  1. There is no reason applications should have <2gb limit on 64-bit. It's a limitation meant for 32-bit systems. It doesn't cause any issues as long as you have over 4gb of RAM (enough for SL + any background processes). I wouldn't have had to use this fix if LL would have fixed this themselves.. but they haven't... for months.
  2. I found a simple fix for the CONSTANT crashes I was getting with SLV3. The problem was that even though I'm on Windows 7 64-Bit with 6GB of installed RAM, SLV3 is limited to 2GB and the client would build up active memory used FAST and crash within 10-15 minutes. If you're experience constant crashes when SLV3 reaches anywhere from 1.2-2.0gb of memory usage try this fix. Download Explorer Editor: http://www.ntcore.com/exsuite.php 1. Open CFF Explorer and then open your SecondLife.exe file. 2. Go to the "File Header" section (under Nt Headers) and click the "Click here" on the Characteristics row. 3. Check the "App can handle >2gb addressest" box, then click OK 4. Go to "Save as", and then rename your existing SecondLife.exe (for backup - optional.. you can always just reinstall SL) 5. Save the current version as SecondLife.exe Note: If you get a windows notification when you try to save the edited SecondLife.exe saying you don't have permission, just save it to your desktop then drag it to your SecondLiveViewer folder. You'll have to repeat these steps every time there's a new Second Life release (replaces the edited .exe) Credit for this fix has to go to someone on the SCII forums of all places: http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/forum/topic/109981203

I can't see the exact problem, but it appears that it may have something to do with a bad texture on some wearable. You might try setting your graphics preferences low enough to allow yourself to get logged in, then change what you are wearing to some safe stock outfit from the Library to see if that makes it more stable. If so, try adding one item at a time from your previous outfit and run for a half hour or so with your normal graphics settings for each item. If you find the one that crashes you, please add a comment with the UUID of the item to this bug report: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-29518 Thanks for the replies everyone but I think Oz figured it out. I went into the developer menu-->avatar-->character tests-->test female which reset my entire avatar to default/library textures and for about 45 minutes now I haven't had a single crash. I'm going to slowly start adding some of the textures/skins/items I regularly wear and see what may be causing the crashes. I have a feeling it might be one of the alpha textures (I typically have a few alpha textures stacked/added on top of each other). I'll post on Jira when I have a better idea. Thanks :matte-motes-big-grin:

I tried beta drivers/alternatives and no luck. Anyone having this problem or know of any fixes? I can post crash logs if it will help.

  6. This crap should have never gone live. It still crashes as much as the development/mesh viewer. I'm switching to Firestorm.
  7. SLV2.7 crashes CONSTANTLY. You guys are LL are incompetent.
  8. "After 5 years I'm glad to finally be able to change my avatar's name without creating an alt and giving up on thousands of dollars worth of purchased content.." But you still can't. That is the feature people WANTED. What you GOT was DisplayNames which is not the same thing at all. Display Names != Avatar Name. You're right. I would have preferred the option to pay for a one-time name change. Something like games like World of Warcraft & Guild wars have been offering for years. The display name feature is just making things more convoluted than is necessary. I understand peoples' attachment to their names and how a person's SL name is tied to their reputation/whatever, but I when I first joined Second Life I didn't expect that I would stick around as long as I have, and I'm fairly sure the name choices were more limited than they are today. I would have liked the option to create my own surname instead of choose from a list. And as for my avatar's first name.. Crissy is(WAS) just my RL nickname - and Oh, it might have been cute when I was a teenager (I joined SL when I was 18), but now I'd prefer something slightly more mature sounding. Creating an alt is OUT OF THE QUESTION because I have likely thousands of dollars on items for this one. However, I would pay good money for a name change.

  10. There's nothing LL can do to make SL run on an ATI Radeon 9100. That's an old IGP. If you want to use graphic intensive applications like Second Life or 3D gaming you're going to need a more recent laptop with a dedicated GPU.
  11. I've been waiting for some of these improvements for 5 years. I'm skeptical about the technical improvements for lag/rezzing but atleast you're putting in an effort..
  12. I went back to 2.1 Sort the bugs out before you release the full client.
  13. What happened to anti-aliasing? SL looks like crap now.
