  5. Define "decent"? Windows 8 is not an issue for SL. I've been using Windows 8 since it was in beta and SL runs fine on it. My computer is an AMD FX-6100, 8GB RAM, a GTX550Ti 1GB video card and a 600W power supply. I run SL between high and ultra all the time with a 160m draw distance and I get 20-60 fps.
  6. Your region seems fine at the moment ... although the TP dropped me tight up against a wall between a china hutch and a plant lol
  7. You need a new hobby ... putting a stopwatch on weekly server rolls is boring :smileywink:
  8. I was getting this error message using CoolVL so I switched to Firestorm and got it again, but when I then switched to use the LL viewer the problem went away. It might be coincidence that the inventory issue resolved between closing Firestorm and opening LL's viewer, or it could be the TPV's have a different time-out setting waiting for a response from the asset servers. Database maintenance is a good thing. Anyone with db experience knows the larger and more complex a db is the more it requires maintenace. Given the number of people in SL constantly creating, deleting, modifying and swapping (buying and selling) items in SL it's a wonder there isn't more need for maintenance.
  9. One of the finest established and popular Jazz Club/Ballrooms with good traffic and a large, faithful and growing membership has a couple shops for rent. The Club/Ballroom offers well advertised and attended live events seven days/nights a week featuring the finest SL DJ's and Live singers. This is a truly sophisticated and glamorous venue for your business. $L350 weekly/30 prim. Contact Maebh Jewell or Cincia Singh if you have questions. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Quordlepleen/31/30/24
  10. You nailed it! :matte-motes-big-grin:
  11. There's plenty of land on the mainland that people can buy from LL for a pittance. Yes, people would have to be Premium members but that's how the game is played and has been played for years. The cost of mainland has actually dropped significantly in recent years. The alternative is renting from an estate/private region owner in which case people don't have to be Premium members but I find the markup for rent usually comes close to the same as the cost of Premium membership. People who complain that LL should lower prices so that people could have more without paying for it always tickle me ... welcome to RL and SL where you get what you pay for.
  12. Before recommending a viewer change it might be a good idea to ask what viewer and which version someone is using. I'm using the current LL viewer and Firestorm and neither suffers an fps drop when I open chat.

  15. There's nothing cruel about it. There are 2 levels of participation in SL: 1) free with limited support and benefits and, 2) premium membership with enhanced support and benefits.

On the other hand it could be that the people who work at LL have families to attend to at this time of year. Or, an example of how badly the user base misunderstands LL.

  20. Your configuration will run SL fairly well but it is definitely NOT current "state of the art" for a computer. You're obviously economizing so my suggestions are modest improvements, not top end (comparison prices found online from Tiger Direct or NewEgg): a. AMD FX-4120 ($100) - consider an FX-6350 ($140) six core or the FX-8320 ($150) eight core if you can afford it. this might change the Motherboard you need and cause more cost. b. 6GB DDR3 1333 RAM ($70) - consider upgrading to 8GB DDR3 1600 ($70) c. OS Windows 7 x64 - run some flavor of Linux like Baloo suggested only if you like fussing with it constantly; Linux isn't out of the box friendly to as many programs and pieces of hardware as Windows. Windows 7 is ok but I run Windows 8.1 with no problems and MS keeps improving it all the time with free updates; why pay for an older OS?. d. GeForce GTX 550Ti 1GB - the 550 Ti ($140) will work with SL but consider upgrading to a GTX 660 2GB ($200). e. Drop the dial-up modem unless you have a specific need. f. I would avoid connecting to SL by wifi. I run SL on an AMD FX-6100 six-core, 8GB DDR3 1600, a GTX 560Ti 2GB, on Windows 8.1 with no SSD and I get 20-40 fps in most clubs with all lighting turned on but no shadows. Shadows drops me to 10-15 fps in clubs which can be dodgy.
  21. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, Maestro. And to all the wonderful people at LL, thank you!
  22. There's no fix for some issues. There's also no fix that doesn't involve a certan level of technical expertise. And there's no fix for stupid lol.
  23. When it comes to taxes it's not LL's responsibility to inform the merchants that they might have income tax liability. Everyone knows they have income tax reporting responsibilities and should be reporting their qualifying income from their SL activities if they have any. So I see the drama surrounding this as more of a "sour grapes" whine by people who thought they'd found a convenient tax dodge and now are faced with the reality that they'll be required to pay. Everyone doing business in SL is an adult and is individually responsible for their own habits and the consequences of those habits (the taxes).
  24. It's nice to have you back, Lydia. Let me review your issues: Missing inventory - I haven't had this problem. Failed teleports even inside a sim - I haven't had this problem. Lag - SL serves only the finest, hand crafted, vintage lag lovingly aged in charred oak barrels in the caves and caverns deep inside the original LL mainland regions. Crashes - I haven't had any crashes. Slow or aborted log ins - I haven't had this problem. To try to resolve these issues you could: Make sure you're connected by ethernet cable rather than Wifi Check your ping Check your bandwidth Reboot your modem Cycle your router Confirm your computer meets the minimum specs to run SL If you desire further assistance please post your: Computer specs Internet connection type and speed The viewer and version you are using I look forward to your reply.
