  1. Market Place deliveries are NOT effected by your on line status. You can buy some demos to check for your self.
  2. Now we know one of the reasons behind the new Mentors program. Someone is going to need to staff this or it will be soon taken over by trolls. P.s. I am looking forward to visiting. Martians absolutely love classic Motown. Gonna buy me a ticket for an aeroplane......
  3. We understand that LL is looking for volunteers. Some of us feel it should be a compensated position. That is part of the discussion here.
  4. It is just, how shall I say, "The nature of the beast," that pretty much all of us have at one time or another found ourselves helping some one else. Quite frankly with out user to user support Second Life would have imploded years ago. It would have collapsed under the weight of its learning curve. When I started I had other people help me and as I learned I shared with with others. And while I still help people I am not as proactive as I used to be. The mentors do have potential. But it needs to be thought through thoroughly. They need to be known as a trusted source of information and the information they have has to be correct. They need to be knowledgeable of the TOS and Community Standards also. I think it is a bit much for LL to just ask people to volunteer. There needs to be a benefit to them, some kind of compensation. Linden Lab needs to clean up the welcome centers. Mentors will need a designated Linden or Lindens who not only oversee the program but whom a mentor can call upon when they encounter a problem and not be dependent on abuse reporting and then having to wait for Governance to respond.
  5. It is hard pretending to be a human. Such a strange species.
  6. You would use "targeted behavior intended to disrupt" but as stated in https://lindenlab.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/31000153188-i-m-being-harassed-how-do-i-stop-it- "As with any harassment, if you fear this may have an impact on your real life, such as threats of personal harm or putting your actual safety at risk, we encourage you to also notify your local authorities so that they can assist you in taking the appropriate steps to ensure your real life safety." And while your local authorities will probably say there is nothing they can do insist on filing a report so that it is on record.
  7. Releases? We don't do "Releases." Our software escapes and leaves in its wake a trail of bloodied QA personnel and users.
  8. Wow! I never knew you could have so many Alts!
  9. The updated profile floater adapts to the picture size. And most of us "pop" the image out to view it. I certainly prefer the 4:3 ratio.
  10. To not release the dev kits to everyone would be the equivalent of saying, "We no longer believe in Your World, Your Imagination." One of the beauties to me about Second Life is that "all prims are created equal."
  11. This prompts a few thoughts. I recall when Ebbe became CEO. And we found him posting / interacting on another forum. Some of us said to him, "What are you doing over here? You do know that Second Life does have its own Forums?" And to his credit he did come over here to post. In all my years I have only had a few interactions with Lindens, all of them favorable except with one. And I am tickled pink that he is no longer employed by LL. (And no, I am not referring to Rodvik the Horrible who I understand has just launched a new virtual world). Another thing that may be of concern is that the Lindens will no longer be posting about Server updates in the forum. The concern here is that we may be finding out about some things after the fact. For more on this issue see Inara Pey's blog. I do get what Rolig said about them not wanting to become lightening rods. On the other hand it has been heartening to see some of them step in and clarify some issues that have come up in the Forums.
  12. One of the first things I learned when I started SL is that the one constant of Second Life is change.
  13. Oh the fun we could have with "Sausage" but I don't think it would survive moderation here.
  14. It is not just old groups of which I have a few. It is old friends also, some of whom have not logged in for over ten years but I still do not "unfriend" them. And once in a SL moon one of them returns.
  15. The dogs were to the best of my knowledge never dependent on a Web service. It is nice that 'copy' versions will be made available to owners so should a rezzed copy go bad or get lost you are not up a crick without a piddle.
  16. Received a note card today from VKC saying that they are closing shop in SL. Over the years many of us have enjoyed the companionship of VKC dogs and cats in SL. Among other things they were the first trainable pets in SL. The closing, according to the note card, will be in stages. (I am refraining from posting the entire note card's contents because I don't know if that would be ok here) At a certain point in time owners of VKC pets will be able to obtain copy versions of their pets. The final date for VKC exiting SL according to the note card will be in December 2024. Enrico has certainly contributed a lot to our enjoyment of Second Life. Wishing him all the best.
  17. I've been doing like that since the fees went up to $9.99. I just consider $14.99 outlandish. It also adds insult to injury to those who deal with VAT. But if they do something productive like investing that extra money in fixing the friends on line not showing problem I could be more accepting of the fee. Over six months and the problem is still not resolved.
  18. Up till now I have been paying my rent in $L's. My landlord does offer a paypal option. Looks like I am going to need to switch. This fee hike really (insert expletives here). They have us trapped in a closed system but really Linden lab, are you trying to squeeze water out of rocks. You will be earning less from me after I switch to paying my landlord via paypal.
  19. I feel like you do about MESH. It changed (I will add the additional word) social nature of Second Life. We enjoyed learning together and sharing our creations with each other among other things. I feel the same way about Linden Homes. Even though the original homes were/are shabby they drove out many of the smaller Land Lords. It's a difficult position to be in when your Supplier is also your Competitor. And now there is Belliseria. And it appears to be a successful venture. It has the one thing Mainland, with a few small exceptions never had: Zoning. With a little bit of zoning I believe Mainland would have been more successful. It should have had residential areas, business areas, entertainment zones, etc.
  20. Must depend on where you live. Where I am the School is top notch and there even is a waiting list to get in. And it has saved me a small fortune. Earth food is bad for Martian teeth.
  21. There are three things that you can do with your 1024 sqm allowance. 1. Get a Linden Home 2. Purchase a 1024 sqm plot on Mainland and pay no additional fees. 3. Donate the allowance to a group that has "Group Owned Land" Your 1024 sqm allowance has no effect on an Estate.
