In another hours or so everything should be settled. The issues seen this morning were transient. __Oskar
  4. I have the same AMD 6-core CPU on a Gigabyte mobo with 8GB RAM @ 1600 ... I have an EVGA GTX560 Ti (make sure you get the 256 memory bandwidth not the 128) and it works great in SL. I'd like to upgrade to a 660 soon. My grudge against ATI/AMD cards is they frequently have issues with OpenGL which is what drives SL.
  5. Hi Oskar ... the region Quordlepleen was restarted twice today. The second restart happened about 15 - 20 minutes after the first (2 sets of 5 minute countdowns so it wasn't a simple crash). The first restart held the region offline for less than 5 minutes, the second had it down about 30 minutes. Dunno what that was about.
  6. I think the Jira had become a bully's playground with more opinion, ranting and flaming than bug reporting or relevant information posting. It had degraded to the point where it failed to serve its originally intended purpose. No where in the blog posting does it say anything about shutting down server development ... that's just an example of the type of inflamed rhetoric that resulted in the change.
  7. Keep plugging away at it Oskar! Fix it as soon as you safely can. Changing the process at this point would seem to likely add even more time to the fix so it's probably best to stay the course. And thank you for working on your holiday!
  8. FPS is variable and depends on a lot of things; your CPU, your video card, your bandwidth, the settings in your viewer, and what is going on around you. I have an AMD FX-6100 cpu, a GTX560 Ti video card, and cable modem with 12/2 down/upload internet. With my viewer set on high and draw distance set to 152m I get 20-25fps in a busy club or when I'm out shopping in busy stores ... and 70+ fps in quiet regions alone with nothing moving/going on. If I turn on shadows I get 12-15 fps in busy scenes and 30-35 fps in quiet scenes with lots of things to cast shadows.
  9. I've been in SL a lot longer than you and I've been paying tier 7 years. LL doesn't treat me like c**p. Of course I don't rant endlessly using profane language either. And yes LL has terms of service, you agreed to them, those are the ground rules for using their service, and if you find them burdensome and too restrictive you don't have to use the service. That's the choice you, as a consumer, have. Find another hobby if this one is so upsetting and unenjoyable. Learning the rules and playing within them doesn't make anyone a sheep, it makes them a mature adult.
  10. I've been in SL since 2007 and I can assure you LL will not compensate anyone for anything unless the ToS says they will. And flaming the forums and acting like an internet bully like you do won't help.
  11. 1. Prospective upgrades and new features are in beta ON the beta grid. Imagine that. 2. Upcoming LL Viewer changes are available to try out; they're called Development Viewers and anyone can try them. LL also has beta viewers and project viewers anyone can try out. 3. The SL grid will always be in beta because there's no such thing as an "off the shelf" virtual world that works for every computer, on every connection, regardless of the hardware being used. 3. You're running Windows XP, a Pentium 4 cpu, and a video card just as old. Your platform has been phased out of support by the manufacturers of the equipment? My hardware is much newer but I'm not "wealthy" or even well off. I "do" scratch and save a little here and there so I can upgrade my system a bit at a time so I can continue to enjoy my hobby (SL). I assume the same is done by people whose hobby is radio controlled cars or planes, stamp collecting, comic book reading/collecting, playing video games and etc. 4. You want to be paid to test things LL is planning to bring to the grid? Really? Seriously? Thank you for the chuckle and please let me know when Microsoft, Intel, AMD, or NVidia pay you to beta test their new products and projects so I can sign up too. Wow ... just wow.
  12. You all are becoming as predictable with your demanding posts as "a certain someone" is with her imminent demise posts. And even if LL gave you EVERY detail about what's going on there wouldn't be a thing you could do with the information except whine about disagreeing with them, which you already do.
  13. A lot of steam users don't know the first thing about the technologies involved in their games nor should they know or care; most just expect a game to run when they click play. And when a steam gamer loads the SL viewer it'll run on their machines. In fact most of the games on steam make no more use of multi-core CPUs than SL does; the OS has a lot to do with that but it'll "begin" to get better when Windows 8 goes on sale. It's also a mistake to make the argument that "most" gamers on steam have top end, state-of-the-art, very expensive computers when in fact "most" don't. The fact is most steam users are like the average resident in SL and don't have crossfire or SLI machines and are using computers in the mid-range of price and capabilities and/or older machines and play their games on lower graphics settings.
  14. Never argue with a fool. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
  15. Do you also blame your car manufacturer because you got a speeding ticket; after all the speedometer goes up to 190 kph so it's the manufacturer's fault if you do that and get a ticket, right? If you over-draw your checking account do you blame the retailer for selling you something and you wrote a check you didn't have the money to cover? People with bandwidth caps know full well they have a limitation and it's their responsibility to monitor their use and stay within their limit, not someone elses fault if they exceed it; not anyone elses. And thank you Ay for making it personal and insulting.
  16. It sounds like a "clean installation" is your next best option. Uninstall the viewer and delete the cache files and then reinstall the viewer. See if that fixes it.
  17. I said this in another thread on the same topic but it bears repeating. While it is unfortunate that this bandwidth issue had occurred, anyone with a bandwidth cap who isn't monitoring thier usage shares the blame for exceeding their cap; in fact they bear the lions share of the blame since LL has to way to know anyone's cap.
  18. Nothing personal, and yes having SL suddenly use more bandwidth than usual is not a good thing, but it's MY responsibility to monitor MY data useage. I do monitor my data useage across several devices and I don't whine at the provider of a game or app if I let it use up my data allowance. That's MY responsibility. Geting careless and blaming anyone else is immature.
  19. Yes, using hacks when building is common but risky.
  20. Ohhh nooooo Lydia says we're doomed !!!!! :matte-motes-big-grin-wink:
  21. Such is the hazard of exploiting hacks to accomplish something. The logical solution is to make the necessary changes to your creations and when someone contacts you with an issue to verify they actually own the older version and give them an updated version. The number of people still in SL using an old version is likely quite small compared to total sales.
  22. So, if you're not seeing 1440/24 hrs what number is it that you're seeing that has you concerned?
  23. And according to Tyche's grid survey the first Class 8 servers went live on the main grid in July.
