  1. I don't know that I'd pick ice cream in a snowstorm, but on the other end of the temperature range, I'll still hava a hot coffee or hot latte even if it's 100 F outside (and I get irritated when I order a latte in the summer and the barrista asked "iced?" - if I had wanted an iced latte, I would have ordered it as an iced latte). As far as hot sauces and chiles, I try to stay as far away from them as possible.
  2. The knowledge base is available in a number of other languages, though the largest number of articles are in the English version. Knowledge Base - Second Life Community links to the page which has links for the other language offerings.
  3. I don't have a direct answer to your specific question, but when you do change your land to being group owned, be sure to turn off "auto return other residents' objects" initially. That will keep items from auto-returned. Then, look to see what the count is for parcel land impact for objects owned by others. If that count is 0, then you've got all the objects set correctly to the land group - otherwise, you still have some objects that you'll need to track down and change to the land group. Once you have everything set to the land group, then you can set the auto return setting back to the setting you prefer.
  4. That's an interesting thought, though hearing about the way so many shop at events (hovering and camming, wearing a full alpha, just showing friends, etc.,) I doubt that there would be many customers that would appreciate or like booths having salespeople that interacted with them. When I first joined SL, I thought the stores would have salespeople, but if anything, they just have a bot that welcomes you and perhaps answers standard questions, like how to join the store group.
  5. That's good to know. A road trip up through Oregon and Washington is definitely in our future plans. Now that my husband is retiring next month that may be a good trip to plan for next spring or summer.
  6. We have all the winter sports in California, also. From where I live I can head west and be at the ocean in 30 or 40 minutes, or if I head east in the winter I can be up in snow country in 3 or 4 hours. I have been known to plan a weekend trip to some town in the central valley or the Sierra Nevada foothills just because I know it's going to be hotter there than at our house. I don't know that I'd be expecting anything remarkable, but I enjoy seeing the different geographies, agriculture, industries, towns, and so forth, like when you do road trips on the minor highways or backroads. I expect that would hold true for cross-country train rides too.
  7. Cold could definitely be an issue. I'm not fond of cold and snow and ice. Vancouver's weather doesn't look too bad - not much colder on average than where we currently live, though it doesn't get near as hot - we'd have to vacation in California for hot summer trips I really would like to sometime take the train that goes all the way across Canada - that looks like it would be fun even if it's not a car road trip.
  8. I live in California, and even with the high cost of living in our area, fires, droughts, and so on, there really is not another State that we would want to move to. We've even modified some of our post-retirement road trip plans - there are parts of the United States that I'm not even sure I'd want to be a tourist and drive through anymore. If we did decide we wanted to move to a different county, it would probably be Canada, but we wouldn't want to move that far from our children and grandchildren.
  9. The premium plus 2048 sqm of free tier can currently be used in the following ways: - you can buy a 2048 sqm parcel on mainland (and abandon your 1024 Bellisseria house) - have/keep your 1024 Bellisseria house and purchase a 1024 sqm parcel on mainland - split it between a 512 sqm Bellisseria home and a 1536 sqm parcel on mainland It is expected that there will be 2048 sqm Bellisseria house parcels, but those are not available yet (and probably will not be available until at least the end of the year).
  10. Not all prepaid or gift cards work. From the billing knowledge base article: Issues with prepaid and gift cards A common cause of payment method failure is the use of unsupported card types. At this time, the majority of prepaid cards are not compatible with our system, even if they bear the VISA/AMEX/MasterCard logo. This may include prepaid cards purchased at retail stores, rechargeable credit cards, and bank-issued check cards. As a note, some Residents might find that a prepaid debit card will work once for a one-time purchase, such as Linden dollars, but fails to work after that. This is generally related to limitations in how many prepaid cards are authorized for transactions, so a prepaid card might stop working even if there are funds available.
  11. There's Skrill, if that's available in your area (I really don't know any of the specific about Skrill, other than it sounds like a PayPal type service). Other than that, there's using a credit card. You can see all the accepted payment types on the Billing Knowledge Base article in the "Accepted Currencies and Payment Methods" section.
  12. I would be very upset if LL released any information about where I lived that was more specific than what I have in my profile.
  13. No, there is not any way to specifically meet people that are in the same RL area. LL does not release that type of information, so the only way to know the location someone else lives is to ask them or look on their profile to see if they have listed their RL location there. Periodically, there are threads started here in the forums by someone looking for others that might live in the same country. I don't know how successful those types of threads are, in terms of people who respond to them actually hanging out together in-world.
  14. I would definitely try a new HDMI cable. Hopefully it's something as simple as a bad cable.
  15. With mesh heads, I've found that it's easier to start with the sample shape that usually come with a mesh head. I first make note of all the body, torso and leg slider values for my regular shape. Then I put on the sample shape for that mesh head (after making a copy of it) and work with the head (and related sliders) to get everything adjusted as I like. Then if I can get the head part satisfactory, I will update the body, torso and leg sliders to the values I had noted from my original shape.
  16. I wonder if this email is something that they recently started. This year was the first time that I received one on my rez day (which was in May).
  17. To the OP: The only accurate way to measure the height of your avatar, that I am aware of, is to create a prim that extends from the bottom of your flat feet to the top of your head, and then use the edit tools to see how tall the prim is. I think you will find that the height shown by Firestorm's appearance editor will be closest to the prim height. As explained in several of the posts above, the formula used in LL's viewer to determine height in the appearance editor is not measuring how you would expect it to measure (it's not measuring from sole of feet to top of head). So if you really want to make sure that your avatar is a specific height, then create a prim of that height and adjust your shape until your body is the same height as the prim. As far as size of furniture, houses, and so forth, or how animations are set up, I would imagine that most creators use their own avatars for determining the scale, or use what they think will fit the majority of their customer base. There is no "standard" height in SL. I doubt that the fact that one viewer's appearance editor reports one height and a different viewer reports a different height for the same avatar shape is going to have any affect on the scale/size a creator chooses to use in their building. I think animations are even more problematic, because I imagine that they depend not just on overall height, but on other shape factors - length of legs, arms, shoulder width, and other similar shape settings which are all customizable by the individiual avatar. I would suggest that you find creators that create items that are closest to what you would expect for your size and use the 'adjust' feature that most items that you can sit on today have, to adjust the sit position for your avatar. Same with poses/dances/other animations - search out the ones that work best for your own shape.

  19. I was a bit irritated earlier today, also, when I unpacked a pack of BOM lipstick and noticed there was not a color key image. Additionally, each numbered color had 4 'fits' labeled A, B, C and X without any explanation I could see of which fit might be targeted to which mesh head.
  20. You should receive the L$3000 sign-up bonus after 45 consecutive days of being a premium plus member.
  21. Peeve: Creators who include an image of their store logo in the sales box, but do not include an image of the product (especially when it is a clothing item).
  22. Were you logged in already when you upgraded? and if you were, did you relog after upgrading? You will get an email from LL describing the premium plus benefits, and that email will have the phone support number.
  23. I wasn't aware either that there was an overall limit for the number of items in inventory. Mainly we just hear about how having a 'flat' inventory (too many items at one level without using folders and sub-folders) can cause issues (especially login issues) if there are too many items.
  24. Glad it worked! The contribution amount on the group's land tab is always manually entered - not everyone wants to donate all of their tier to one group. The bonus is based off the total donated to the group, so basically it allows you to have 10% more sqm than the top sqm allowed for your tier level in the situation you've donated all of your tier - for example, having 2240 sqm and only paying the tier level for 2048. A little extra land, a few additional LI available, is always nice
